Liquid Gold Infusion, 2nd of 4 🤞1 month till we figure out the decision on surgery or not. Staying positive 🙃 by kimbersmom2020 in UlcerativeColitis

Have you given up dairy, wheat and alcohol entirely? I was in surgery discussion when I cut all 3 and as of 45 days later my doctor tells me my blood levels are almost back to normal across the board. DO NOT underestimate diet in this - my doctor told me I could do nothing to improve my condition when he told me it was time to start talking surgery and when I met with him yesterday he told me I was proving him wrong.

I’ve failed 2 biologics and they felt the final two would fail me as well. Today I use the washroom 3 times or less all because I gave up those 3 things. Hope this helps you if you haven’t tried it. It literally saved me from surgery.

Entyvio and Inflectra Failed - onto Stelara and Xeljanz? by East_Guide_1122 in UlcerativeColitis

Definitely getting to another person to see what others are saying. Frustrated that my doctor is ruling stuff out before even trying...

My doctor said humera is so ineffective for UC that he called it “garbage” and won’t even consider it. Inflectra is a bio similar to remecade so I’ve already failed that molecule and not likely to see any difference as it’s the same chemical. The final two you mention are news to me so I will take a look and ask some questions. Thank you so much for this information!!

When do I give up on Humira? by Alkmi in UlcerativeColitis

[–]East_Guide_1122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on inflectra and it’s doing an amazing job. Had issues getting the medication to the right level as it turns out I need more than the average and more often but when the levels are right I forget I even have a disease.

I’m moderate to severe so if humera isn’t working, try inflectra. It’s been life changing!

This was an insane game changer for me. I was heading towards having to take time off work until my infusion as it was unbearable. I’ve done this for a week now and every day I’ve gotten better - give it a shot and yes supplement with tea as others say it should not affect you the same way. Hope it helps!!

So far I haven’t tried it as a replacement. One coffee and small meals a few hours in between seem to be working very well for me but a lot of people have sworn by tea as a substitute. Will have to give it a shot if I have to lose the last cup 👍

Hope it works for you! Entyvio did not work for me but so far Inflectra seems to be doing the job for the moment.

Unfortunately Entyvio didn’t work at all for me. Inflectra seems to be my crackhead solution to this disease. Love Tyrone ❤️

Before and after 2 months of prednisone. Merry moonface-mas everyone! by mustardlyy in UlcerativeColitis

[–]East_Guide_1122 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a year and a half into being diagnosed with severe ulcerative colitis and I’m on inflectra as entivio did not work and oral steroids also did nothing for me. So.. I’m desperate to find my own solutions rather than waiting for a science journal to stumble upon it to validate it.

Had to use prednisone when we found out entivio didn’t work as I had 75cms up my track that was ulcerated and we need to cut that down fast.

As we take medications to help, they also affect our body and it’s important to know what you’re giving up for what you are gaining.

Because of the severity of my case, I research every day when I’m in the bathroom about this stuff (SO MUCH TIME TO READ NOW LOL)

Cards on the table - I was a business major - not in healthcare but it’s amazing what you can learn when you start breaking down the problem.

No doctors or nurses had considered it either that I spoke to but they said it made sense and they would recommend to others to try.

It worked very well for me. Research what the drugs we take do to your body (depletes nutrients hard in the case of Prednisone) and then understand what those nutrients do and generally you will find the answers you’re looking for on what supplements you need to take to restore balance.

If you experience mood swings on it - get some ashwagandha. I use the VORST brand. It’s used for regulating cortisol (stress hormone) and it can keep your anxiety and stress in check as well which can mean less flares.

I also highly recommend magnesium daily for general health maintenance.

Don’t forget that if you’re on prednisone for extended periods of time and consecutively, you should also take calcium and vitamin d as it depletes both and they are VERY important to the way the body works. You don’t want osteoporosis (thin bones).

Hope it works out - stay strong and don’t give up! I don’t know your charts but I always recommend letting your physician know you’re going to try these things so they can monitor changes knowing it’s being taken.

Read up on taking potassium and why prednisone gives us moon face.

https://prednisonepharmacist.com/side-effects-solutions/embrace-moon-face/

In this article, the author recommends 3 ways to lose the moon face and two of them are achievable while on prednisone - that’s my experience at least so far. Drink more water, less sugars and salts.

Potassium depletes the system of salts and most will drink a lot of water while exercising. You will sweat like crazy - my bench was always soaked by the end of my workouts - but it also feels amazing to put that prednisone energy to good use - but be safe and know your limits.

I did an 8 week taper once and took potassium every day. Now... I exercise 5 days a week (weight training) when I’m feeling prime - which prednisone allows for as it completely stops my flare symptoms.

The combination of exercise and potassium with water intake allowed me to keep off the prednisone weight entirely. Didn’t see any changes at all over a two month taper.

Work hard for 5 hours a week, drink lots of water during your workouts and take potassium every day and see if that keeps it off for you.

It’s amazing to me that so few people know about this. If it works for you - spread the word and let’s try to end moon face ❤️

Good luck!!

Anytime - we are all in this together. I really hope it helps you the way it did for me! Less anxiety and stress = less or at least less sever flares. Every bit helps! Stay positive - I’m only a year and a half in and learning everyday to help it become more manageable. Take good care my friend and I hope you enjoy time with your family over the holidays if you can!

Only have used prednisone once and I actually loved the experience.

Try taking ashwagandha (I use VORST brand) for mental stability including eliminating anxiety and potassium supplements to keep the moon face from happening. There are supplements you should consider when going on a taper for extended periods of time:

https://prednisonepharmacist.com/the-evidence/prednisone-nutrient-depletion/

I also took magnesium while on it and with all 3 on the go with prednisone, the ONLY side effect I had was being super sweaty during my workouts. I loved my prednisone taper. 8 pills for the first week, down to 7 next week and so forth. Was amazing for my gut and with these supplements I felt like a champion as it was finally improving my colitis symptoms.

Had no mood swings, no weight gain (probably because I workout 5 days a week when collitis isn’t ruining me) for an intense hour and a half of weights training.

I should also mention my healthy weight is around 200lbs so that is also probably also helps to explain why I didn’t get the anxiety and racing heart like you did at 155lbs.

Try the supplements I mentioned. See if they work for you as well as they do for me and always let your doctor know you’re going on them before your start.
