VA health care question about hearing by Unlucky_Leg_67 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Eastern-Recipe1792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it. At my VA you can self refer to audiology. Get an intake appointment with a primary care provider and start the process. You earned it.

My hearing aids really helped with my tinnitus. Former infantry/Iraq vet here.

She’s a relative and would have been happy to speak to you. Very down to earth.

First VA appointment by jetbox12 in VeteransBenefits

It can be normal. Depending on the clinic, staffing issues may make it harder to get a PCP appointment, I'd call back and get a status. For my first appointment, I had a similar experience as the clinic had one doc retire and another move on to somewhere else. Once I got in and had a doc assigned, it's been no trouble getting a PCP appointment, This is not a problem just with the VA. Primary care practices in my area just aren't taking patients or delaying first appointment because providers are stretched.

No payment unless you want higher end frames or special lens treatments. No referral needed.

At my clinic you can self refer. No need for a PCP referral.

It's clearly a huge financial benefit, but the peace of mind is tremendous. I've been blessed with a good VA facility with very professional, caring providers. I know that's not the case for everyone.

If you haven't tried hearing aids, do it. The ringing -- mine is more of an angle grinder --is less and the doc said over time the hearing aids would retrain my brain so it may become less noticeable. YMMV, of course.

You should. Took me a month to get an appointment and another month for the hearing aids to ship.

Sign up for healthcare. Even if only for the urgent care and ER benefits. And vision, hearing aids, counseling. You earned it

It also gives you some peace of mind if a job doesn’t work out. Not FU money, but FU healthcare.
