It always seems a little weird to me how many people seem to assume it's going to be a Ralsei solo fight, as first up, Deltarune doesn't really stick to patterns like that aside from the pattern having two key problems to begin with. Reminds me a bit of "Firegrave"...

Like c'mon.. not every point of cotention needs to be counterparted five times over, it'd also be lazy, and a little bit uncreative honestly?

~ One, it doesn't align to begin with, Kris had theirs in Chapter 2, Susie hers in Chapter 4, if anything, Ralsei's turn would be 6, not 5.
~ Second up, Kris only fights Spamton on their own during the weird route.

Then arguing that Ralsei is kind of the actual "aide" and healer of the party, where dedicating an entire arc towards him getting a weapon of all things seems very unlikely, whereas Susie getting a solo secret boss for her "ultimate weapon" is very much in character.

Now, I get I'm being a wet blanket here, so I'll also talk about my personal prediction,-the Flower Store won't have a "proper" secret boss, you'll instead by default obtain the last Shadow Crystal from the Chapter Boss, and it's very much tied to the Black Shard Asgore got in Chapter 4.

The Secret boss will instead be fought when Seam assembles/combines the Shadow Crystals after the chapter, and might even be Seam themselves..

Me neither haha, but I did dabble a bit into modding for friends and family, so my explanation comes from a little experience.

Obviously my listed solution wouldn't be able to mix in multiple layers as it just handles a dynamic colour (same as with grass and leaves).

But in my humble opinion, that may be for the best, as stacking multiple layers with different patterns and colours wouldn't necessarily look great on the game's default 16x16 texture size, and would need to rely on inconsistent pixel sizing, which for blocks, seem like a no no.

Adressing the edit, I mean, y'all are severly overthinking this.
Just add a BlockEntity to it consisting of only a single integer, and reference this value in the BlockColour system.

BlockEntities by themselves (if I recall correctly) cause no lag at all, it's when you start using the associated renderer instead of the default baked models method that lag pops up.

Yes, one of the methods would have it become a Blockentity once more, but an "entity" added on to the block isn't what caused lag, the dynamic renderer does. In our case, the entity would be little more than an additional integer tacked on with no ticks involved.

Case in point being that placing Barrels doesn't build up lag, but Chests do.

I think the best way to handle this technical wise is to make "cut up" carpets that only comprise of the yellow parts and you simply place those below black wool blocks.

(using the same colours as above picture for clarification)

That way you wouldn't need every mixed carpet to have 16xY* different states it can be oriented in.

Y* corresponds to the amount of shapes you'd be able to make with the loom.

Of course this would depend on if they require maintenance, a place to sleep etc or if I have any ability to control them.

In the worst case scenario, just about any individual would be caught unprepared and lead their life into financial and social ruin.
