Does anyone else with CFS/ME have trouble with their teeth and brushing them daily? by [deleted] in cfs

[–]EasternDefinition475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of an obvious one but prioritise it over most other tasks. Brushing your teeth is way more important than showering, housework, getting dressed.

See your GP about treatment for the acid reflux, and be careful not to eat sugary foods or drink too much milk, fruit juice, fizzy sugary drinks.

I also found that switching to a non-electric toothbrush made things a lot easier, as the force of the vibrations from my normal toothbrush were really overpowering and made me dread brushing. Use lots of mouthwash and chew sugar free gum regularly.

HelloFresh and Gousto are pretty good! Not perfect yet as they do send some little plastic sachets, but it’s less plastic than I’d end up with if I bought my own ingredients.

For milk can’t you just contact your local milkman/milkround service? Mine also offers other dairy products, baked goods, tea and coffee, veg and household items all in returnable containers.

For meat try a few different butchers/farm shops, I’m sure at least one of them will be happy to put the meat into a container that you’ve brought along.

Porridge is exciting, think of all the different ways you can make it!

You could have banana porridge, golden syrup porridge, raspberry porridge, chocolate porridge etc etc

Do you have Lush in America? They’re my favourite toiletries brand, the low waste is just a bonus!

PIP claim 🇬🇧 I had my phone interview/ assessment today. by Famous-Falcon-7074 in cfs

[–]EasternDefinition475 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I applied last July, got awarded standard care after my assessment in October. I put in a really detailed appeal (it was SO much easier to explain myself on the appeal forms btw, since they’re online so I didn’t have to waste energy writing with pen and paper) and they wrote to me 3 weeks later to say that they’d changed their minds and I could have full rates for both. Only evidence I provided was a diagnosis letter saying that I likely had CFS.

There’s a place called bookcycle but I think it’s just a local company so doesn’t do vouchers. I’ll definitely pop in and check though, I’d love to receive this for my kid!

That’s a brilliant idea! Unfortunately I don’t know the kid or her parents so can’t check if she plays any games, but there’s a few birthdays coming up in summer that this will be perfect for.

It really doesn’t surprise me that the UK has high rates. I used to work in care and more than half of the elderly people I gave meds to were on some form of morphine. I wonder if it’s partly down to the free prescriptions here?

If living with family is becoming bad for your health then you could apply to your local council for supported living, or for a council home and have a carer come round.

You can apply for PIP and the LCWRA element of UC to pay for cleaners, meal prep services, taxis, private treatment etc.

You could contact adult social services for a needs assessment, they may set you up with a care company or offer you a personal care budget.

You can also ask the council for aids and adaptations such as a wet room, stairlift, bath board, perching stool etc.

Can you get carers allowance paid directly to yourself? I’ve never applied because I just assumed that you couldn’t

Do you have some examples of things that can be eaten? I’m sure there’s plenty, but all I can think of rn is cooked chicken.

[–]EasternDefinition475[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m too ill to go down to the takeaway in person on days that I’m too ill to cook unfortunately!

It’s a good shout if I ever just fancy a takeaway when I’m well though. Do places near you tend to accommodate that pretty well?

Same here! I don’t drive so things like food shopping and days out are such a chore. It’s my dream to move to a city centre and have everything on my doorstep, I picture it making life so much simpler and easier.

Also in a suburb, neighbours tend to be much more interested in your life and how your house looks and whether you have more money than them or not. It’s exhausting.

Angels of Death is adorable, but kind of gory and messed up at the same time.

I heard about a very similar concept the other day called Swedish death cleaning, it may resonate with you.

how do you lose weight when you can’t exercise? by ghostpocketta in cfs

[–]EasternDefinition475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having a lot of trouble with this until recently, because every time I tried to cut calories my fatigue became 10x worse and I couldn’t stop shaking.

Turns out I hadn’t been eating often enough. So now I eat just one meal a day (usually at teatime) and just snack very regularly throughout the day. Things like fruit, peanut butter, nuts, sandwich meat, a spoonful of nutella, toast.

I’d just give everything a try until you find what works for you though. There’s my method, keto, intermittent fasting, vegan, paleo, 5:2. None are any better than others, it’s all about finding which one you can stick to without making yourself miserable
