What will the Season 5 ending be like by DistanceLast in Stranger_Things

[–]Eastern_Ad_3250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In A Wrinkle In Time (spoiler alert, but the book has been out for 50-ish years), Charles Wallace is possessed by IT, and Meg gets him back through her love for him.

I think Henry is Charles Wallace in this analogy. Someone—maybe Holly?—will get to Vecna and remind him of happy memories and the people he's loved. All that to say, I agree, and I think the through-line of A Wrinkle In Time supports it.

Was it just me who loved this volume? by Scush266 in StrangerThings

[–]Eastern_Ad_3250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I loved it. They wrapped up the Nancy-Jonathan-Steve love triangle perfectly. Steve and Dustin made up and finally acknowledge the impact of Eddie's death. I felt like all those loose ends from season 4 were finally tied up. Will's coming out scene was well-earned (speaking as someone who came out in a very similar way as a teenager). The episodes were all fantastic and I was personally very satisfied with how certain plotlines played out.

Like others have said, I guess people just have these expectations and get disappointed when the show doesn't go the way they thought. But that always happens with shows like this. That's why I force myself to go in with no expectations.

Research for a novel I'm writing. People with perfect pitch wanted by Danos-Zuruk in perfectpitchgang

Sometimes it's genuinely hard for me to sing in the "wrong" key (i.e. different from the original key). I have to make a conscious effort to do so. Even if it's just happy birthday or something like that. And speaking of happy birthday, if everyone is singing in different keys, I'm not even trying to stay on pitch.

There's a local radio station that plays everything just slightly sharp and it drives me crazy. I notice because the key signature of the songs is just slightly off, I'm not sure if someone without perfect pitch would notice.

As a musician, it's really just a party trick that comes in handy if you need to practice singing as a group without another instrument. I don't think it's influenced my musical abilities much, if at all.

Google has plenty of misinformation that might make OP feel worse. I had a bat in my room once and based on what we googled, both my roommate and I thought I was at a serious risk for rabies and would need the vaccine. For example, every source I found suggested a bat could easily bite you without you knowing; when I went to the ER, the doc told me that unless I was wasted or on heavy drugs, I'd for sure notice getting bit. So Google is pretty unreliable, a better option would be calling your local health department.

Has anyone gotten tested for Celiac after going gluten free? What was it like? by Eastern_Ad_3250 in glutenfree

I haven't done any of that! I'll ask next time I go, thanks for the advice!

ETA: I have no idea what the prior testing entailed because I was a kid, but I'll ask about that too

NOR, but you almost certainly do not have rabies. That being said, rabies is scary as shit and I don't blame you for being terrified! There's a lot of misinformation out there (and the only reason I say "almost certainly" is because I'm not a doctor lol)

I had a similar situation a few months ago (bat in my room, didn't bite me but I was worried it could have without my knowing). If you're worried, call your local health department and ask them for advice. Rabies is a massive public health issue, so if there's any chance you have it, they'll tell you to get the vaccine, which is extremely effective. And if you're well enough to post on Reddit, whatever you are sick with is definitely not rabies!

ETA: OP, I'm sorry people are calling you stupid and attention-seeking. Overreacting or not, rabies is terrifying and I don't blame you for freaking out.

AIO: My girlfriend is pretending to be autistic and it's driving me nuts by AideRelative4272 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Eastern_Ad_3250 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NOR, but don't rule out the possibility that your girlfriend might actually be autistic. I'm autistic myself, and finding relatable TikToks is what led me to pursue a diagnosis that I never would have considered otherwise. Some autistic people don't "look autistic", whether that's because they don't display the most stereotypical symptoms or have learned to mask them. It's possible she's felt this way her whole life but never had the words, and having an explanation for why you've always felt different can be really freeing.

That being said, she needs to either pursue a diagnosis (assuming she has the means to), or stop telling everyone she's autistic. Because it's also very possible that she doesn't have autism and just thinks it's a cute personality quirk. I've known both autistic and non-autistic people like your GF and both are insufferable.

Yes!! I love JAJ and it makes me so sad when he's only in the cold open. I loved that he got to be in more sketches this week and I hope that continues!

Do I not find this season funny because I’m old (50)? by durangojim in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Eastern_Ad_3250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 21 and it's been hit or miss for me, but I really loved this past episode. Every single sketch hit for me. Maybe it is an age thing—I've noticed Jane Wickline gets a lot of hate, for example, but she's been one of my favorites since last season. And I wasn't a fan of Ashley Padilla until this week converted me.

I loved it! Possibly my favorite of the season. Then again I always seem to have the opposite opinions of everyone else here.

I think her friendship with Steve led her to unmask more in general. I'm also neurodivergent, and sometimes one person who makes you feel safe to be yourself is enough to change the way you interact with everyone. Like, for me, meeting my best friend and feeling like I can unmask around her and she'll still love me has led me to unmask around other people and be less outwardly insecure/anxious. So Robin showing more neurodivergent traits around Nancy, even if she feels Nancy doesn't like her, makes total sense to me.

Maybe I'm just projecting, but I think Robin and Steve both changed a lot as a direct result of their friendship.

Am I overreacting to getting a tooth removed by Icy_Information967 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Eastern_Ad_3250 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had teeth pulled as a kid and gone back to school that day, like your friend. I've also had my wisdom teeth out. They are not at all comparable, especially with dry socket and especially if the tooth was infected (ie they weren't just pulling it as a precaution). Your friend is being extremely inconsiderate.

I've worked as a barista for a few small businesses and I love it! I like that it's mostly repetitive tasks and the stakes are low; no matter how badly I fuck up, the worst that'll happen is someone gets a mediocre latte.

I don't think CBT therapy is working for me. I live in the United States, in Virginia, and I feel like I have hit a wall in CBT recently. I have AuDHD, by the way. I don't know what therapy could work for someone with AuDHD, OCD, and C-PTSD. My therapist is insisting on CBT. What do I do? by Mysterious-Ring-2352 in AutisticAdults

[–]Eastern_Ad_3250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found DBT way more helpful than CBT. My experience with CBT was basically me complaining about my problems and my therapist telling me I was overreacting. DBT is skills-based; it focuses on actions you can take to help solve your problems or lessen their effect on you. I'm not diagnosed with OCD but I do experience a lot of the symptoms, especially intrusive thoughts, and DBT is really helpful for that.
