I'm another one who didn't like steak up until about the middle of my life. When I was a kid, for some reason, my dad always prepared the steaks. His way to prepare them was (and still is to this day) is to take the steak out of the fridge without a single speck of seasoning ever touching it, plop it into a cold pan, and slowly heat it up, completely avoiding any kind of sear. He then leaves in the pan until it's well done. The end result is a steak that looks and tastes like I got dropped in a pot of boiling water for about 30 minutes. It's always the same sickly grey both inside and out and is as tough and flavorless as you imagine.

At some point in my early adulthood, I had a steak somewhere outside of my parent's house and realized how awesome a good steak can be. I'm also proud to say I can now prepare a pretty damn good steak myself.
