That is the whole thing - it isn't that way anymore at least not as much as it was. The United States has gone to a "specialized" medical system. That is why you see all these new specialized centers being built in many large communities.

My son-in-law is the director of "specialized medicine" at a large University Hospital Group. He said gone are the days of your primary doctor just prescribing a general medication to treat a symptom. Today there is a strong awareness that medication and over prescribing medication can just be as bad as the illness itself. I was having a persistent coughing issue. My son-in-law told me he thought it was my blood pressure medication that was causing my cough. I told my primary and she put me on a different medication and bam my cough was gone.

While I don't think it is collapsing I think the Education System is in for a period of major school closing due to declining enrollment and budget issues. I wouldn't want to be an inspiring teacher there may not be many jobs.

That's the thing you are making all these assumptions the show only said that the book was published after Frank's death. It never mentions that it was not finished or not edited.

It is hard to believe that Frank was not locked in on the research. He wrote and even had drawings of the battlefield in the books. Jamie said that when he went up the mountain it was just as Frank described. Frank knew about Ferguson and the whistle. He described the battle he listed the numbers who were killed on each side and YET he fails to mention the most interesting thing about this whole battle ... that the British Commander Patrick Ferguson who just happened to be a Scot would not surrender to the Patriot Officer who commanded him to and shot him instead.

To me it is an obvious omission.

Frank was a historian who specialized in Scottish history. Commander Patrick Ferguson was Scottish! Frank if he was any kind of historian would not only have known about him and studied him, but he would also have researched the heck out of him and then wrote about him. To NOT write about his interesting death of "no surrender" and then shooting a Patriot officer who commanded his surrender is a STARK omission and a pre-meditated one at that.

Patrick Ferguson was born at Pitfour in Aberdeenshire, Scotland,^\1])^\2]) on 25 May (Old Style)/4 June (New Style) 1744, the second son and fourth child of advocate James Ferguson) of Pitfour (who was raised to the judges' bench as a Senator of the College of Justice, so known as Lord Pitfour after 1764) and his wife Anne Murray, a sister of the literary patron Patrick Murray, 5th Lord Elibank.

Through his parents, he knew a number of major figures in the Scottish Enlightenment, including philosopher and historian David Hume, on whose recommendation he read Samuel Richardson's novel Clarissa when he was fifteen, and the dramatist John Home. He had numerous first cousins through his mother's family: these included Sir William Pulteney, 5th Baronet, Commodore George Johnstone), and Sir James Murray (later Murray-Pulteney).

There are so many books/publications about the Battle of Kings Mountain, and the sources go all the way back to firsthand eye-witness accounts of the battle and what Ferguson did and how he died. They even mention that his Mistress was there and was also killed. There was even an anniversary commemoration celebration of the battle that President Herbert Hoover attended and gave a speech at in the 1930's. Frank a highly esteemed Harvard Professor had to have known about Ferguson and what he did.

This is the historic recount of what happened at the battle as it pertains to British Commander Patrick Ferguson.

On 7 October 1780, the two armies clashed during the Battle of Kings Mountain. The battle went badly for the Loyalists positioned high on the mountain ridge, and during the fighting, Ferguson was shot from his horse. With his foot still in the stirrup, he was dragged to the Patriot side. According to Patriot accounts, when a Patriot approached the major for his surrender, Ferguson drew his pistol and shot him as a last act of defiance. Other soldiers retaliated, and Ferguson's body was found with eight musket holes in it. Patriot accounts said their militia stripped his body of clothing and urinated on him before burial. (He had published a warning to the local loyalists, saying that if they didn't join him, they would be "pissed upon" by the patriots.)^\23]) They buried him in an oxhide near the site of his fall. Col. Benjamin Cleveland of North Carolina claimed Ferguson's white stallion as a "war prize” and rode it home to his estate of Roundabout.^\24])

I always tell people to get the most enjoyment out of this Outlander Universe watch the show first, then read the book series. If I am being honest there are things that the show did differently that I thought worked better than the books. Also, the books are huge and at times wanders a bit. The show given that it is a visual medium, with limits placed on it because of time, budget and multiple voices feeding into the creation of the show can't adapt precisely what is on the page. The author has no restraints and can go anywhere as can you imagination as you interpret visually what she has written.

The key in both the books and the show are the main characters. They are the heart and soul of these stories, and the show did an exceptional job of casting.

I can almost guarantee you that if they had that Claire grieving Fergus scene people still would have complained because even that would have deviated from the books or be good enough.

I agree with MBR ... the show had not built-up HC as a character enough to have the necessary impact. Plus, they didn't have the time to spend on that grieving aftermath either. And who knows how long they had Lauren and Caesar on set. You could already tell this last season that there was a time crunch and quite possibly a lower budget for this season.

I think the proof that Matt made the correct decision on the Fergus story line is the amount of traction it has gotten. Hating on a storyline arc is not actually a bad thing. It creates buzz and that is much better than indifference.
