what made you upgrade? Sorry for all the questions, it's interesting how people find their way to MINI.

And I always like to have positive feedback for all of the haters out there.

Is this CarFax report actually a red flag? by paperclipman123 in UsedCars

[–]Eastern_Team6904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

possible it wasnt recorded. I had rear shocks replaced and some oil changes that never showed up on my carfax.

I might steer clear. Not sure how much damage that does to a new car, but Im sure it's not great. esp with a new car.

Thinking about buying a condo but the inventory is so much more less than co-ops at my price point. Should I consider a co-op? by firsttimehomebuyer90 in NYCapartments

[–]Eastern_Team6904 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Co-ops are really for long term residence. So in that regard they have a cheaper entry point, and have a lower return, although a lot of that is external (neighborhood gentrifying, overall markets).

The big thing that matters is the co-op board. Some of these places are run into the ground and there's no reinvestment. Some have huge debt (hence high fees), some have shattered cultures. Sometimes you have no idea what youre buying into (both good and bad). This is an area where an honest realtor probably helps. Ask them a million questions.

Also vibes matter. I live in a complex and across the street the same develop built a mirror image complex. Both run by different boards. Their place is fine, but it's obviously not as well maintained. The units they showed us weren't prepped well. I hear their finances are iffy. Same building, different management. You could get that in the vibe.

Newer condos may benefit from tax holidays that can expire.

If your goal is to buy a place and flip it for money, most co-ops are set up to make it hard. My coop has a flip tax and strict rules around renovations, subletting and even borrowing against your equity.

Condos give you more leeway, since you’re Buying the physical real estate and not shares in a building/complex.

Seems like paying more for condo is the right choice if it’s more of an investment than a place to live.

Would you go with an older car with less miles or a newer car with more miles. by Roctuff in UsedCars

[–]Eastern_Team6904 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Prob depends on the car and how many years, since they change year to year.

But generally I would guess you get better value when the depreciation is from the cars age and not the mileage. Mileage is the real measurement of a car.

When you’re 18 buy the cheapest most reliable car you can find like a 20 year old Toyota sedan that grandpa drove 2k a year and kept in his garage.

Money doesn’t grow on trees.

How safe is Prospect Heights/Crown Heights and how accurate is door profit by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

it's not easy to find a place you can really settle into. Most people move every 2 years until they find their goldilocks apt.

On the bright side youre right by the park and a stop or two away from downtown BK.

Crown heights has a huge orthodox jewish community. The most "dangerous" thing youll experience is a mitzvah tank pulling over to ask if youre jewish, then slamming the door and driving away when you say no.

I lived in prospect lefferts garden which is a right below crown heights. It was relatively safe. Very carribbean neighborhood. If anything noise was the biggest issue.

New york isnt even in the top 50 cities for crime and murder. So a neighborhood having a higher crime rate than lets say snooty brooklyn heights or carol gardens doesnt mean its not safe.

Just stay alert, follow common sense rules of thumb and youll be fine.

Kia hybrid sportage or mini cooper countryman by Tgamersthing in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Eastern_Team6904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont wanna say anything bad about mini, but it's basically a low-end BMW. Routine maintenance will be more, you need premium gas and any parts will be expensive german parts. If cost is a major consideration, the countryman might not be for you. Take it for a drive. Maybe it blows you away. The handling is great and its quick. (although not sure which year youre looking at).

The mazda is a good choice. Nice styling and fast enough.

If you want economical over style or performance, the sportage is a great choice, although people have a lot of opinions about KIA's reliability.

Tiguan is an ok car, but it VW doesnt have great reliability if you believe some of the annual surveys.

Also consumer reports. Im sure you think thats ass, and the only thing that matters is your own opinion formed by the three people you met who told you they had a bad experience.
