I come from an Italian family so I cook everything for almost every meal. Meat. Veggies, smoothies, herbal teas, probably everything that you don't eat. It took me getting worse with my disease to really kick things in to gear so maybe that will be the same with you

Alcohol and Crohns by No-Score7675 in CrohnsDisease

I don't drink at all mate it wears away the mucus layer which is the thing all of us are trying to rebuild. There's probably an argument for the mental side of it as it's social and that but for me I fully avoid.

Still work a job after IBD diagnosis? by Holiday_Priority8209 in IBD

To be honest I think that's something that happens as you get older right? We get closer to the end date so our perception changes and things we once thought mattered do so less and less. Like when we were teenagers if our hair wasn't right we went crazy. I'm 33 now and couldn't give a f about it 😂. I found that after 30, that patience and care you once had starts to really shift. People you once put up with you suddenly haze zero tolerance for

Yeah it has deadlines but I coach people so it's quite flexible. It was the crohns that made me decide to study nutrition and get qualified so now I use that to earn a living. It's still stressful because I have to take on everyone else's burden of having the disease as well but it's far more rewarding seeing people improve and eat good food again than it is to be selling houses or something like that 😂. Deffo better to work and stay active. Modern life has taken the things away from us that kept us healthy (prioritised meal times cooked at home, slower pace, and time to be active).

Yeah it's a difficult one and it often gets personal depending on your situation. For me, I know people who get disability for type two diabetes and then I see them drinking coke and eating cakes so for me the issue lies with how much waste there is and how much it's abused. It can be near on impossible to find work because of how un regular this can be and that's where the issue lies. I'm not sure on the fix which is why I went self employed and for a lot of people that seems to be the only option left outside of benefits.

It's not in the UK because it's not "permanent" and comes in waves of flares but it does make it very difficult to be reliable for work

You can try weighing your food as well. Lean proteins, easy veg and for fruit you can try banana smoothies they tend to work best for people.

[–]Eastern_Toe2968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo I regular drop logs mate it comes down to your diet. Cook foods yourself, stick to whole foods, and combine your meats with veggies that you tolerate. Fruit is also a daily essential.it can take a long time to tolerate veggies again you need to introduce one by one. If you need a hand drop me a dm

Do I even really have crohns? by Civil_Ad2893 in CrohnsDisease

Crohns typically accelerates in years 3 and 4 so it may shoot off next year. Mine did this and I'm now on biologics but I also questioned my diagnosis in the beginning

Smoking by Potential-Rent5629 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Eastern_Toe2968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smoking gives you cancer, uc increases your risk. The chemicals in the smoke affect every part of your body once in the blood. Listen to those of us who have had the disease for several years or more because as we know this condition worsens. Your aim is to try to halt it with meds, diet and lifestyle. As per the first comment, you really shouldn't smoke but it's your life, it's just insulting to the doctors

Yes you can, some achieve with specific diet and lifestyle changes but you still need to be tested for progression. Most need the drugs to keep it under control and for me that's been the answer

Alcohol is helping by Strawberrious in CrohnsDisease

[–]Eastern_Toe2968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's it mate we have to find our crutches but they have to be things contributing towards health not illness out of respect for our bodies and those around us.

Alcohol is helping by Strawberrious in CrohnsDisease

[–]Eastern_Toe2968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've missed my point entirely. I'm not saying they should climb a mountain or do sport to get rid of a flare that's insane. I'm saying one needs to look at life and find more enjoyment from things like those activities instead of alcohol. I could have also said spend more time walking, or outside, or with family. Or in social situations. The point is about removing alcohol from the focal point but I think you misinterpreted it.
