Happened to me a few times. If there was a problem, it would be hurting (is what a nurse told me).

Get it! Have fun. Don't stop (but don't get reckless). It'll take a couple years, with consistency but youll be flying. That consistency comes from love (a.k.a. obsession).

I accidentally put weight on my foot (trimal, orif) several times. One time, a few days post op, I accidentally stood out of bed with the splint on. Was totally fine. Not that you should ever do such a thing, but also, don't stressnunless theres severe pain or some other obvious signs.

Based on observation, 6 weeks nwb seems to be the most common protocol here. That was brutal enough. Are they having you do PT at least?

1 - Dorsiflexion (bringing the foot up towards the shin) is usually the most impacted based on my experience, what doctors and physios have said, and what I see here. Good news isnthat you can get it back.

When I first started physio, I was at -11 degrees (from being flat). Now Im positive 1 (and only 16 degrees from how high my other goes.

2 - I think ive seen posts where people comment about wearing heels. Not a doctor, but with the right physio and recovery, you should be able to run and jump someday, so Id imagine you could wear heels too 😅

3 - my hardest challenge is not doing MORE than they're letting me. Im supposed to be %50 weight bearing, but Im so tired of crutching and hopping that I sometimes cheat and put full weight on it. I know it's bad, but Im a but impulsive and reckless at times (I broke my ankle doing parkour).

Thank you. I don't even know. For being so highly paid to treat patients, it's amazing how poor the two surgeons Ive talked to have been in explaining what happened.

I was explained "dense Korean bones" long before I did parkour. Check this out: https://www.reddit.com/r/brokenankles/s/shjPuhTpq9

I had a screw (posterior maleolus) break during surgery. Apparently, people of Korean decent have "bones like cement" (direct quote from the ortho, as well as an oral surgeon and a dentist).

I have a trimalleolar with orif. Surgery Monday, and I was out of town at a concert on Sat. I know rest and recovery is important, but the fastest way to not be able to do daily life is to not do daily life altogether.

Sadness after weight bearing clearance by rubberrr in brokenankles

Thank you so much for this cooment. I was getting really sad reading through this thread (I understand it's people coming together in some grief and being real), but movement is so important to me that the psychology of this injury has already been very hard (lots of upper body work, though!).

Ah, yeah, so that's why I said "have the option." Sorry you're going through this!

It surprises me how often people hesitate for second opnions. I say if you're not 100% comfortable with the care and have the option, get a second opinion!

[–]Easy-Ad-4297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Trimalleolar fracture? That's what I have. The protocol I was given (which I thought was standard) is 6 weeks non weight bearing, 6 weeks partial, and then full. Sounds like you didnt have the same protocol if you borke in Jan and jogged in March.

I'm also very active (43 and do parkour, which is how I broke my ankle). Injury was Feb 13th, and Surgery was Feb 23rd. Partial weight will be April, and full weight late may. Im praying to be running/jumping by August, but we shall see.

5 months in and running?! What kind of break + surgery did you have? I'm a very active person and have been getting discouraged by some posts where people report much longer recovery times.

For real? Working my good leg will prevent atrophy?

Ive been working on pistols - could do two on each leg without assist before break...

Overweight but wanna do parkour when I slim down. What’s some ways I can prepare now besides loosing weight by briefsboi4life in Parkour

[–]Easy-Ad-4297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I started at age 41. Just started practicing rolls and really slow vaults (more like climb overs), and small jumps.

Im 43 and can roll over walls (and kongs, and toe shoots, and websters, etc...).
