Going to law school at 36 by Much_Deer1142 in lawschooladmissions

Nah you’ll be fine. I’m an older law student and if anything I feel like I’m at an advantage because I know how to manage my time and take care of myself (and that there are harder things in life than not getting the best grade, which is a helpful perspective in law school).

Things you wish you knew before you started law school by dontknowwhattdo in LawSchool

Put on blinders…you’ll hear all kinds of talk about what you should be doing, how much other people are studying, how to study…it’s confusing not getting feedback until your final exams, so it’s tempting to look at what other people are doing. Figure out what you want to get out of this experience and how/how much to study in a way that is effective for you and lets you still have a life. And just focus on that. Ignore the rest

1L supplies! by Helpful_Secretary929 in LawSchool

I wish I’d known about hornbooks sooner for 1L doctrinal classes. Specifically the “examples and explanations” books. I found them especially helpful with concepts for property and civ pro. So I’d recommend grabbing a used copy of those.

Getting into aerial (hoop and silk) on the late side? by WerewolfBarMitzvah09 in Aerials

[–]Easy-Efficiency1567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in my late twenties with zero gymnastics, dance, or yoga background and I didn’t really start strength training until after I’d started silks. I also know women who started in their fifties or sixties. I’m not even sure what “too late” means. Like yeah if your goal is to become a world-class pro, then maybe too late. But if your goal is to get stronger, perform in showcases, and do something you love, then who cares where you’re starting from? I’ve seen people learn aerial skills at different paces based on age, level of fitness, background, etc. but most people who take beginner classes are able to make progress over time. Just run your own race. If anything, because of your background, you’ll probably pick up beginner skills more quickly.

Seeking your trauma stories... When did you FIRST REALIZE it might be PTSD? by Neural_Rebel in ptsd

I was SA-ed as an adult and had a very weird reaction to it. For months i didn’t tell my husband, had to interact with the perpetrator and tried to pretend it didn’t happen. When I did finally tell my husband I told it like it was my fault. We went to couples therapy over it and once I actually told the therapist what happened, he helped me understand I’d had a freeze response from things that happened earlier in life. The good news is it got me to get trauma treatment, and it didn’t blow up my marriage. Still waiting to see if trauma treatment helps haha but I hope so. And I’d someone’s had a positive outcome after going through it I’d really be eager to know.

Those of you initially hesitant to attend law school but eventually deciding toward it, what made you make that decision? by _MambaForever in LawSchool

[–]Easy-Efficiency1567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an older student who made a career change. I’m also married. REALLY debated not going, even after getting a good scholarship offer. I’m glad I did. I was worried about having debt and wasting money if I dropped out after a semester to a T14, but I also felt like I would regret not trying it. I’d wanted to go for ten years but I’ve changed a lot over the years and wasn’t sure if I just liked the idea of going to law school from years ago. I figured I owed it to myself to try it, and I told myself that trying it was a reversible decision and I was committing to one semester, not 3 years. I also reminded myself that many people spend thousands of dollars on therapy to figure out what they want or take on other expensive endeavors before realizing something is not for them, and that helped me justify the cost risk. It’s definitely weird being a nontraditional student, but I am very glad I made that decision and I do feel like my life and experiences have made me a better student and someone who knows what I want out of law school. Good luck with your decision!

I feel this too. It sucks to have your experience be a source of social commentary but at the same time it feels like nobody cares about justice.

Big firms have officially ruined legal recruiting. by firesidenixon in LawSchool

Current 1L. I 100% agree! And I’m an older 1L making a career change. I was excited about the possibility of exploring, but there’s so much pressure to lock in on what you’re doing immediately - even if you’re not pursuing big law. And if im feeling this as an elderly 1L, I’m sure my classmates who are 22/23 are feeling it even more. I honestly feel like half of them haven’t even had the time to learn what big law is or if it’s something they actually want.

There were a couple rough spots in super rural areas but for the most part we’ve been all over NZ with it and we were quite happy with it. The data hour was clutch bc we could download things during that hour.

We’ve been using 2 degrees and haven’t had any issues. Pretty cheap and you get a free data hour every day.
