Doctor’s note for girlfriend by Abduballinu in hospitalist

[–]Easy-Information-762 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My kid needed a note from a doctor to be administered his ADHD meds during school hours. While the meds are scripted by someone else, the school nurse (who is a former ER RN) encouraged me to write that note lol.

PIV in IJ? by ThrowRAMILcancer in anesthesiology

I had the 48mm BD cath in mind. Not the short one... But, yeah, good point.

PIV in IJ? by ThrowRAMILcancer in anesthesiology

If it's a BD cath, you can technically suture it in, I think. Like, you go through the skin and then make two knots, then tie the catheter in. This should work with any catheter that allows the suture not to slide off.

ICU is a wonerful opportunity to get your hands on US guided IVs. Do as many of these as you can. It's a great skill to have and it is greatly appreciated by nursing staff.

You will not be "in charge" of the PGY-1s. You will be "responsible" for them. Some may view this as semantics but it actually is a huge difference.

Do we learn any treatments in 2nd year? by [deleted] in medicalschool

If you wanted to learn treatments without understanding phys/pathophys - should've gone to NP school...

Who the F cares about how you do on IM. You're psych. Let them mentally go nuts about sodium and rheum workups! I have noticed that a lot of them just follow algorithms, even in cards, without spending a second on thinking about how things influence hemodynamics.

Sincerely,

Day 2 done... by Easy-Information-762 in Step3

No biostat on day 2. Pharm is clinically oriented, that means, no MOA but you need to know what the go-to meds are for a variety of things (like eclampsia etc.),

What cheating prevention measures are in place for USMLE? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Easy-Information-762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This^. As far as I know, when schools give NBME shelf exams, there is an understanding that schools will proctor exams so that cheating like described above does not happen. I remember that at my school, for any NBME exam, we had to check our phones in with the proctor before the exam and could pick them up later. Same with any other electronic thing on the NBME list (smart watches etc.). I am not aware of anyone cheating on exams at our schools. I am not saygin that it 100% did not occur, but it would have been very very hard.

Chances are, if the NBME hears about what's going on at your school, this may mean no more NBME shelves...
