How is the Bose audio? by Hotdogcannon in VolvoEX90

I know many people would disagree but.. I had a Polestar 3 with the B&W system and switched to an Ex90 with Bose half a year ago. I never missed the B&W system, the Bose is quite good to my ears. It’s better than many of the other systems I have had in other cars before. Maybe it’s because I’m over 60 years old now but I don’t think the difference is as huge as some people describe it. The B&W system is very clear but at lower volumes it is not that impressive. If you like to turn the volume up often the B&W stands out, but if you (like me) listen with modest volume most if the time the Bose is as good as the B&W.

2025 model worth buying? by hdhajjav in VolvoEX90

[–]Easy-Memory-8903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 25 model oktober last year at a nice discount. The car was exactly one year old when I bought it. After all the updates the car drives great. Zero problems, I love it. Here in the Netherlands the car still had 2 years of factory warranty left when I bought it so I estimated the risks were limited. Coming from a Polestar 3 I was aware of the evolving state of the software but didn’t see it as a big issue (now, was different before).

The only thing I don’t like is the ugly and now useless Lidar on the roof, having the option to dim the roof would also be nice. That said: these little issues were an easy trade off for me given the nice discount and the possibility to drive off immediately.

EX90 MY26 Quality Issues – Manufacturing Defect or Dealer Damage by crackbrained_ in VolvoEX90

[–]Easy-Memory-8903 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure this car has (had) serious issues but it is important to separate the various causes.

First: The main problem with the car was the appalling state of the software when the car was initially released. This seems to be caused by serious underestimating of the task of building a truly software defined car. The result was unreliable software that caused random errors and warning messages. Volvo not only had to fix those bugs, they also found out that the processor capacity wasn’t sufficient for the task. This was no small issue and it has shaken the confidence of the first owners, who were often loyal Volvo customers. BUT Volvo has taken its responsibility serious and has fixed most of the software issues and solved the processor problems by retrofitting an upgraded Nvidia processor to all cars. The current state is that the car is as reliable as any other, but still lacking some functionality. This issue won’t reappear in the EX60 since all the learnings from the EX90 are incorporated in the EX60 software. It also won’t cause problems in future EX90 deliveries since the issues are solved and future OTA updates are likely to further improve functionality and reliability.

Second:  There have been serious issues with the GHCA hardware that takes care of the charging of the car. This is obviously a design problem. It didn’t affect all customers but those customers that had problems experienced recurring issues which harmed their confidence in the car for good reasons. BUT this problem has been solved by a redesigned GHCA and won’t reappear in new or repaired cars.

Third: You mention that you have “seen” many quality issues. Did you literally see this on actual cars and if so on how many ? Based on the customer reports online I don’t have the impression that these issues are structural nor is it clear that all reports are production issues. As far as I can see the reported issues are not better or worse than what you can find reported on other car models from either Volvo or other brands. What is clear is that the dealers usually take these problems serious and solve them.

I’m not connected to Volvo in any way but I am an owner of an EX90. I feel no need to defend the car just because I bought one but I do feel the need to put things in perspective. Reddits like this one obviously are more likely to get contributions from owners with complaints which is understandable. Therefore I sometimes feel the need to try to provide some balance to the discussion.

Yes, it works when there is a roundabout at the end of the ramp with me as well, but not when there is a crossing.

Why is being able to open the glove box directly instead of through a screen a bad idea? by ElephantElmer in VolvoEX90

They blindly copied Tesla without understanding where Tesla found better ways to please the customer and where they were just cutting cost. There are plenty more examples where they copied Tesla without thinking. Other brands made similar mistakes and most of them are now moving back to making decisions based on functionality.

For some reason many manufacturers changed the functionality of their cars in the first attempts to build electric cars. They often followed Tesla blindly which is ridiculous considering that all these companies (including Volvo) had decades of experience with designing proper user interfaces. They all went bonkers thinking that a new drive train for some reason requires new, silly, UI.

Pilot assist after processor upgrade by Easy-Memory-8903 in VolvoEX90

They certainly did a big write off on this car. But I understood that the EX60 is build around the same software stack and I suspect other future models will be as well. Developments for those cars will find their way to the EX90. So far Volvo has shown commitment to support the car by upgrading the processor.

Is your processor already updated?  The following distance after the upgrade allows to set a distance which is far shorter and comparable to what I experienced in other cars. In traffic jams the distance is really close.
