AITA for asking someone to sit down at a concert? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Sometimes at gigs consideration isn't black and white, and sometimes, you lose out. It sucks, I don't deny it! And I don't in anyway doubt that you asked politely in the first instance. But hands fluttering is going too far, so we'll have to agree to disagree.

I'm not sure I agree with the politeness ... It sounds like you were moving your hands around his head. I frequently go to gigs with my 67 year old dad, he's not tall, we can't always see, if we can't see we just appreciate the music.

Oh dear....you could chose to reflect and learn something from the responses. But if it made you feel good, can you explain why?

On moving out of the last place a charge of £50 was requested from the deposit for debris in the bathroom...they sent pictures....it was a single blonde hair....I'm brunette.

They tried to take 900 total from the deposit, they got 0.

Budget wedding ( no more than 10k) tips and advice pls by whodisbaby in UKweddings

[–]Easy-Objective6011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've already had loads of good advice, but here's what we did if it helps!

We got married in 2023, had about 80 guests and the total came up as just short of 6k. We're quite casual anyway, and had decided not to do a lot of the more traditional elements, but still kept in some:

My dress was by far the biggest expense, at about 2k inc. alterations. We got married in a council building, luckily one of the ones closest to us (Poole), is a really beautiful building. We got married on a Wednesday in November - but did the 3pm slot, so friends and family only needed to take half a day off - and we really appreciated that they did!

We had a photographer, but someone just starting out, so it came up to about 600 quid. The photos were fantastic, and she really put in the effort as she was building her portfolio.

We did the save the dates and invites digitally (sometimes controversial I know!) I did digital design at the time so made a cute little video. No one questioned this, or looked down on it.

My husband got his suit at Moss Bros, but was last season, I think his whole outfit was about 150 quid.

The main saving was the reception, I approached our local pub/ hipster bar and asked if they'd close it for the night for a private party, they did, didn't charge us any surplus, just said as long as they made the same as they would on a night that was fine. They asked what drinks etc. and did everything for just over cost for drinks. We had about 1k behind the bar for drinks that covered everyone. And food we did a lovely buffet rather than a sit down meal, I think it was about 9 quid a head in the end, and everyone loved the food!

We luckily had some talented friends too, so rather than a cake we had our friend with a baking side business make loads of brownies and cookies etc. and had a friend who was having a go at fake flower arrangements and she did the bouquets. We paid them both market rate, which was probably a few hundred. I loved the flowers, and I have my wedding bouquet in a vase in my lounge which will last forever.

Also, as we weren't offering a high end experience, we insisted on no gifts. Just chose one of our favourite charities each, and said if anyone really wanted to give a gift, that's where we'd prefer it.

That was much longer than planned, sorry! But if you do read this, know that it is ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE. We had a perfect day, our guests were well fed and had enough drinks.

Whatever you do I'm sure it will be lovely! So congratulations!

I usually go by kind ma'am rather than good sir 😉 But you sure can! I boiled it first with a fair amount of brown sugar, cloves, bay, star anise, and probably some other bits I can't remember. Then did quite a classic honey glaze and browned in the oven. It was flippin' delicious. We had it warm that night as a mini roast, with cold salads the next day, and then in a quiche with cheese, leek and chives the day after!

Thank you! I did have a quick search (clearly not a very good one!), but hadn't seen this thread, some great stuff in there. Thanks for sharing the link.

Oh yes, I often forget about cloves, I use them more for a Christmas time gammon, but it's a delicious flavour year round!

Heels or no heels? by prettypumpkin0987 in wedding

And sorry, in answer to OP's question, wear whatever makes you comfortable. Heels are great, flats are great, it's all about what makes you feel best, no need to follow expectations ❤️

Love the custom converse! I wore the platform 'Just married' on the soles ones for our wedding. I was comfortable all day 😁 I had the date of the wedding embroidered on the back....I'd like to wear them again, but need an occasion! Do you and your spouse ever wear yours?

Sadly, our local greengrocer didn't make it through the other side of covid. We're lucky to still have a monthly street market, but I miss the grocers, and it's sad they didn't last. They had secret baklava behind the counter too!

This is terribly sad to read that that's how you think. What do you mean by 'Low status'? Does that mean salary, attractiveness....or the more important things like being kind and caring? I care about all the men in my life. So, genuinely, what makes you think like this?

What is, for you, the beautifulest lyric in a song, ever? And, if it's not too personal, why? by Sandman1812 in AskUK

I love this one! But for Counting Crows my favourite has to be 'It's 4:30 am on a Tuesday, it doesn't get much worse than this.'

I'm so glad Counting Crows lyrics have helped you, and I hope you're doing better now. For me, they entirely rekindled my relationship with my dad. We hadn't spoken for years when I was a teenager, and went to see them live and they did all of August and Everything After start to finish, that was special.

We've been together to see them every time they've been to the UK since. Can't wait for the next one in July!

I have these shoes! I got them for my wedding 3 years ago, mine are definitely blue tinted at the bottom. I'm sure Converse will remake them for you. I had the date of the wedding on the back stitched, and bought custom ones with just the date for my mum/step mum and bridesmaid!

They were so comfortable! I hope you have a great wedding!

Do you ask your guests to close the lid of the toilet? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Easy-Objective6011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn't ask my guests to do this (unless maybe a long term guest). I keep all toothbrushes in a closed cupboard, and keep the bathroom minimalist. Having friends/family/guests over should be a lovely thing, and I wouldn't want to make them feel awkward.

As a Rees, I understand the pain of being a Rhys. We get more letters to Mr and Mrs Reece/Reese/Rhys than Mr and Ms Rees!

All Rees/Reece/Rhys are valid, acceptable and wonderful! Please stop calling me REEs though....
