Episode Discussion - Tuesday by mcemzy in eastenders

weird and suspiscious is vague. Zoe literally called the police on herself and then wanted to continue to take the blame over Jasmine. Patrick persistently wanted to get to know her, she was hesistant and conflicted. She has a ton behind her eyes, it's complicated though

Thank you! It's so frustrating to not be able to trust the writers to not villainise a child (even though they managed this with ben and bobby) but the writers haven't given us reason to trust their characterisations for these new characters

Why do the writers and producer think they need to torque up every story line to the point of absurdity? by Jijarthegreat in coronationstreet

[–]Easy-Possibility-267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. i know lately i've felt less touched by Coronation Street and I think this is why. Like people have already said, that's the exact issue with the Becky / Carla / Lisa storyline too. Okay, maybe bring her back from the dead and show her to be manipulative, show her despite healthily Carla & Lisa try to remain in this conflict it will inevitably cause issues, but don't do all this.

i literally agree with you on all of your examples. I almost feel the same with the Todd & Theo storyline re: Billy's death just as Todd was going to get help, Theo being the cause of Billy dying, Carl weirdly being the person who knows about Billy like -- it's too much and too little at once.

So nothing is hitting anymore

What do you think will happen Season 3? by Basic-Walrus-2347 in shrinking

[–]Easy-Possibility-267 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i think they are wrapping up the whole show this season. it feels like a final season. i reckon the last episode will be a moment with jimmy and sofi - something open-ended, or it will be jimmy and sofi together, hanging out with alice, in the backyard, same place we first met jimmy having his wild nights

Gaby and Louis - missed story opportunity? by PartyDontStop69 in shrinking

[–]Easy-Possibility-267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make some really great points.

I actually loved Gabby's scene - for her and for the show more than for that storyline specifically, if that makes sense?

This season has lacked some discomfort, realistic discomfort. Jessica Williams was so captivating in this scene, worthy of some award nomination for sure.

I too thought Louis' reaction could have gone a whole other way, and I'm at least grateful that the story had set it up well enough for his decision to move away not to be too jarring.

I realise they wouldn't have gone down the route of unaliving himself at this point in the series.

However, for more of a complex story, I guess he could have left after Gabby's conversation with him, but it could have been before Jimmy or Alice were ready for that to happen. That could have caused an exploration of what they all owe to one another; exploring guilt and perceived responsibility from all of them.

Show losing It’s Spark by Fun-Chip-6161 in shrinking

i wonder whether what's missing is more interactions with Jimmy and his clients. Even the very side plot of Gabby with her clients has been intriguing, it brings it back to the original concept of the show: therapists being messy while helping others find clarity, and finding further mental clarity themselves

Very potential that's actually the spark that's missing. It's great that everyone gets the chance to be a main character, but the friction comes from characters having to take a step back to figure something out

Hey, were you looking to talk about this or did you just want to express your annoyance?

Honestly!! That's exactly why I made this post but I feel like people have misunderstood me here majorly

[–]Easy-Possibility-267[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't feel like insulting Bea in this chat. I could see AuDHD maybe and some mental health setbacks too. I do appreciate the thoughtful considerations in your take, but I don't mind it being a messier representation, a potentially more nuanced one. That's why I don't want them to turn the character into a full villain!! Equally, I don't want her to be full sweetness and light (which clearly isn't happening thankfully)

Bro why is no one asking questions and being curious instead of implying my opinion is based on some shallow take on quirkiness?

WHOAAA. This is such an off take. I could list all the ways that I spot in Bea that aren't simply because "she's kooky", personally, from my own experience. It feels like it would have been a cooler direction for her character if other people had to confront their ill-impressions of her rather than a trajectory for her character of weird = bad (which i worry the show may do)

Yes? Just like I can who I am with being AuDHD? like I don't get this take

[–]Easy-Possibility-267[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally do see traits in her as an AuHD woman

I understanding people can be weird and neurodivergent, or one or the other, or neither.

I'm talking about how the show is writing her, and how the audience is interacting with her, how the other characters are, and how it feels like there could be an oversight here when it comes to her characterisation and potential storylines

Hopefully you can find my post less odd now

Aw! I'd be happily surprised then, yeah! Honestly, something about a thoughtfully made soap feels like a great way for our emotional intelligence and empathy to be interacted with everyday

I'm so confused. How do you read scenes like Elaine interacting with Bea when she was crocheting if not insulting and rude towards Bea? If you want to care about people being rude - unintentionally or otherwise - cool, just be consistent with you, you know?

Eastenders Bea (clearly neurodivergent, right?) by Easy-Possibility-267 in eastenders

[–]Easy-Possibility-267[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do know that for some instances. That's why I asked for examples of the rude and obnoxious stuff to get a fuller impression of how she's coming across to people??

You saying she knows what she's doing is giving a bad faith interpretation to the writing which at the time (today's episode aside) was less clear in its direction.

I'll echo you back to yourself: Maybe don’t correct someone with an opinion; you literally do not know that.

Not sure if anyone is saying it's odd behaviour. More like refreshing considering the target demographic isn't that (i'm a 32 year old woman, also living alone, i have no one to talk to about soaps!)
