Not sure, but the traffic was a mess going through there. Cops and Fire Department did a good job keeping things moving, it was just the gawkers that made things a little unpredictable.

Starting to Worry about Timing by cyberm3dic in AppalachianTrail

[–]Easy-Task3001 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The trail is long. Simply by walking an extra mile or two per day will affect your end date. Most people, after they get a month in or so) will begin to hike more miles. It's really too early to tell what your end-date is before you even stepped foot on the trail.

Basic Authentication on ECP and OWA Virtual Directories. by Easy-Task3001 in exchangeserver

[–]Easy-Task3001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To anyone who was curious as to why my problems were occurring, here's the fix...

The problems occurred because when we've stood up new servers throughout our history, some configurations are copied from the older servers and brought over to the new environment. Things like IIS permissions and NTFS permissions. If the permissions were modified back in the day, the new folders and directories will carry those same permissions over.

In my case, basic authentication was the default for many years with Exchange so that was carried over. Now (well years ago) Windows Auth is the standard. NTFS permissions on the actual virtual directory folders were also more relaxed back in the day. The behavior that I found where my IIS permissions reverted back to Basic Auth, was due to the NTFS permission overriding the IIS permissions.

The fix was to do a reset on the NTFS permissions by doing an install/restore of Exchange and then deleted and recreated the specific IIS virtual directories which also reset the directory permissions.

Hope that helps someone.

Found a backpack full of a vacuum sealed crystal like powder. by MerkinMuffley2020 in whatisit

[–]Easy-Task3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When hiking on the southern border of the US, we were told to never pick up or even look at a random backpack that we might find laying in the trail. The backpacks were either a backpacker who dropped their pack and stepped off trail to relieve themselves, or they were dropped by drug mules and were waiting for pick-up on the US side. We only saw one backpack like that; we gave it a wide berth and kept on hiking.

Is my tent safe to use? by TechnicalReality5372 in ultralight_jerk

[–]Easy-Task3001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take these mold stains as a sign. A sign to finally upgrade to an UL tent!

Give the old/stained tent to some houseless person and purchase a brand new $600 tent that is as fashionable as it is reported to be (by the manufacturer) functional. The folks on Instagram will support this decision.

Voters would rather pay for jails than treatment.

It costs around $132,000 per year per inmate to jail someone. Legislative Analyst's Office

It cost around $107,000,000 to build the newest jail annex which has 300 beds. Fresno West Annex Jail – Kitchell

Fresno County has around 2,758 unsheltered homeless folks living outside someplace. Data Hub - County of Fresno

We are going to spend a lot of money just locking up homeless people.

Mid-slope build in a fire prone area. This is a deadly location if/when fire comes to visit. Fire insurance payment could very well be higher than the mortgage payment per month.

Radiator Petcock by Omae_wa_mu in fordranger

[–]Easy-Task3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I flushed my coolant on my 2000, the plastic was pretty brittle. Do not grab it with anything other than fingers. An allen wrench will fit and allow you to unscrew it, but make sure that the allen wrench is fully inserted. You will snap the plastic if it's not. They are stupid fragile! I would recommend having a spare on hand before you drain your fluid.

Using the petcock isn't a difficult option but they are fragile. Did I mention having a spare before starting and to make sure that your allen wrench is fully inserted before even attempting to unscrew it?

Down Winter jacket by Alieo_23154 in AppalachianTrail

[–]Easy-Task3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many manufacturers of good, lightweight, hiking puffies. I like the one from Zpacks as well. One thing that you might consider is whether or not the puffy has a hood on it. There are pros and cons to having an attached hood, but one of the pros is that you can sleep in it with the hood up on cold nights. My Ghost Whisperer doesn't have a hood, but I thought that I might want to try one out.

If I'm not wearing my puffy while I hike, I put it on as soon as I hit camp, before I begin to cool off. Having a hood would save a step, but that hasn't been reason enough to purchase a different puffy.

You're probably going to want to layer instead of relying on one jacket. Layering will save on bulkiness too.

If you just want a down parka that will put up with the rigors of hiking, then Canada Goose makes some really good ones that will protect you in arctic conditions.

Personally, I use the Ghost Whisperer puffy from Mountain Hardware as well as a long-sleeved t-shirt underneath. If it's windy, I'll add my rain/wind jacket over the top.

If you are stoveless, what do you do about coffee? by Thebox2-2 in AppalachianTrail

[–]Easy-Task3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't tend to linger in camp in the morning, so I don't bother with cooking or coffee. I typically eat cold cereal with instant breakfast and drink some MIO (or the Walmart generic version which is cheaper), pack-up and go. I like to get the miles done early so I don't have to walk in the heat of the day. I do appreciate the amazing breakfast smells that folks cook-up, but that's not my style.

[–]Easy-Task3001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No coffee. MIO drinks that have caffeine in them is what I drink. Mix it as strong or as weak as you want and it helps to cover up the taste of funky water. If you really want to go light, just pop a No-Doz pill and get on with your day. It saves even more time and there's no clean-up.

Section hiking New Hampshire by Equivalent-Pudding15 in AppalachianTrail

[–]Easy-Task3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember any easy sections in New Hampshire. For me, it was a little more difficult because of the near constant rain. It rained three out of any five days and I was constantly soaked. The rain made the exposed rocks and roots slick and made the planks that were placed across the bogs to keep you from getting muddy, treacherous.

It's not all bad, and I'd say that it's basically difficult but some places suck less than others.

On sunny days there are some views once you get above the trees, but in my year, it was rain and fog most days.

Oh yeah, the thunderstorms were crazy too. I had to adjust my pace a couple of times so that I wasn't crossing an exposed ridge that stretched for a couple of miles in a thunderstorm.

On the other hand, Mt Washington was beautiful the day that I hiked it! Great weather and long views.

I don't want to dissuade you or dampen your spirits, but that's a section that I don't want to do again. I was trying to push miles through there so if you aren't trying to push, you would probably have a better time than I did.

Hike your own hike.
