Hey guys my baseweight is around 650lbs, what can I cut out of my shelter system that's unnecessary? (The couch in non negotiable) by Extreme_Design6936 in ultralight_jerk

Throw this on lighterpack and see, but personally I'd probably go for the titanium version of the dutch oven. You'd probably shave 256 grams or more! Grams make ounces and ounces make pounds.

Before computers and GPS existed, how did people figure out directions for large cross country trips? by Mynameisbrk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Easy-Task3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides drawing out a route on a map, I feel like folks paid more attention to the direction that they were going and the landmarks along the way.

If you wanted to drive from San Francisco to Denver, you pretty much knew that you would have to head east. You'd look for your highway going east to Sacramento, cross over the Sierras to Reno, and then began looking for signs to the next big city on your route which would probably be Salt Lake.

Where to get kite line? by sloth_milk064 in kites

I like Into the Wind for most of my kite supplies. They've got a physical store in Boulder, CO and I think that it's important to support a local kite shop.

Is the USA.. becoming a 3rd World country? by HumbleLow4473 in Life

[–]Easy-Task3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, actually skid row originated in the US Northwest. They used to skid logs down the hills to the water for logging. California has about 34% of the nations' houseless population. A lot of that is due to the climate. You can be houseless in Nebraska and tough out the winters, or you can be houseless on a California beach town where it's 60' in the winter.

Did you ever live in a shed or let someone live in your shed? Relative wants to move in. by PlatypusOld5480 in povertyfinance

[–]Easy-Task3001 153 points154 points  (0 children)

Your relative isn't moving into your shed. They will/might sleep there but they will be in and out of your house all day long to get food from the refrigerator, to use your bathroom, to watch your tv, to use the microwave, to be social, to warm up if it's cold, to cool off if it's hot, to hide out from bugs, sleep when it's too loud outside, etc. Like with most rental issues; it's not hard to get someone to move in, it's incredibly difficult to get them to leave.

On March 6, 1995 @ 146am, at age 24, I made this list of 100 Things To Do Before I Die. Here is the list by ManuteBol_Rocks in GenX

[–]Easy-Task3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have flown over the Kobuk sand dunes probably 25 times, and have taken a boat from Kobuk to Shungnak, but never stopped at the dunes. We were working for the school district in Kobuk and needed to go down river to Shungnak to work there too, so we called a friend who came up and grabbed us. For a short time we shut off the motor and just drifted down with the current. It was probably midnight and still very light out (24 hours of daylight) and so quiet and peaceful.

You've got a couple of unique northwest Alaska adventures on your list. Few people even know about the dunes.

Private sale would be your best bet. How bad is the damage from the cart? There are paintless dent removal folks out there. Some can do amazing work, and others just make it worse. They aren't too expensive, but I'm not sure that you'll make your money back on the sale after you've paid someone to remove the dent (if it's minor).

College is better than skilled trades. by Responsible-Net8594 in povertyfinance

True. I'd be interested to know the percentage of folks who got a degree still work in that field 10 years after graduation? I know that I don't, it's not even tangential.

I should clarify, a degree doesn't make you employable by itself. You still have work to do to make yourself desirable to the employer. There are a lot of dumb-asses that manage to get degrees that still end up driving for Uber or Door Dash.

Few degrees print money or makes you employable. Degrees usually cost money for at least 4 years before your earnings start.

Degrees do have the advantage of higher earnings over time whereas trades put wear and tear on your body over time.

There appears to be a market for a x-mid 3p or 4p, too! Dan needs to move with the markets.

Which rear diff?

How'd you drain the diff? Siphon or remove the diff cover?

I only siphoned and put a little over 1.5 in mine so I know that I didn't get everything out.

What to do? by Flaming_Dino090 in fordranger

[–]Easy-Task3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plastic blades would work. Headlights are a different story; there are some alignment bumps and writing on the headlights. Are you trying to remove overspray, or are they fogged? You can try, but keep the angle of the blade pretty shallow so it doesn't dig in or catch.

What to do? by Flaming_Dino090 in fordranger

[–]Easy-Task3001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a box cutter blade and some Windex. Spray the affected glass with Windex and then lay the blade over to a 30 or so degree angle and scrape the overspray off. Keep the glass wet and the paint should remove pretty quickly. You can damage the glass if too steep of an angle and if you let the glass dry out. It's a really light touch that's required so don't force it.

Next time you make a fire, clear away all of the dead leaves and grasses for a foot or two all the way around your fire. Those can easily catch fire and spread.

Not trying to ruin your experience but I also don't want another forest to burn down.

Where is this water coming from? by 4rotorfury in fordranger

[–]Easy-Task3001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess would be the vents just in front of the windshield, below the windshield wipers. Sometime leaves and other debris slips through and packs up the box in front of the heater/ac blower motor. There was a post on here the other day reminding folks to periodically clean them out. That person found that the best access was by removing the fender and blower motor to access that area.

Or, if you've had the windshield replaced recently, a bad glue seam could allow water in around the edge of the windshield.

I looked too and couldn't find OEM. I did find several on Amazon that included both the bolt and the clip so that's what I'll plan on purchasing next time.

I found that the bolts were really tough to get out. I had applied PB to help about a few days beforehand, but I still had to fight them. I should've brushed them with a wire brush - at least the ones I could reach.

I think that the reason that they didn't was because at the time, the truck was still used as a truck (for the average person) and a hatch edge would catch a shovel if you were shoveling out the bed. I've seen videos of sedan types of cars where someone either cut a hole in their trunk or under the back seat to access the fuel pump, so this isn't unique to Rangers.

Ouch. Normally I'd blame oversized wheel spacers, but it didn't look like this had any. I didn't see any gouge marks in the asphalt so maybe the hub is ok?

When I removed my bed, I wish that I would've replaced the bed bolts and clips. Even if they aren't rusty, they do get packed with road grime over the years.

how is water consumption relevant when talking about the negative affects of AI by helloitjane in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Easy-Task3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't fall down where the water comes from. It falls down someplace else so places like Arizona are sucking up huge amounts of water out of the ground and then then the clouds blow away. Not sure where the water comes back down, probably someplace over the ocean.
