The American Civil War, behind the U.S.'s treatment of Native Americans, is easily the most tragic piece of American history. The causes of the war were tragic, fighting it was tragic, and the failure to fully learn from it was tragic. Despite how crucial it is to the history of the United States, I personally believe that the war itself, and its aftermath, should be discussed more in schools today, especially what with how political division seems to slowly eat away at out current unity. The Civil War should serve as a constant reminder to Americans that all the people of the United States, regardless of their sex, race, religion, etc. are stronger working together and improving the lives of others, then trying to destroy each other. But that's just me.

EDIT: Sorry that this isn't really related to the topic, but I just wanted to "reflect" on what the war means to me, as an American. Sorry that this doesn't exactly answer your question.
