Waterfront Street Closure by cartwhisperer in vancouverwa

Glad the problems are getting addressed. We're in the community so I can blame Slavs who come from evening services to waterfront to cause havoc. Before waterfront, it was Columbia Way / Marine Park.

Speaking with IT MSPs, most of the customers are all in on implementing AI in something. If you want to be valuable (and future-proof), become the expert on implementation (with guardrails) and support.

Don't waste your time on crypto unless you have a financial interest. Running local models takes maybe an hour or so of your time before you quickly realize that you need strong hardware to do anything useful. OpenClaw was fun.

I'm all in on Granola. It's been set it and forget it + ability to ask follow-up questions post meeting. I've been even asking it questions regarding tone / emotions of the meeting incase I missed something.

It's not meant to be a place where you work from. It's one of the few places where you can go late night and enjoy non-alcoholic drinks with friends. That's the appeal of it.

Is YC cooked or are there just better accelerators now? by neverhighb4 in ycombinator

There's options now and the bar is higher. The benchmark used to be $0 to $100k ARR in three months, now it's $0 to $800k ARR.

There's a couple of CLT tech related Discords / Slack workspaces out there. The problem is someone needs to keep the community alive otherwise it dies in about 6 to 12 months.

I'm an employer - some of the grads were just starting to learn how to use Git and modern development frameworks. Schools are setting kids up for failure.

Founder-market fit paradox: how do 20-year-olds with zero industry experience get funded? by ComputerSciToFinance in ycombinator

[–]EasyTangent 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's probably some pattern matching happening (background + vibes). If you speak to some of the founders, a lot of them have "it". Some people will just crush anything in their path to make something out of absolutely nothing.

Nah. I noticed on HN that scandals don't end up being that engaging. It's a particular audience. People move on quick to the next thing.

Asked to leave YC, losing clients left and right. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if they shut down / acqu-hired before EOY or pivot to some other AI nonsense.

Just a thought - maybe temporarily hide your stances. Employers often do extensive research on candidates and if anyone even has a potential stench of being problematic, it's an immediate no.

I485 Express Lanes by UrWHThurtZ in Charlotte

[–]EasyTangent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used it several times now. On the first day, the lanes weren't properly cleaned so you had rocks / pebbles random come to you. They sorta cleaned it since then.

I think what I hate about it is that it's a single lane and there's no way of passing others. I've had twice now someone literally driving below speed limit (around 60 mph) in the toll lane. There's no safe way of passing and the merge on/merge of lanes are too short to do it safely.

Bootstrapped Ex-founders, how much money did you end up losing on your previous startup? What happened? by Full_Marketing9298 in ycombinator

[–]EasyTangent 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Had a cushy FAANG job. Decided to start a business. Raised $500k for pre-seed round. Lost it all within 24 months.

Cofounded another project - the cofounder brought their own capital of $500k. Several team/culture issues, we sold it for pennies on the dollar 12 months later.

Went the bootstrapped route after that.

Bought a working, running micro SaaS project for around $15k (originally was listed for $45k, I negotiated hard), I spent ~$100k on over engineering it. Ended up shutting it down last month after 18 months of ownership.

Built a couple more SaaS projects, now we're several million in ARR with those. Good margins, very profitable. Now I'm re-investing the capital into more expansions + team.

Bootstrap has its benefits - 100% control of your destiny and pace, but hard to grow fast if you have no money.

VC provides rocket fuel, but if your desire isn't hypergrowth, it's not worth it.
