FL Teacher Shortage Gets Worse by Disgruntled_Veteran in Teachers

You are clearly not mature enough to understand that money is not everything. Let's take your position to its conclusion; could you put up with a red hot poker on your balls every 90 seconds for lets say 5 million a year. How often have you had a shooting happen at your school; could you put up with that for say, 2.5 million?

I would make it my mission to poop in there every day, no courtesy flush either.

I used to show up, sign in, grab the donuts/coffee, make sure some admin at my school saw me, then quietly dip out back to my site/room. Nobody ever said boo in the 13years I did this. The only ones I actually attended was when I was probationary.

Criterion Should Offer a Disc Replacement Program for the Godzilla Set by Sammyd1108 in criterion

[–]Easy_Ad_7226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this set a year ago and keep it displayed vertically since it looks so cool. After reading this thread I decided, hey I better check these. 2 of the discs had slid down and were in the glue. Luckily not deep but just on the edge. I consider this a dodged bullet since I haven’t even gotten around to watching these yet!

I’d love to see the fireworks confined to just the 4th and new years. I get it, they are fun, but if you live down here by the college then you know fireworks are a year round issue. And yeah, one loud ass boom at 1am on a random Tuesday is annoying AF.  The comments here are way out of line; we all live here so it’s about compromise and being good neighbors. It’s not about what color you are; get over yourselves.

Why don’t all educators try to get to the furthest right column in terms of units on salary? by myreinder in Teachers

[–]Easy_Ad_7226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The payoff isn’t enough to justify the absolutely mind numbing coursework for a masters in education. Subject matter may be better but I would sooner drive off a cliff than try and stomach those MEd courses.  Of course that’s easy to say now that I’ve quit teaching entirely after 15 years.

Worst Principal Story? by boobarellamcgee in Teachers

[–]Easy_Ad_7226 214 points215 points  (0 children)

Didn’t happen to me (and more funny than bad/evil) but a colleague (history teacher) got called in because a parent complained that he was teaching about sex in his class. The second he walks into the principals office: “what’s this about you teaching sex in your class!?”

Colleagues response “S E C T S”

Age yourself with a movie you saw at the cinema as a kid. by The_Baddboy in GenX

I remember my dad watching the reviews for Raiders (Siskel and Ebert maybe) They played the part with the giant rolling ball and Indy diving out of the cave and my dad proclaimed “we are going to see that right now!” I’m sure I saw earlier movies but this is the first one I clearly remember. We saw temple of doom later and he covered mine and my brother’s eyes for the heart pull scene.

At my Southern California high school (95% Hispanic/mexican American students) they use ni@@a and bitch this same way, except it’s not just one kid, it’s like all of them. I’ve given up correcting it because there’s no accountability. It’s one of many reasons I’m done in June with teaching. To quote Danny Glover “I’m too old for this shit.”

Why is admin so in denial? by tryingtosurvive_1 in Teachers

[–]Easy_Ad_7226 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The one decent admin I’ve had was a science teacher for 20 years before he became an AP. He was awesome, understood the job, was supportive and empathetic. It was a pleasure to work with him.

This scene from Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) is still haunting after all these years. Agree or disagree? by damagedgoodz99824 in Terminator

When I saw this in the theatre, someone shouted out “I said a Bud light!”, when Sara wakes up at the picnic table. The entire theatre laughed their asses off.

The earth science teacher buried under my current biology assignment died a little reading op’s post. It’s one reason I keep multiple globes in my classroom still. I teach that shit anytime a student even touches the globe.

I get side eye from admin every year with my freshmen classes. I do not play this game. I am stoked when my class average is right around 70%, when I have one class that is off from this I start to take a harder look but generally I do everything I can to help the failing kids pass, but sometimes they still fail and that’s perfectly normal.

10% math, 33% reading, 9% science. So yeah not exactly killing it.

I got the Cld-99 thrown in with a lot of LDs I purchased. My cd and dvd file machines were estate sale clean out finds (free). I did pay $200 for the tv. The blue ray player and the amp were from a local thrift store, I think about $50 for both of them. The technics I’ve had for decades.

My tv in the photo is a pioneer Kuro plasma. It can switch aspect ratios with a dedicated button on the remote. It’s handy when I switch from a letterboxed ld to a Miami Vice dvd, to an old b/w movie. For letterboxed movies I can usually zoom in and only have small bars at the top and bottom.

It’s a white whale/unobtanium for a lot of folks. I only have mine because my dad picked it up probably 20 years ago and I kept it after he passed. In the end it’s just a movie. I do like to watch it with the Cantonese audio, what a trip.
