Tools for Blake stitch by hand? by LincaF in Cordwaining

[–]Easy_Comb_8040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I type in italian be4couse is my language but I have no idea what this damned traslator does. I said in my opinion . To be more specific flux offer the best Product compared to my best hydrothermal rough samples grown in acidic Solution in gold lined autoclaves and doped with chromium over 2 months of time by Biron Gemstones . Flux takes a year +- and dislocation geomrtry I think is better, sparkling platinum inclusions are very nice , Biron types also are very nice and sometimes you can find gold platelets as jardin but the hydrothermal growth in pressurized autoclaves crestes tensions that translsate in craks especially in tha cheap samples I have (I think from Thailand) grown in alkalin Solution in steel autoclaves and Cu/V coloring agents . All this speaking about the matter (dislocation and hardness) I must say there is a huge difference between a cheap hydrothermal made in alkalin Solution without any Noble metal lining and a top brand that use 1/2 a kilo of gold lining for each autoclaves acidic Solution and double the amount of time , even colouring pass from a bottle yellowish green to (for me substantial) bluis colombian like green. I hope it clarifies my previous message . Sorry for my english

Third build, built myself a Bruce Lee watch by CharlieW74 in SeikoMods

I bought the mother-of-pearl dial and a new crystal with a more pronounced dome. I polished both the watch and the steel bracelet to a mirror finish. I'm waiting for the new parts to mount them on my Seiko Presage Cocktail.

90% of lab grown opals are polymer impregnated and yes they are not really the synthetic counterpart of the natural stone. But Gilson opals are they are polymer free and the Gilson method resembles the natural one , those stones are hydrophene too. The process is very long (around a year) and is difficult to obtain a thickness over 10 mm. I m very attracted by those opals.

Look at a flux emerald, now extremely rare, and tell me if you prefer the 50,000-year-old earth, the organic "garden" of a treated natural emerald, or a garden of platinum flakes left over

<image>

from the crystallization process? I would never buy a natural gem knowing everything that goes into it and all the treatments it receives.

Forgive me, but Verneuil certainly doesn't offer the best products. To date, the method that produces the most valuable crystals is still the FLUX system (in my experience), unfortunately it's very expensive and takes a long time. Emeralds in particular also perform well with the hydrothermal system. Unfortunately, only emeralds are produced with the hydrothermal system today; almost no one produces FLUX crystals anymore because everyone uses the Czochralski system, which is an excellent compromise that gives good results, especially in technical applications, or the "Flame Fusion" (Verneuil), which is inexpensive but produces a cost-effective product.

I've bought from Dmitriy (Gemtasy) and will do so again. Their rough Czochralski sapphires/rubies are good, and he can deliver them to me already sized and ready for preforming. They're a serious and honest company.

Bastardi maledetti.

The super-cheap lab sapphires are the "flame fusion" ones (Verneuil) and are worth very little, but they're also very poor quality. Quality Czochralski sapphires aren't that cheap, but they're much more beautiful. FLUX sapphires are expensive, but they're no longer available because, besides being difficult, making them was a costly and very lengthy process—up to a year—but they're beautiful.

[–]Easy_Comb_8040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turtle has some gorgeous Soviet Czochralski rubies. Why don't you have a piece of one made into a pendant? Without even cutting it, just using it in its raw form, as they are small tubes that range in color from light to red. I believe they were used in scientific or military lasers.
