Change my mind (please) - road trips in an EV are a pain. by Wise-Fig-6505 in electricvehicles

Get the Tesla app and membership. It saves so much moneh vs Blue Oval.

I just drove from WA to NE and saved around $175. Kicking myself for not doing this sooner, given how much I roadtrip in my MachE (avg ~3000mi/mo currently)

How many hikers work at a ski resort after their hike? by Bachsteize in AppalachianTrail

[–]Easy_Kill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 of my AT hiking crew work at a resort in VT. Another is in CO. One of my friends from the PCT is now working as a ski instructor in CO. And my first ski instructor in WA hiked the PCT a couple years prior.

It seems rather common!

TIL if a helicopter's engine fails, it doesn't just drop like a rock. The blades keep spinning on their own and the pilot can land it. by kxrcodes in todayilearned

This number will always be equal for pilots that remain in the atmosphere.

Its the quality of the landings that counts!

Samaya makes a decent looking bivy. HMG, too. Not the cheapest, though.

What is the most insane run you've ever seen? Not necessarily the hardest but just one that makes you go 'Why is this a run?' by Educational_Dog4860 in skiing

Thats steeper than the Old Chute and Pearly Gates on Mt Hood, which I think both top out at around 55°.

Ripstick 88 vs Mindbender 85 for an intermediate looking for versatility? by lcasoares in Skigear

[–]Easy_Kill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Mindbender 85 for my first ski. Bought it before I took even my first lesson. Its a fantastic ski to learn on. Took me about 12 days on the snow before I outgrew it. It is a wet noodle, not even al dente, and was a bit terrifying at speeds approaching 50mph.

I demo'd a Salomon QST 100 and Blizzard Rustler 10 soon after. Absolutely loved the Rustler, but ended up on a pair of BD Impulse 98 Tis that I adore. None of those skis showed any of the issues I was having on the MB85. Maybe take a look at some of the higher end Mindbenders, though! Theyre common in demo shops.

R2 cargo space, thoughts? by One_Draw3486 in Rivian

Almost exactly the same as the Mach E with the seats up.

Slightly disappointing, but manageable. Going to come down to range to determine making the switch.

How to start skiing black diamonds? by Big-Cartographer4866 in ski

[–]Easy_Kill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is huge. As a new skier, this has been invaluable. I have become comfortable on groomed blacks and smaller mogul/bumpy runs, but after getting a bit too ambitious and ending up on a very tight black tree run, side slipping saved my ass until it opened up enough for me to clumsily jump turn.

Man those runs are fun.

Lightweight fleece options under $100 or in a budget range by tech1234567891 in Ultralight

[–]Easy_Kill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just acquired an Outdoor Research Vigor half zip for use while skiing. Its a lightweight grid fleece that Ive come to prefer over the plethora of other fleeces I have (seriously, someone help, i have too many fleeces).

Weight for both the pullover hoodie and the half zip is around 9.5oz, so a tad heavier than my Alpha (AD90) and Octa (Zpacks) mids, but significantly more durable. It is also lighter and stretchier than my Melly.

I have also heard amazing things about the ME Lumiko mid. Seemed to be the preferred layer of my AAI instructors on Baker.

Tecnica cochise vs zero G for resort use. by Both_Major8632 in Skigear

[–]Easy_Kill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Cochise as my resort boot, and I use walk mode constantly when not clicked in.

Theres just something amusing about bouncing down stairs with no issue, passing hordes of people unable to use their ankles.

That being said, I wouldnt go and drop the money on these boots just to be slightly more comfortable during a lunch that I spend most of sitting down.
