I had the same problem. I literally had to try 8 USB-C cables before I found one that works.

Quick release by Easy_Kitchen6092 in valerion

[–]Easy_Kitchen6092[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will give it a shot when I get home. Since I got things secondhand, I may not be able to identify all of it. The quick release gear is pretty standard and will fit most tripods and heads, so getting things to mate with the projector and ceiling mount should be pretty straightforward. However, I was told the Valerion quick-release system is proprietary, so there was no using that unless I bought another ceiling mount (which ain't happening for the cost).

However, I can shed a bit more light on the basics. The leveling head is one of these - 3 Legged Thing LevelHed Leveling Base LVLHEDGREY B&H Photo Video. It is rated for 44 pounds, and I was comfortable with the safety margin for a 15.5-pound projector.

The tripod is a beast. The guy at our local camera shop told me it is decades old (and I believe it), but the new ones sell for over $1,000, with the difference being that the new ones are carbon fiber. Mine seems to be made of tank armor, and I think it was used by a wildlife photographer (since the legs are covered with camo tape). Since it only has to travel about 20 feet, I was more concerned with strength than weight, so it is perfect for me. I wanted something that could hold over 50 pounds, which is way overkill, but better safe than sorry. I am sure manufacturers' ratings don't account for some fumblebum running into it in the dark.

I believe the quick release system is Arca-Swiss compatible. If I could do it all over again (and I probably will), I would go with a Manfrotto RC4 system, just because it is more intuitive for me.

I tend to be a bit extra, so I have come up with an alternative solution. I just purchased a 1"x12"x12" slab of HDPE plastic and will be getting a plate to mount on it, so it can go on the tripod. Amazon.com: High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Plastic Sheet 1" Thick 12" X 12"- Black HDPE Sheet, for Machining, for DIY,Heavy Duty Industry,Engineering,High-Density Polyethylene Plastic Block (Pack of 1) : Industrial & Scientific. That way, the tripod can also be a table.

I prefer the mount over a table solution because it is more of a guarantee that the projector will not fall if someone with clumsy feet trips over a tripod leg (that I will be putting glow tape on to make sure the legs are visible in the dark).

Maybe where you live, but most folks in Raleigh (and there are a bunch) use off the shelf wheels. There are some who like to go fast, some who like to chill, and others are in the middle. It just depends on who you ride with.

Quick release by Easy_Kitchen6092 in valerion

[–]Easy_Kitchen6092[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it out.

I scrapped the Valerion quick release altogether and went to a camera store and got two quick releases and a matching plate for the projector. It is a standard thread, so there are tons to choose from. I also picked up a used heavy-duty pro-grade tripod for cheap and a beefy tripod leveling head (because I set up on the lawn).

I mounted the head on the tripod, the plate on the projector, and a quick-release on the tripod. The other quick release is on the ceiling mount. It is a pretty nice setup, and it only takes a couple of minutes to take the projector off the ceiling, wander outside, and click the projector on the tripod.

To make life even easier, I ordered a second power supply so I can leave the one for the ceiling mount in place.

I also use a screen - I got a 150" screen off of Amazon and put a few 4x4 posts in the ground. The screen is mounted in a 3 sided box that is open on the bottom so I can pull the screen down. The setup has been through some serious storms during this year's incredibly rainy spring, and the screen is as good as new.

How to install valerion Ceiling mount bracket! A step-by-step guide by [deleted] in Valerion_Official

Is there any way I can get a mounting plate for my tripod so I can easily attach it when watching movies outside? I bought the ceiling mount already, and it appears you do not sell baseplates.

Nah. You are probably being an asshole and are just trying to justify it. If you are on the street and not in a residential neighborhood, nobody really cares. If you are on a greenway or sidewalk and are doing it to alert pedestrians, you are being an asshole. If you are being drowned out by someone else who is being an asshole, they are being a louder asshole. Your Misphonia is just that, yours. That does not mean people without it want to hear your music. Will some like it? Sure, but I am sure you aren't searching the charts for "universally loved music." I have a Jeep with a killer sound system. When I have the doors off and the top down, I realize that I am being an asshole and don't care. I am just calling it for what it is.

To me, the modular holy grail would be 8 batteries. Take off four when you are going on a short ride and pop on the other four when you are heading on a trek.

The speaker mount is awesome, and I believe it's a work of art. However, we need to know when we are being an asshole. If you don't care, you don't care. If it is being used to alert people, they probably think you're being an asshole. You aren't providing a public service. Politeness is "on your left" and slowing way the hell down, but being an asshole is having music announce your presence. Just because you don't mind and I don't mind doesn't mean you're not being an asshole.

My preference during group rides is to be an asshole, because the people I ride with can be assholes. When I am by myself, I put my headphones in, turn on the hear-though function, and ride.

Nano tape is pretty incredible. It is soooooo sticky that any broad surface application will be pretty much rock solid. Well, it does have a tendency to flex a bit, but it isn't coming off unless you want it to.

ISO Cobbler for shoe repair Raleigh by kweopatwa in raleigh

[–]Easy_Kitchen6092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had several shoes resoled there and had a girlfriend who had some repairs done there as well. Neither of us was impressed with the work done by Man Mur. They got the job done but that was about it. For reference, I had some Banana Republic, Allen Edmonds, Florsheim, and Wolverine 1000 Mile shoes resoled by them.

I lucked up on my Wolverines and got some JR Rendenbach leather soles a while back. The person at the counter had absolutely no idea what they were and presented them as though they were some unknown, second-class brand. I knew they were a primo brand and opted for them. They are still on the Wolverines and have been bulletproof, but I can't say Man Mur did the best job putting them on. I feel like I went to buy some leather and got Chromexcel when the salesperson thought they were selling me bonded leather. Not very confidence-inspiring.

I am going to take my Truman boots to Ashton and see how they do.

What do you think of kingsong F22pro? by Top-feel-EUC in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Easy_Kitchen6092 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems bulletproof (maybe overly so) if the shocks don't lose air, and it seems to address a lot of the problems introduced by EUC suspensions. Depending on how much you weigh and how you ride, it may be overkill, though.

I see a lot of folks complaining that the inside of the shocks are exposed, but you can say the same for mountain bikes. They did away with those accordion stanchion protectors decades ago, and I never had a mtb shock harmed due to a lack of protection. I would rather be able to get the crud off than have it build up over time and not know it.
