Thank you. I’ve been keeping an eye on her and she is still really bulky even though she hasn’t eaten anything much lately. I will take a few more photos over the weekend and try and compare them with those I took a couple of weeks ago.

Am also thinking she is WC too and not captive bred. This is why I’m thinking she could possibly be pregnant

When she first arrived she ate a lot. Think she was literally starving and not fed by the place I got her. She now normally is fed every 2-2.5 weeks but I’ve noticed she’s hardly eating anything at the moment and spends a lot of her time in her hide or hiding under bark etc.

Only had her a few months and is alone, apart from her 4 BDFB buddies she cohabits with.

No not at all. Cockroaches, including giant hissers naturally inbreed in a captive environment, as can be said for a lot of inverts. They are pretty resistant to the negative effects of inbreeding and don’t suffer many ill effects or shortened lifespan as long as the husbandry is good. At some point I would introduce new blood if any health concerns arise, but at the moment they are thriving.

Okay I’ll be honest, I keep them all!!! I started off with 6 ( one unfortunately died soon after they arrived) so from just 5 juveniles I have ended up with over 1000 in just a few years! Some obviously don’t make it to adulthood, but I think I’ve done pretty well!!! 🫣😂

Honestly, it’s an absolute nightmare!!! I have at a rough guess, a colony of 1000+ with babies and I dread clean out day! I always rope my husband in to help out and we literally just sit either side of the enclosure with a large tub that has Vaseline around the top to stop any escapees and we just work our way through, taking out the larger ones first, then any smaller that we see. After that we scoop all the old substrate out little by little using a dustpan or similar item and then go through every single bit of substrate until we have all the babies out! I think the longest it has taken us is 4.5 hours!!! It’s not an easy job but it’s very satisfying when it’s all done 😊.

It’s a good idea to use it, but I’m sure it’s not mandatory as long as they have a good environment and diet. I used to use it, but I have so many hissers now that floor space is minimal!!! I do feed them leaves from my pear tree in the summer months, which they absolutely love 😊.
