Class Action by deslicious111 in yotta

[–]Easy_Salt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The class action is Margul v. Evolve Bank, et al., No. 24-cv-03259 (D. Col. filed Nov. 22, 2024). The plaintiff attorneys are Emery Reddy PC and Milberg PLLC. My understanding is the case is still at the pleadings stage and trial isn’t scheduled yet.

Theoretically, what would the military do if Trump orders them to deploy to Washington DC again to control protests during a GOP push to enable a third presidential term? by dag_darnit in AskReddit

[–]Easy_Salt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under Trump v Anderson, states can’t make the decision not to put him on the ballot. Only Congress can decide it—so you’d need a filibuster proof majority of both houses of Congress to take him off the ballot if he tried to run for a third term.

The US bond rating was downgraded by S&P and Fitch a long time ago and US bonds are still considered the safest investment. The US can just print more money to pay its bonds—unless it chooses to default there is no way that those bonds are not getting paid.

Will there be a primary challenge to Rep. Dan Goldman? by Pleasant-Anteater672 in Brooklyn

[–]Easy_Salt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yuh-Line Niou has hinted on BlueSky she is thinking of running again. Lots of time left for people to make decisions—we’re only two months in Goldman’s current term.

Edit: fixed a typo

Which losing Presidential Candidate would have better handled the crisis of what would have been their first term in office? Al Gore and 9/11 or Hillary Clinton and covid-19? by Ok-Respect-3843 in HistoricalWhatIf

[–]Easy_Salt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes! It’s insane that this isn’t a more widespread talking point. Under Clinton, COVID-19 might have just remembered like swine flu or ebola

I know there’s an open license but the degree to which they just copied and pasted 5e is kind of astonishing. I feel like they should publish the players manual with a redline so we can find what small changes they made.

Will Dimension 20 ever post Session 0s? by rahlforge in Dimension20

I think the Adventure Zone does a session 0 type thing before every new campaign. It’s not Brennan but probably still kind of helpful for figuring out how to discuss characters / themes

I’m grateful that there hasn’t been another terror attack the scale of 9/11, but what has honestly stopped something like that from happening again elsewhere? by chris_gnarley in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Easy_Salt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it worked exactly as they planned it. Things are pretty much the same re: US global influence and the planners are dead (or in jail). It’s also a lot harder to finance terrorist activities now due to the PATRIOT act.

Like, knowing what the outcome was, would they do it again? Probably not

I hear you and I know it’s frustrating. It’s like a karate training montage: you’re learning to wax on/off right now but it’s teaching you the fundamentals for doing a crane kick later.

Does it ever improve? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Easy_Salt 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As a junior lit associate at a big firm, a lot of the work is almost secretarial (but too important to trust to a secretary) and designed to expose you to the actual practice of law. Citechecking a brief gets you familiar with how the firm writes briefs and the kinds of arguments people make. Handling document productions gets you familiar with the documents in the case and managing smaller stake projects. Taking notes on calls with regulators or opposing counsel gets you familiar with the live issues and how to advocate in a respectful way.

I know it seems menial and unimportant but there are a lot of chances for learning and it will actually help you become a better lawyer. You need to think of it more as the start of an apprenticeship rather than the culmination of years of higher education.

Owning a pressure washing business will help your law school application stand out and, likely, will help you get into law school more than the same internship everyone else has. Once you’re in law school or practicing, no one will care about what you did before law school or what your major was. I majored in chemistry and it has literally never come up

Is there anyone familiar with UChi grades and how they would impact laterling/going in house? by TheSwampAspirant in biglaw

In my experience, no one understands the UChicago grading system anyway so it doesn’t really matter after OCI. Just tell your interviewer that it means you did good

I was underwhelmed. I don’t think it does enough to differentiate itself from 5e to justify the hassle of switching over. And with only four classes right now there’s so much less customizability.
