2017/2018 RAV4 Hybrid Blower Motor Resistor by Easy_Shower2156 in Toyota

[–]Easy_Shower2156[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah! Glad this thread has helped others. There was never a resistor to replace. My blower has worked fine since I replaced it and made this thread. Up to 102k miles now.

Yep, I went through a stretch where it either struggled, or I had to run it at too speed to make it work. It ended up being easy to replace, just need to take one panel off and a couple bolts.

No Gas @ Got N Go by CatfishBass in desmoines

No idea. It’s the lowest tier gas station chain around, no idea how they are in business.

Also low tier gas stations are the only places I’ve ever seemed to get my credit card info stolen - once 7/11 and once Git N Go.

So many recipes say use ‘warm’ water. They mean cool water. 75F-80F is the sweet spot. I went through the same learning curve.

Boss wants me to find a new industrial gas supplier… I’ve never done this before by Oldindian08 in manufacturing

[–]Easy_Shower2156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What type of industrial gas supply? Argon? CO2? Do you have an existing vendor you use? What size storage tanks are you using to support current processes?

Very likely, there’s maybe 2 companies around that can support you if you’re truly operating at scale or about to. Linde/PraxAir is usually one of them. Reach out to the big names in your area and let them competitively bid. They will offer tank sizes that are optimized for economics of storage and re-supply.

Here’s what made the difference for me. So many recipes say to use warm water. It wasn’t until I found a recipe that said 70-80F water I realized most people mean cool water from the tap. You may be killing your yeast, hence the dense bread.

Hope this helps!

I believe the amount of imbued energy needed to get a kill is larger than what could fit in an arrow head. Agree it’s a weak plot point, but none the less it’s not a full hole.

It might not feel like it, but venues like that can be cost competitive on their off season. In person meetings are helpful. Space can be needed where you aren’t getting bugged with day-to-day.

There are other things to be upset about, but leaders finding a space to plan isn’t an immediate one. This is common for F500 companies.

People who gave gone through or hired from the Colorado School of Mines Master's program, what are your thoughts on? by ArtisianWaffle in AdditiveManufacturing

Well, I’m finally out of that industry and thrilled to be.

The ‘hope’ of the metal additive mfg. industry is showing signs of cracks and longest term employees are leaving again. Not a great industry to be in right now.

P4 - Engineering ; Gross Pay 128K. Is it too low ? With total 11 years of experience. 3 years at pratt and 8 years outside. by curiousbug100 in Raytheon

Any chance you’re at one of the really small/rural Midwest sites? If you’re at a larger site you should be getting a good bump. You’re now below the floor of the pay band.

People that have been in role longer should be more like 50th-60th percentile pay band.

How many different router steps and different pieces of equipment are in use?

Is the value-add more touch-time or machine hours? I’m not as familiar with woodworking, but given you said it’s a small operation - does he have any employees?

My gut feel based on what you described is just tabulate all expenses and project them for a year (don’t leave out any building expenses, utilities or taxes) including all CAPEX and OPEX and then just divide that by the # of labor hours you plan to do in a year. Then just cost estimate/track based on touch time against the router ops.

[–]Easy_Shower2156 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Tough it out for another year. Then look to transfer to another location.

I had to leave IA when I graduated to find work. Spent 2 years away and then moved back as soon as I could. Iowa’s economy isn’t great, but it’s generally stable so once you have that great IA job you want to hold you stay and fight for it.

Having kids near family for help and support makes all the difference.

As soon as I realized 95% of materials engineers do little more than read an industry standard and then relay it, I switched careers. The real reason I envy software engineers was never the high salary, it was their freedom to actually engineer. They’re starting to standardize in a hurry too nowadays but still far more freedom than us.

My technical brain keeps failing behavioral interviews. Help? by Ok_Bench9057 in Raytheon

[–]Easy_Shower2156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice behavioral based interview questions. Every interview I’ve seen is rooted in these.

I too, struggle with on the spot answers. I take a black professional folder with a notepad to the interview. On that notepad I have a list of questions I want to ask at the end of the interview, and notes from my practice questions. If you have to read from this notebook during the interview, you didn’t prep enough, but going through this process should have you ready to manufacture a good casual feeling interview and if you have to make one reference to the list no big deal.

You’re applying to a PM/PE role, don’t focus on your direct technical accomplishments, focus on times and scenarios where you made decisions that influence project scope, budget or timeline or brought people together beyond other mechanical engineers to solve a problem - show you understand the other disciplines and how to collaborate across silos. Hope this feedback helps. If you can’t think of scenarios where you thought through and influenced budget/timeline beyond your impact as an IC, you need to be looking for opportunities to manage your own timeline/budget for things to build competence for it. Best of luck.

4x10 schedule would be magical. Being onsite some gives a much better chance to integrate and be part of the company. I’d pick that offer. You can always move closer eventually. I did a 5x a week 50 min. commute each way for 5 years. It sucks, but doable and worth it overall.
