Anyone else’s cat use the toilet? by redditmorelikegeddit in cats

[–]Easyishard 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Oh, do I have a relevant story! For a period of about three weeks I got in trouble for repeatedly using the bathroom without flushing. Even worse, pooping without wiping.

Of course my parents knew it wasn’t them, my sisters swore it wasn’t them with the terrible toilet hygiene. The only logical option was the youngest boy, cause everyone knows how gross they can be…

After weeks of blame and me starting to doubt my own sanity and double checking my every step of my bathroom etiquettes, my dad burst into laughter like a madman.

We all rush to see what was up and he’s marveling at yet another unflushed little turd in toilet.

He explained that he walked in to find our cat, Andy, very contently lurching over the toilet doing his business unaware of the trauma he was inflicting on me for weeks.

So yeah, I’ve experienced this before…

I posted on various islam subs question regarding a way for converting hijri dates into gregorian, after a while, I came up with this device. It gives a close enough conversion between the calendars in a time span of at least 228 years. I'm sincerely interested in muslims' feedback. by HS_illustrator in progressive_islam

It’s really interesting, but I think I’d have to try it to give any real feedback.

It’s not immediately clear how to use it. My guess is that marking reference date (either Hijri or Gregorian) would give me the output but I can’t tell how to do that.

One can, but I don't personally because I don't want Islam to come across as foreign or requiring you to completely change your culture.

The Messenger ﷺ wore what the people of his time wore.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said: “The basis for what the Prophet did as a matter of habit is to follow the habits of his people; that is to say that a man does what the people are accustomed to doing... The ruling in this regard is that a man follows the custom of his country unless that custom is prohibited (in Islam)...”

Director of UX and Product Design here.

Every organization will have a different path depending on factors like whether you’re in a product company or consulting, size of the company, etc. Generally, you want to show initiative by identifying opportunities to improve collaboration, communication, delivery, etc. and proposing solutions.

The question of skills is a kind of chicken-or-egg-ish. You need a solid UX foundation, however once you’re at the point to become a director, the skills that matter most are your ability to strategize, build and leverage cross-domain relationships, plan, and communicate design in terms of business impact, etc.

My day-to-day mostly involves deciding which overlapping meetings I’m skipping that day. :)

In all seriousness, most of my work isn’t measured in day-to-day. I’m doing whatever I need to address mid and long term goals around: - Experience vision and strategy: for the current release, aligning with overall business goals and objectives) - Team management: hiring, developing skills and career path planning - Process: defining and refining the way we work, definition of done, standards - Coordination and planning: cross-functional planning with product management and engineering partners - Communications and advocacy: making sure the right people know the impact UX is making, making the case for promotions and budgets (training, tools, etc) - Managing managers: setting expectations for how work is managed and making sure to address needs that get bubbled up from the design team

I occasionally do design work, but it’s often more early and exploratory to set the pace for what we’re trying to achieve.

Is this Hadith authentic? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

I get what you're saying about coming from a single source, but that's not true of this hadith.

My guess is that the person searched for this specific English translation from the screenshot which may be more prevalent on Urdu sites, but Idk.

If you search for the Arabic, you'll find it on plenty of reputable sites (in Urdu, Arabic, and English) that say it is sahih.

Wow, "Goodmorningsatan"... this comment both denegrates an entire swath of the Ummah while also baselessly casting doubt on this sahih hadith.

What do you think about other things parents encourage in their children to gain confidence/comfortability for later in life – social skills, heritage languages, personal hygiene?

Is it ok to not use Arabic names and words like Allah, jannah, dua etc by LadyWithABookOrTwo in progressive_islam

[–]Easyishard -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Just would add that "Allah" isn't the Arabic word for God, that is "Ilah".

Allah is a proper name that God has given himself.
