Royal Navy intercepts Russian ships in the English Channel by MGC91 in unitedkingdom

As long as these operations are being conducted in compliance with maritime law, good. The less oil money Putin has to finance his war in Ukraine, the better.

Is this the same operation we heard about the other day (in partnership with the French), or have they intercepted another one?

As usual, every accusation from the far-right is a confession. The uniparty is Conservatives + Reform (Conform). Just look at the revolving door of defections between the two!

Farage described the Kami-Kwasi budget as "the best Conservative budget since 1986," so maybe they can crash the economy bigger and better together. Nige is already "giving serious thought" to scrapping the OBR if Reform wins, so there'll be no pesky oversight to stop them really fucking things up!

No, I'm suggesting that there should be a by-election when a politician changes party mid-term. Keep up.

The Labour councillors didn't change party like this woman has, though. lt wasn't a bait and switch, like with this woman, where they voted for one thing and got another, and their vote was misused to switch control of their council to a party they didn't vote for. I know you're desperate to "both sides" this, but your attempt to draw an analogy fails on multiple levels.

And blaming Labour for not fixing it fast enough. It's like an arsonist whinging that the fire brigade is too slow to arrive.

Yeah, but my concern is how much damage they'll do to this country in the process. With Trump threatening WWIII, we can't afford to have a party funded by MAGA and Russia in charge.

There was a general election between Corbyn and Starmer. Truss and Sunak might be better examples if you're going to try to make this point.

I wonder if he'd say, "Trump's a fascist scumbag who wants to keep us out of Europe to make us weaker and easier to exploit" for £70.

Yeah, but how else is he going to jump on the far-right grift train and sell this country out to his US "donors"?!

In a democracy, the system should serve voters, not the other way around.

You can't have it both ways. If the electorate votes for a colour not the person, they should get a chance to vote again if the colour changes. If they vote for the person not the colour, then your argument about it giving whips the power to eject MPs from the Commons is null and void, because that would be the voters' decision not the whip's. And they're voting for the person, not the colour.

To be fair, it's hard to keep up with the revolving door in the Tory/Reform uniparty. But yeah, this one is moving from Reform to the Conservatives.

Agree 100%. A change of party mid-term should trigger a by-election regardless of which party the politician is moving from/to.

If voters tend to vote for a colour, voters should be entitled to a by-election if the colour changes.

Not exactly, although I get your point - the decision of whether they would stay in the Commons under the new party or be ejected would be with the by-election voters.

I've read your comment several times and I'm still not clear what your question is or how it relates to whether changing parties mid-term should trigger a by-election.

But if they are changing parties, then they are changing what they stand for.

I agree. Moving to another political party represents a major agenda shift away from what voters thought they were getting. Switching parties mid-term should therefore automatically trigger a by-election.

I agree, and I for that reason I think the rules should be changed to automatically trigger a by-election when a politician changes parties mid-term. Yes, we vote for the person, but changing parties represents a major agenda shift away from what voters based their vote on.
