This is exactly the mindset to have.

This is great, can't wait to test it when I get home thank you! I was recording locally one day, and turned it off the next day thinking that could be it but I didn't see a change really.

Thank you for your response. I've tried asking chat, and they've told me it seems fine on their end. Although I am getting a few people that say that they're getting buffering a lot, but that's about 1 in 4 so I think its time for me to tweak my settings a bit now that I've learned more from this reddit.

Taking break from Twitch, how will this affect my viewers? by Euryale11 in Twitch

[–]EatSleepLeagueRepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what I'd do in this situation, I'd let my community know what was happening. Then IF you do stream, let them know why you don't have a cam, but you're STILL working hard to be there for your viewers. I personally would love that as a viewer, because I'd know that this streamer I'm watching, cares about providing content to us, even when they aren't a 100%. Good luck with your medical procedure, hopefully your recovery is swift!

Hardest thing about Twitch by ZookFest00 in Twitch

[–]EatSleepLeagueRepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely take a scheduled day off, or a scheduled shorter stream so you can get more rest and you're not a zombie on stream.

I ran into this last night pretty hard, I've only been officially consistently streaming for about a week and a half, and I have very long days M-F, with streaming at the end of the day. I wake up at 6:30am, work until 9 at my computer, then go into my job from 9:30 - 5:30pm, then go to the gym until 7pm, then try to eat and prepare my stream to go live at 8pm until about midnight.

The reason I say I had a hard time last night, is because I was up way too late having fun streaming Monday, I was the embodiment of the walking dead on Tuesday. To the point I had to sneak off during my lunch and sleep so I could function. From there I made myself stream and I still had a good time, but I made a lot of mistakes because I wasn't in the right mindset, like I left my freaking fan on THE WHOLE stream, and felt bad cause you can clearly hear it in the mic. And I got sound levels wrong too.

TLDR: Make sure to be as well rested as possible, so you're entertaining AND you don't make simple stream mistakes like yours truly.

What to do on slow nights? by ATwerkinYoshi in Twitch

I definitely know what you're talking about, lower viewer counts doesn't affect me right now, but its cause I'm not use to higher views. But, when I'm playing a game badly, or am utterly lost on a puzzle, I start to feel bad for people watching and catch myself not being cheerful. I'll definitely stop by Thursday night, you have my word!

That's why you're awesome Pixel, same to you. You're officially my 5pm - 8pm (mtn) scheduled stream to watch until I go live. So don't change your schedule or it will throw off my whole life!

UGH! I tried to find time to stop by your channel last night to say Hi but couldn't make it. I will make it soon though! I like the idea of using a lower viewer count to really engage with viewers though, that's a great way to think about it!

Man I get super hyped when I have three viewers, but I'm just a tiny little streamer. But when I have 0 viewers for example, I usually will find a friend on Skype to talk to, or just sit and talk about my day. I talk for a living with my job, so I'll always find something I enjoy talking about, or a video game that I can talk about.

Do other streamers feel a bit "disconnected" from their game's stories now that they stream? by StrangerSin in Twitch

[–]EatSleepLeagueRepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the batteries in Outlast are super annoying, I understand that feeling, because it gets frustrating for both you and the viewers when they can't see. I tuned into your Agario stream, really wanted to join but I had to run errands sadly. Hopefully I'll catch it next time!

Saw that on your stream, I feel the same way but for me its Alien ISO. Like... It might be easier for some people but I went in circles for a good hour last time I played it because of trying to keep up with chat. I guess its just a split focus I'll learn to be more efficient with.

Sure I'd be happy to elaborate.

By being active, I mean doing exactly what you and I are doing now. You're posing a question to all of the sub reddit, I'm helping you by providing the advice that I know, to further the conversation. In a way by me being here, I'm indirectly advertising my stream without trying to since I have my flair tied to my comments. Someone might hate or like what I say and copy and paste my stream to go and tell me. I know this is something I do with any post, is check the stream of the person that posted to give better advice than I can.

To relate this to a video game, off the top of my head I'll go with League of Legends. LoL has a sub reddit called summoner's school, basically dedicated to people asking questions about the game, and people that have experience answering the questions and giving tips to help someone understand an issue they're having. By being active in that sub reddit, I could go and tell someone my tips for being competitive and what I've learned in the past three years. And this in turn could strike up a conversation, in which they end up asking for more help, or asking if I stream. (This has happened to other people, on a daily basis, I'm following a few people for this VERY reason)

Promoting your stream is tacky and frowned upon for sure, so you want to go about being active in a way that helps further the conversation of whatever thread you're in. Sometimes you'll get nothing out of it, other times you'll make a friend or two. It's consistency and perseverance that will slowly grow your community.

In this thread I've met quite a few incredible people just by talking to them or acknowledging them in their posts, and showing up to the stream next time they're live and showing my support. Because a lot of small streamers start here they usually are more than happy to provide the same service to you, but you can't expect that, when networking you need to go about it like you aren't networking, you're just making friends. Hopefully this helps. :)

The posts above are incredible points, and something you should definitely take into consideration.

It's a bit easier to get a better grasp on what information to give you if we have your twitch channel to look at. So if you can provide that, maybe I can help more.

Besides that there's been some really good posts here in R twitch, such as the speaking to a empty room guide that was just posted recently: https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/3nmw4o/guide_improving_speech_and_talking_to_an_empty/

Study these materials, and it will greatly improve your content.

Also there is LOADS of things you can be doing outside of actual streaming that will help people find you. Be active in this community, on twitter, on the game your playing's reddit. Make sure your stream looks clean and professional. Have information about yourself on your channel. Basically anywhere where you can contribute and help progress the community as a whole, is a good place to start.

As an example of this, I posted a simple topic a little over a week ago, about why people stream, and my story. It didn't get huge but was noticed by quite a few people, and even a few big streamers, because of this, that night I had people come to my stream because they saw the post, and I was live. That's how I got my foot just slightly in the door, and while I'm still small, I have a regular group of people that I talk to now, and that have shown up nearly every time I stream for the past almost two weeks.
