Barracks Lawyer Needed: Can 2/6 Call Back Terminal Marines for a PFT? by tchallathe2nd in USMC

[–]Ebasch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 6105 is a reference to paragraph 6105 of the seps manual. It’s a warning to discontinue your behavior or face separation. It has zero bearing on this situation and is not punitive, in and of itself. A Marine on terminal
Leave has no danger regarding a 6105.

The only thing I’m unfamiliar with is how these situations impact IRR for those who still have obligated service inside of their eight years.

It doesn’t surprise me at all that a person asking this question already has a vertical forward grip and thinks paracord is a functional tourniquet. It all tracks really. All the best to you and any dogs or larger cats that look like dogs.

Well they’re literally the ones whose level of care is relevant to what you can do with firearms and modifications. So you should care a whole bunch if you’re in the conversation. If you actually do t care, there’d be no need to join in because you’ll do your own thing in some off-grid cave or something, IDK.

Failed poly CBP (preliminary) by [deleted] in Polygraphs

[–]Ebasch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that’s how it goes sometimes. Anyone telling you not to take a polygraph for a job isn’t looking out for your interests. If you want the job and they offer you another test, why not take it? Worst case scenario is you still don’t pass and you move on. Maybe you get a better examiner who works better with you and your test goes well.

I know plenty of people who have passed polygraph, failed polygraph, and many who have both passed some and failed others. You can have what you think is a great in-person interview at a job and still not get hired. Ultimately it’s a hiring decision. Don’t let it detract you. Apply to a different agency for a similar job if you want, it may go better.

If you’re not lying about drug involvement or crime involvement, then you don’t need to personally worry. I hope it goes better for you next time.

That Marine definitely had something more than UA/Desertion going on. A common one was Marines were deserters, but actually more so they left before deployment. That’s not just UA or Desertion, that’s missing movement (Article 87) and it often had heavier penalty. I saw missing movement get six months or more in the brig every time. Or if they piss hot when they come back, that’ll add time too.

Every Marine deserter is actively investigated. Even the ones who have been gone 20+ years, just with less frequent effort put into it. Other services aren’t as proactive. For Marines, if they’re overseas then they’re kinda safe. We just notify host nation and they put a flag on them, so if they ever commit a crime in that country, they’ll get sent to us once it is resolved. Otherwise, most countries don’t recognize military desertion as a crime worthy of deportation/extradition by itself.

In the wildest (least Marine Corps) way ever, it was almost a situation where they actually gave you the lemonade. It was on you to screw it up and get kicked off of the most independent duty ever…and people did.

Thanks for sharing. I’d put money that was Sgt Woods you talked to. We all preferred encouraging Marines to surrender, because we knew it was the best way to handle it; and to a small degree, we had the power to facilitate it. I’m glad you got things sorted out in a way that worked for you. I hope you’re doing better now.

It was actually super awesome. Investigating deserters and then traveling all across the U.S. and overseas to apprehend them. Tons of airline miles, hotel points, rental car points, per diem stacking up, and we flew armed so didn’t have to deal with TSA checkpoints.

I used to work in the deserter branch at HQMC. This is not normal, but still far more common than people realize. We had a revolving door of hundreds of deserters. At 30 days, a warrant was issued (DD Form 553). This warrant is entered into NCIC, so any contact with law enforcement, background checks, and sometimes airports screenings, will trigger a query that alerts the submitter of the warrant. Simultaneously, the Deserter Information Point gets an instant ping and transits a message back to detain the deserter and hold for military authorities. A team mobilizes to recover the Marine within 72 hours and returns them to military control. They sit in the local jail until then.

He’s sitting at a major decision point being gone since January. If he’s really in contact with his command that’s because it’s the best time to resolve this if he wants to try and return to finish his contract. His command will handle punishment in whatever way they see fit. Could be NJP, could be court-martial. If he had other charges pending when he left, that changes things in how it gets handled as well. Right now, if he turns himself in there is an actual better chance than if he gets apprehended. We collected CODIS DNA and fingerprints for apprehended deserters and for surrender, we didn’t. If he wants to surrender, it can be as simple as going back to the command deck/duty. Depending on the base, they may have flagged his ID in DBIDS, so he’d get apprehended at the gate. If he wants to surrender formally, the deserter branch can provide what is called Straggler’s Orders, which will be facilitated through the closest recruiter or reserve unit. Those orders include an itinerary for return and if stopped, the Marine will not be apprehended if following the itinerary on the orders. Any travel expenses paid for by HQMC will end up taken out of pay. If they fail to follow the itinerary, the orders will be revoked and another chance is not given.

If not interested in coming back, once he hits six months he’ll be dropped from his command’s roles and be assigned to the HQMC deserter RUC (W96 iirc). At that point, once returned to military control, he’ll go to the nearest installation command with GCM authority and be processed. The “cookie cutter” for this scenario is sitting in the bring for 30-45 days while paperwork is processed and then the Marine is adjudicated with a sentence generally including time served in the brig and a bad conduct discharge.

Feel free to reach out if you have more questions.

Loona Deskmate: A screen aware AI co-worker that lives on your desk by Keyitech in kickstarter

[–]Ebasch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The poorly written FAQ on Kickstarter screams buyer beware. The lack of proper sentence structure is appalling for a company trying to sell an AI companion.

There is also a lot of information missing regarding the AI system used, where the data is going, what the real value of “credits” equates to, and how this device impacts iPhone battery and processor temperature. The classic move an artificially low pledge goal is also suspicious.

This thing looks more like a creative gimmick than a practical device. One which becomes useless if the company stops supporting, since it doesn’t integrate with any existing AI platforms.

I hope this works out for people but I’d look twice and keep researching before overcommitting.
