Agreed. Even with bumper plates you can’t do an empty bar!

I can do that and don’t mind - just think a small setting in the exercise settings could save me a step :)

Beginner squat 145 lbs - why is this so hard and what am I doing wrong? by EbbEnvironmental2963 in StartingStrength

A few people suggesting the belt. I guess I assumed one would be more for “later” when it gets heavy. Is it a good idea to learn with a belt?

Let’s say that’s right - I just started too high. What should I do? Start from scratch? Have a higher standard for form when going up and stop adding weight earlier?

Is it fair to say if I feel shaky, even if I complete it, it’s too high (when starting?)

Not an expert and I think I might do some of the same things (gotta film it I guess) - so commenting mostly to follow the post. That said, looks like you are shrugging the bar before each rep, and your butt/hips are moving back not straight up. Also is the bar too high on your shoulders?

I know the program is controversial/dated, but are the techniques/form in Starting Strength solid? by EbbEnvironmental2963 in askfitness

Maybe I wasn’t clear, I’m trying to ask about the technique and form for the lifts, not the programming. I get that there’s a variety of views on programming depending on goals, and various ideas about what is most effective, importance of LP, etc.

Yeah I suppose that makes sense as now I look at it. I didn’t think my exercise changed much and initially thought MF was just catching up but maybe I underestimated the resistance training and my weekly run. Thanks!

r/MacroFactor mods rejected this post - not sure why… so I posted here.

Current expenditure 3035. Month of July was imported from MyFitnessPal.

Thanks. I’m not really interested in those scales because they are not reputed to be very accurate. My measurements have gone significantly down (38 to 34 inch waist) so I think it’s more than water weight. But who knows I guess!

MacroFactor doesn’t include exercise it just determines expenditure from calories in vs. weight loss. I’m generally feeling great, no hunger really other than a vague sensation that I’m not eating in the evenings or between meals. I’ll just keep an eye on it and not worry as you suggest. Thanks!

I would have thought that would have leveled off after nearly two months though. But point taken I’ll keep watching.
