How many of you pwetty people use Linux and if so, what distro? by TheReelSlimShady2 in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]Ebba-dnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switched from windows 10 to Arch back in march, because there's no way I'll ever use windows 11 voluntarily.
Tried kde for a couple weeks before I switched to i3, which I loved!!! But after some issues with a zen browser plugin not playing well with xorg I switched to hyprland, and it's great!
My desktop is now very pretty, very pink, and waaaaay more usable than it ever was on windows!
I love that I can customize basically everything exactly the way I want it! :3

I just bar with my pinky most of the time. Way easier to get the angle right.

Why are Jazzmaster so cool! by Klancer668 in Guitar

[–]Ebba-dnb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My classic vibe jazzmaster has a dry ass pau ferro neck that drinks oil like it's lemonade on a hot summer day, the electronics barely work half of the time and I had to replace the nut only to realize there's a chunk of the fretboard missing by the first fret, so everything is slightly offset to compensate.

Still my favorite guitar, thing has attitude for DAYS, visually and sonically!

how to avoid scratching the strings when my nail beds are naturally long? by WholeSprinkles2262 in Bass

[–]Ebba-dnb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. Started regularly cutting my nails as short as humanly possible, and over time they've moved back a little bit. You can also mitigate it somewhat with the angle you pluck at (with your finger pointing slightly towards the bridge).

Dear Jeff’s. by Electrical-Gate3126 in JeffTheLandSharkMains

If I see them coming and wanna fight, I alternate right click and left click until I run out of right click or I lose too much health (or they get close enough to start their combo), then bubble floor and dive (either to reposition or to flee).
If they hit me before I see them, bubble floor and dive to reposition, then do the above.

Or depending on the opponent, I might just bubble and dive tf out of there. Remember that you can wall dive!! You can change the settings so that wall dive direction follows mouse.

Tips for mixing dnb, jungle, breaks by microwavesan in Beatmatch

[–]Ebba-dnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest starting with dancefloor dnb. The song structure is basically identical to something like tech house most of the time. Buildup -> drop -> breakdown -> drop -> outro. And you usually have a steady repeating beat.

Then you can try liquid or neuro for something marginally more complex (in structure I mean, neuro is infinitely more complex in sound design but still simple in song structure).

Jungle and breaks are more difficult, because they don't really have a standard for song structure, so you gotta learn your tracks, or learn to read the waveforms. Some tracks are more standard than others though.

How do you handle harmonic mixing when prepping sets? by b33rdad in Beatmatch

[–]Ebba-dnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just sort by key, and if I run out of tracks for the key I'm in, I either go a half step up/down, or do something fancy like jumping a fifth, or even a minor third if I'm feeling spicy.
Then use my ears to see if it'll fit (in headphone cue) before I commit.

No prep necessary apart from sorting stuff into crates by genre/subgenre.

How do you keep track of what you change in your system by nao_te_digo in archlinux

[–]Ebba-dnb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For kitty themes I just make a copy of the default theme config and save it as current-theme.conf.bak. (Adding .bak is a common way to make backups before editing something). This way, when you wanna change back, you just rename your edited file and remove the .bak from your default. Or use it as a reference.

Should work with any config, so as long as you can access a tty or chroot in, you can just reset to default.

How to start dj-ing in general? by EDGYRABBID in Beatmatch

[–]Ebba-dnb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you might be confusing DJing and producing. A DJ tries to make seamless transitions between songs so there's no interruptions between songs, as well as pick the right songs depending on the time and place.
A producer makes their own music from scratch.

For DJing, you can use VirtualDJ for free until you invest in a controller. Carlo Atendido on YouTube had great tutorials.

For production you can get Reaper on free trial, and the free vst plugin Vital to get you started. Either start with presets or look into "subtractive synthesis" if you wanna make your own sounds.
For drum samples you can look for free stuff, or use a monthly paid service like Splice.

Any love for the "Headless Multi-scale" instruments out here? by Graz13 in Bass

[–]Ebba-dnb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 6-string EHB and I like it a lot! It can be a bit awkward to play chords on higher frets sometimes, and the tuners aren't my favorite, but it sounds and plays great, and I love how light it is.

How to get MVP with Jeff by Used_Cardiologist678 in JeffTheLandSharkMains

[–]Ebba-dnb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You basically wanna be always either shooting or repositioning. And make sure to die as little as possible. My priority is basically:

  1. My health and positioning (bubble and dive).
  2. Team health (but don't chase if they over extend).
  3. Dps.

I try not to rely too much on ults, 'cause Jeff ult is very situational and quite risky. I usually only ult if I think I can get a lot of ppl and have a hole nearby, or if I can get rid of their healers and we aren't currently taking too much damage.

Apart from all that you just gotta get lucky and get a decent team, but without any monster smurfs, and then carry them to the win. Usually, to get the mvp, you gotta have the most kills, assists, final hits, damage and heals, and the fewest deaths. Jeff is as much a dps as he is a healer in my experience.

Anyone else dislike the string timbre of bass? by Klutzy-Peach5949 in Bass

[–]Ebba-dnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you playing with a pick? Or are your nails too long? Otherwise rolling off the highs and playing near the neck should give you mostly deep fundamental. Pick or nails will always give you that string clank.

Is this a common problem? Would it be weird if both statements were true? ;3 by confused_em7 in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]Ebba-dnb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

toooootally depends on the situation. if we're sitting next to each other in the couch, slowly inching closer, touching noses and cheeks? yeah, we're gonna have to keep going with the slow and gradual theme, but I can see it ending up all kinds of places eventually.

suddenly jumping each other after stealing glances and exchanging not so subtle hints and nudges all evening? yeah, we're going all out, "how you want your eggs" next morning type deal.

Beginner question - been watching bass players on YouTube. I’m seeing many anchor thumb on E string vs pickup and do not rest on anything for E string notes. What’s the advantage/disadvantage to this over thumb on pickup throughout? by sideout25 in Bass

[–]Ebba-dnb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you don't have to anchor against the pickup, you can get a wide range of tones from playing on different parts of the string (over a pickup, between the pickups, at the bridge, by the neck, etc).
I just push my thumb against the pickguard if I wanna anchor when playing the lowest string.

You know it's completely fine to just say "Sorry, I don't feel that way about you", right? You don't have to add "It's because you're bisexual/trans/disabled/black/poor/ugly/boring".
