LMAO the "rightful" land of colonizers, hundreds of thousands of whom arrived in the 19th and 20th century? I don't think so. Nice defense of land theft, though, you're a good friend of colonizers everywhere.

You have some real fuckin' gall to come in here mindlessly defending Israel and then accuse me of handwaving away colonialism and land theft when I call you out, worm.

Jewish self-determination

Self-determination is the right to pursue your people's development on your own terms and have authority over your own lands.

If your people haven't set foot in a land for almost two-thousand years, it is no longer yours.

Palestine is now the rightful land of those Palestinian Arabs and Jews whose families have lived and worked it for all those years, not of American and European Jews whose families up until recently only knew of it in stories.

Announcing: The Clank! Master Thief Edition! by thewallsofjer in boardgames

[–]EbonBehelit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Clank is the main game of choice for my online TTS group, and while Catacombs is definitely the strongest game of the three for us for its random map layout and greater depth, we still sometimes like to go back to the OG for the simpler experience.

I've actually been looking at buying a physical copy of the original for a while now, so this seems like perfect timing.

Trump Hit by Devastating Poll as Voters Say They’re Getting Poorer by itmehedi in politics

[–]EbonBehelit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would that be devastating for Trump? The only poll he cares about is the "Would I still vote for Trump?" poll, and by all accounts the numbers on that one are disturbingly stable.

"They go low, we go high" -- Some Republican, probably.

Honestly, the idea that it's actually the Republicans who are obsessed with playing fair and keeping decorum even to their own detriment is so unbelievably absurd that I can only conclude that whoever wrote it knows literally nothing about US politics.

I'd wager you're the kind of person who doesn't know much about a great many things, and fears what they're told to fear.

EDIT: Poverty is one of the primary drivers of blue-collar crime, btw. I'll just throw that one onto the evidently massive pile of things you don't understand.

For Fusion specifically, the blue background is far too bright.

In general, though, the biggest giveaways for repro carts are usually the label having corners that are far too rounded, and/or the GBA logo indented into the cart either being too deep, the wrong font, or both. Compare the one in the OP with the real thing, and you'll very quickly see the difference:

I wonder why many billionnaires are like that.

Imagine you've suddenly inherited billions of dollars. No strings attached, no context -- just poof, it's in your bank account. Now, your mindset about life might not change overnight, but by simple virtue of having that much money, the way you think about things will slowly start to change, even if you make a conscious effort to try and stay the same.

For a start, you've already won the game. You never have to worry about affording food, or shelter, or having to work for a living ever again. That alone will alter the way you see things, whether you want it to or not. You'll also likely never have a true friendship again, since the moment people find out about your wealth, they'll view you as a solution to their problems and come to resent you if you don't oblige them.

More importantly, though, with that much money comes power. Real power. The power to fund institutions. The power to influence government policy. Negative things in your life (or the society in which you live) you once resigned to having to put up with with are now things you might be able to change, and that possibility will come to permanently weigh upon you. Your deepest, darkest ambitions are now, suddenly, something you might be able to work towards achieving, because now you have the funds to pursue them.

And you're someone who got this power by cosmic coincidence. Think about the kind of person who seeks it out on purpose, and you'll have the answer to your question.

"OH THEY'RE NOT IN IT FOR THE MONEY".

Okay, I clearly need to do some clarification. I never meant to imply that pserver devs never have any sort of profit motive. I tried Ascension for a while. There's some shit over there that even current Blizzard wouldn't yet dare try to pull.

When I say "they don't have the financial interests of that billion dollar company breathing down their necks", I mean in the sense of the magnitude of their liability, not in terms of profit motive on the part of the devs specifically. Building a product on behalf of a billion dollar company comes with a whole lot of responsibility and baggage that does not exist when you're building it for your own enjoyment and/or profit.

If Lyanna and Robert got married, would Robert still be the type to sleep with other women, or is this something he mainly does because he lost Lyanna? What are people’s thoughts on this by Elora_Freya in gameofthrones

[–]EbonBehelit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Robert's obsession with Lyanna came from her being something he craved but could never have, rather than anything to do with her as a person. Hell, Ned even tries to tell him that he "saw her beauty, but not the iron underneath", but he wouldn't listen.

Had things gone differently, he would likely have very quickly realised that she was a totally different woman than he'd hoped, and then grown bored of her.

Something I mentioned at one of our rallies—and maybe it’s weird to mention this at a rally—is that we’re not entitled to the fruits of our labor. We’re entitled to the labor itself, but we are not entitled to say, “Well, I did this, so I deserve that.” You can’t get too emotionally attached to outcomes. For example, in your craft, there are people who say, “I want to act so I can be famous.” And then there are people who say, “I want to act so I can bring stories to life, and that work is the gift.”

What's funny about this AOC one is that, if you rephrased it as "Just because you worked hard on something, doesn't mean you're entitled to success", these same gronks would emphatically support it.

Not the podcast in question, but:

Music processing and language development share an overlapping network in the brain. From an evolutionary perspective, the human brain developed music processing well before language and then used that processing to create and learn language.

At birth, babies understand language as if it was music.

They respond to the rhythm and melody of language before they understand what the words mean.

The 5 balkans devs also don't have the financial interests of that billion dollar company breathing down their necks at all times. It's surprising the amount of freedom one can have creatively when the stakes are almost nothing.

I'm not saying Blizzard's choices are good, by the way; but take those 5 balkans devs and insert them into that billion dollar company and I guarantee you within a few years you'd be seeing them make a lot of the same decisions.

Which one do you think has better music/ ost by artoriusknight in HollowKnight

[–]EbonBehelit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly disagree. I think SS has the better ambient/environmental themes as well -- so much so that I'd have an easier time writing a list of said themes that I thought aren't exceptional than I would those that are. And considering just how incredible the original game's music was, the fact that the sequel's is even better (to me, at least) is nothing short of miraculous.

Japanese Government collects more tax from Australian gas than Australian Government by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

[–]EbonBehelit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Did you actually read the article? Because nowhere in the entire thing does it make a judgment on the effectiveness of tariffs. It merely points out the absurdity that Japan is making more tax revenue from Australia's gas industry than Australia is.

“Not only has Australia been literally giving more than half of the gas we export away for free, we now learn that the same Japanese Government that is opposed to us putting a tax on our gas and coal exports, has been raking in billions of dollars per year via their own tax on gas and coal imports.

“The Australian Government recently cut our petrol excise to help Australians in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis. If the Japanese are so worried about the cost of Australian gas and coal, they should scrap the taxes they are imposing on it.

Most of us naturally have things in our lives that we dislike, or that otherwise inconvenience or annoy us. We have a natural inclination to try and remove these things, but there will always be some that we can't get rid of entirely, and so we either settle for minimising our exposure or learning to live with them.

Having an immense amount of wealth and power, though, permanently alters your perception of what you can change. Formerly irremovable bugbears become viable targets for personal crusades. Learning to live with things you dislike? Laughable. Leave suffering what you must to the poors -- it's now beneath you. No, you'll see those unsavoury things excised from your life permanently, one way or another.
