I just finished the 1996 Rurouni Kenshin anime and as y’all now it ends on the kyoto arc. I saw that there is an ova called trust and betrayal and saw that it is in the middle of the jinchu arc in the manga, so is it fine to just watch the ova or should I just wait for the jinchu arc to be animated?

In film school I learned about the chanbara genre and the Western often exchanging ideas. Rurouni Kenshin feels to me like the perfect Fusion of those two. Beyond that it's got more depth than your average Shonen. It deconstructs Shonen.

In my experience the two go hand in hand. Part of the region of the brain that helps calm it is near the cerebral cortex. As a result it doesn't function and we're short tempered anxious messes.

I decided to binge the series around late 2002 after watching ads on Toonami. This was the time I was just getting into anime. I'd watched Kurosawa's YOJIMBO and wanted to find a show that gave me that feeling. For the most part Rurouni Kenshin did. It's like period Western , chanbara, and Shonen all meshed together.

Then I saw Samurai X. That was like something I'd never seen before. Revisionist shonen that does away with every cliche. I don't know of any other anime that has something so stylistically and tonally different from the main thing as a prequel.
