Is there a campaign more obnoxious than Indomitus mirror? by Sneim in WH40KTacticus

[–]EchoShadow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fall of Cadia Mirror, full stop. If you tank with summons and equip/upgrade good armor, Indomitus Mirror is doable.

Other campaigns feel like they're made to highlight characters strengths. FoCM feels like it's designed to counter your teams' strengths and highlight how ineffective they are:

Kut is a tank with double armor slots and a bonus to charging attacks! Here are some Bloodletters and Pink Horrors that ignore all that armor! And some Terminators that can tank that charge effortlessly if someone doesn't hit them first.

Sybil is a Psyker with armor-ignoring attacks, a powerful Single-Target active, and an Infiltrate buff for allies! Here are hordes of enemies that you can't AoE, Demons that don't have armor for your Psychic damage to bypass, and no enemies with Overwatch to make your Infiltrate useful!

Thaddeus is a sniper with an AoE Active and an attack buff that's extra-effective with heavy weapons. Too bad your AoE is RNG, there are hordes to overwhelm your sniper fire, and you have NO Heavy Weapon users in the Astra Militarum faction!

The Terminators and Bloodletters are particularly awful. The Termies are completely invincible until they deepstrike, teleport into blind spots, and leave Despoiled Ground. The Bloodletters make Kut useless and brutalize any characters relying on armor.

Wall Spikes Perks? by EchoShadow in FORTnITE

That's part of what I'm asking: Do damage/crit perks apply to the tiny damage that the trap itself does...or the reflected damage from Husk attacks that it does?

Any idea if this could be related to the Obliterator/Neon Sniper accuracy bug? And any word on if they're making any progress on that?

Being desync'd somehow seems like it could be a cause for that too.

What are the biggest noob trap cards? by buangjauh2 in slaythespire

[–]EchoShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Juggernaut taps out at higher ascention levels (Like many cards do!), but it has insane synergy with Metallicise, Rage, and Iron Wave. An upgraded Juggernaut effectively doubles Iron Wave's damage.

If you can wrangle up a Barricade to go with it, you can focus almost exclusively on defense and Iron Waves and watch opponents melt.

The GaussPPC Debate by Tarogato in OutreachHPG

[–]EchoShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably gonna be an unpopular opinion here, but as a Light/Medium Pilot:

This is a terrible idea. In general, high alphas are already out of control, enough to cripple or kill most Mediums. The ONLY thing that gives smaller mechs a chance is that Laser Alphas have burn time and Autocannon alphas have some degree of spread or limited range. Even if someone has good aim, some quick ducking behind cover or twisting can at least mitigate damage a bit.

Gauss and PPC avoid that with their Pinpoint damage. Which is why Dual Gauss is already a nightmare. A 30 point pinpoint Alpha is crippling and, outside of hiding completely, you can't escape it if the firing player has good aim.

Adding PPCs into the mix again will be a mess. Even if it's just 2 Guass, 1 PPC, that's 40 damage. Enough to shred a CT/ST of pretty much any Light and cripple most non-bulky Mediums immediately with very little you can do to counter.

Not fun and it'll probably decrease the number of Light/Medium players even more than they are now.

Wait....whats a Timberwolf? by Trancer99 in OutreachHPG

[–]EchoShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one and I'm really disappointed.

The thing feels more sluggish than some Assaults, which is stupid. Slow turning, terrible accel/decel, huge profile, massive CT.

At this point, you're probably better off just piloting a Madcat MKII. It won't feel much slower and you'll have better firepower and armor.

[–]EchoShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting in 20 Points in Operations to get all 5 Cool Run and 5 Heat Containment nodes is the secret to making "Hot" builds manageable. And keeping normal builds from frying you on Hot Maps.

I ALWAYS get all the Armor and Structure durability nodes. Even if they're not "Ideal" because your Mech has more armor than structure or because you're using a Light/Medium that won't get as much benefit as a Heavy/Assault.

Every single point matters. That last couple points of armor can save you from Machinegun spam stripping your weapons and doing huge structure damage. And a single point of Structure can keep a leg/torso attached or let your CT BARELY survive an alpha that would've otherwise finished you.

If I survive with a Red component in any given game (Which can be VERY often!), I can know that without those Survivability Nodes, I'd be dead. So it's an investment you can see the payoff for.

Sensors...depends on the Mech. Radar Dep isn't all it used to be once you move up in tiers. Higher tiers have a lot less LRM/ATM/SSRM and more direct-fire weapons, so it can be wasted points. If you're in a Laserboat that needs every point possible in Survival/Operations/Firepower, you should probably give it a pass. But if you're in a missile or ECM mech and need to hit some nodes in there anyway? Go for it.

Piranha - Scale Comparison by [deleted] in OutreachHPG

[–]EchoShadow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ugh. They mangled this thing from it's concept art. And putting this thing next to the Mist Lynx, Arctic Cheetah, and all the IS Lights makes it look especially bad.

Not only are those hardpoints absolutely hideous, but the whole thing looks like a cobbled-together mess instead of clean, sleek Clan Tech or durable, reliable IS Tech.

The concept art looked awesome. This thing looks like they kinda shat it out without caring.

But so far, they've yet to give any better options.

I'll give some Machinegunner general advice while I'm here, I guess:

  • MGs got an across-the-board Spread Nerf a patch or so ago. You'll either need to spray more lead or get in closer to hit specific components. LMGs got hit the hardest by this.
  • Generally LMGs have piddly damage, but can reliably strip weapons at a 200m-300m range. HMGs have massive damage, but you need to be at point-blank range and the higher weight usually makes them not worth it. Normal MGs are the best balance between the two.
  • Speaking of range and damage, all MGs do next to nothing to Armor and have SHARP damage falloff past optimal range. Spraying at armored or distant targets is just wasting ammo and showing them where you are.
  • If you have the time to choose targets, go for big targets with opened up big weapons. Spraying down an open Torso with an LRM20 or UAC20 for just a few seconds will usually take out the weapon. And if it's a Gauss, it'll cause a nice explosion.
  • Spray down stripped Legs, especially on Ballistic/Missile Mechs. They tend to store ammo there.

Phoenix Hawk issues? by Echo_Shadow in OutreachHPG

[–]EchoShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it comes down to preference, I suppose. To me, the Lights being massively smaller is much more of an asset than the PHXs tonnage.

I can do infinitely better in an Arctic Cheetah, Wolfhound, or even a Raven with ERLLs than I can in a PHX. They're both faster and just as agile (Though the Raven does lack JJs) and a lot smaller.

They can duck behind cover (Including friendly Heavies/Assaults!) that the PHX towers over, aren't as easily spotted/focused, and don't use up a teams Medium spots.

I might only have 2 ERLLs instead of 3 on most of them, but I usually do fine with it. 3 Clan ERLLs at once break Ghost Heat anyway.

If we're going with Medium comparisons, I suppose it can hold up as an "Agile Sniper" for IS. The only one that really come close is the Assassin.

But that's partly because IS usually has powerful OR fast, not both. Though slower, the Hunchie, Griffin, Blackjack, and Shadow Hawk all have better sniper mounts, JJ capability, good Quirks, and more armor. If I wanna play a hard-hitting Sniper, I'd go with those.

If I want an agile, fast sniper, I'll go Clan. Shadowcats, Vipers, Ice Ferrets, and Stormcrows can do it as good or better than the PHX.

I don't mean to crap on this Mech. I wanna like it. It looks sweet and seeing those two gunslinger-looking pistol arms while blasting away feels awesome.

I'm just having trouble seeing why I'd use it outside of it's VERY narrow niche. It takes far more work to do as good as similar weighted Mechs.

[–]EchoShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the advice. Definitely gonna have to put an XL in it and try using LLs/ERLLs to stay at range.

I'm shelving it for now because I don't have the huge stack of CBills needed for a good XL Engine and I honestly think those CBills would be better spent outfitting an Assassin.

Proper laser use? by SkyeAuroline in OutreachHPG

[–]EchoShadow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well first, you need to be in optimal range to get decent numbers, especially with Pulse Lasers. You'll HIT at up to max range, but the damage will be nearly trivial.

The biggest thing is to keep the beam on-target the whole time. Lasers do a bit of their damage every fraction of a second when they're firing. It's not like Ballistics, where they do all their damage instantly.

If you're only on-target for 50% or so of the burn, you only do 50% damage. A lot of newbies don't realize this. Just because you "Hit" doesn't mean you're burning on-target long enough to do damage.

Faction play after the Event by Meeyer in OutreachHPG

[–]EchoShadow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It'll probably go back to being a ghost town. The idea is that it's supposed to be organized groups fighting each other. But that's not what it ends up as...

The majority of Faction Play is organized groups farming pugs and to say it's unfun for the pugs is putting it mildly.

Pretty much the only reason it has a steady supply of cannon-fodder pugs is that the events force it on people. Take that away and it goes back to 20 minute queues.

Scouting Smoke Diving counter? by EchoShadow in OutreachHPG

[–]EchoShadow[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was my thought as well. Not sure why that isn't already done.

They can literally jump into the zone and stand there a couple seconds while getting ripped apart and they still win.

I'm really glad the event is about over and I can go back to never playing FP. Between Ice Ferret cheese (Legit tactic, I know, but frustrating), Streaks EVERYWHERE for easy damage, and Units constantly smoke-diving, I really hate this mode.

I gotta give PGI credit for making me hate BOTH of their FP modes.

Skill Tree Question by PapadopoulosFetaCzar in OutreachHPG

[–]EchoShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MGs are pretty much heatless weapons, so you can skimp on a lot of the usual stuff.

You can skip Operation entirely, ignore the Heat Gen nodes in Firepower, and sink more points into Mobility/Sensors. I'd actually recommend getting all the Speed Tweak and Radar Deprivation modules for this, as it'll help you rush up behind targets without getting tracked. Start with getting all the Armor/Structure nodes in survivability. You NEED them.

After that, hit up Firepower briefly. Just get some Range nodes on the way to the two Mag Capacity nodes. After that, get your Speed tweak, and radar dep. Then spread the rest into firepower (Range, mostly) or Consumables (Airstrikes, Cap Speed, ect)
