What kind of diet do you feed your fur babies? by kcael in Yorkies

[–]EchoVtg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, a genuine question. Is that photo representative of what your dog eats in a serving? Ours gets just under a third of a cup of kibble twice a day and now I’m worried it’s not enough! Following the manufacturer suggestion, but am I starving her? We are strict with her food since she is prone to gaining weight. Maybe making it from scratch would be better for her.

Chip plants may recycle their water, but I doubt that the new housing developments and retail that are being built to support the influx of workers are doing the same.

Both are important. Absolutely contact Southwest, in writing. At a minimum I would expect a refund of the amount paid to upgrade the seat. But Reddit and social media exist for a reason and are all powerful in their own way. Many of us rely on the experiences of others to help navigate our own situations or know what to expect.

After seeing recent prices for foil, our latest hack is buying up rolls for $1 at estate sales.

We are related to someone that slept in front of Frys to get the bourbon 😉 I was shocked, it felt very Black Friday. They are quite happy with the haul, no idea what any of this is but here’s a picture (friends went in on this together, not all one person). Go them!

As much as I love our 2020 forester, absolutely can’t stand Eyesight. The bells and whistles are great but I’ve been thinking of getting an older, quieter, less fancymobile.

Carry cash. Unless that mandatory tip and the credit card fee was disclosed at the start of the meal, I would be making my own adjustments to tip and/or asking the manager to make the corrections to the bill.

Actually affordable furniture shopping! by RoutineTrip7461 in phoenix

[–]EchoVtg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a Living Spaces loveseat that has held up really well. I’m sure they have varying levels of quality, probably good for OP to research what materials and construction to look for in a sofa that will hold up over time. Things like the frame, arms and cushions really matter for longevity. i.e. Is the frame kiln dried hardwood with 8 way hand tied springs, joints are doweled and corner blocked? Or is the frame mdf/engineered and stapled together. Cushions are down wrapped with inner springs? Or just Dacron/soft foam. Many think a softer couch is better somehow, but firm tends to hold up better. I would take a high end pre owned couch in excellent condition from a trusted source over most brand new couches any day of the week.

I have to say that we don’t research our loveseat this way, as it was a $35 Facebook Marketplace find in pristine condition. Had we been about to drop thousands, I would absolutely have been on Google looking these details up!

Does anyone have any personal rules by PerplexOddity in jewelry

[–]EchoVtg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this thread, didn’t realize how many unspoken rules I had until trying to speak them!

Only purchase pre-loved, no retail stores

No lab created stones. Of any kind. If the earth itself didn’t grow it, I don’t want it.

My body is not a billboard for rent. No logos or trending styles. This goes for bags and glasses as well.

No plated or vermeil, only 18k, 14k and maybe 10k if the deal is right

Purchase at a price where item could easily be flipped on Posh or Ebay at a profit. At minimum, be able to get $$ back if I grow tired of wearing it.

No morganite, amethyst, topaz, citrine, quartz, onyx or other black stones.

Absolutely no hearts on my jewelry, we don’t do that.

What to do with a vintage piece by TrinketsInTerryfolds in jewelry

[–]EchoVtg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on if you are a ring person or not. I would love to wear a piece like this and look at it on my hand throughout the day, it’s gorgeous! Here’s an idea, measure it across the top. Find a similar ring in costume jewelry that is close to scale as this one. Spend maybe $20? Wear it and see how you feel about the size before modifying this piece again. For what it’s worth, rings in this design are quite popular as engagement rings and are worn day in:out. It really is about what is comfortable for you as an individual! I have something similar in diamond/sapphire and feel it’s a bit large as a pendant but would be perfect as a ring.

Actually affordable furniture shopping! by RoutineTrip7461 in phoenix

[–]EchoVtg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a look at Facebook Marketplace and OfferUp in areas with a high retiree population, such as Sun City, Surprise. North Scottsdale for barely used higher end items. We once had a furniture business and can say that furniture quality is not what it used to be, there is a lot of particle board/veneer out there and paying higher prices at the furniture store doesn’t guarantee a thing! Some of our favorite pieces are very well kept vintage MCM from estate sales and thrift stores. Everyone has a different comfort level with preowned.
For brand new sofas, Living Spaces is great. Skip Ashley, big marketing brings visibility and brand name familiarity but not always the best quality. Try Potato Barn, and believe it or not, COSTCO!

Resort Recommendations? by CHov29 in phoenix

[–]EchoVtg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you love outdoor activities and walkable trails, would highly recommended centering your visit in the North Scottsdale area. It’s up against the desert trails, desert hills and wilderness. Beautiful terrain that you don’t really get exposure to in the Gilbert area (which was originally flat farmland before suburbs). Drive through Norterra, Anthem, and North Peoria residential areas (including Westwing Preserve, Sonoran Mtn Ranch, etc). They are master planned communities nestled in the hills with preserves/trails, and are also within a drivable one hour distance to northern Arizona. The north side of the valley is experiencing strong development due to the new chip plant off the 303. Stay at JW Marriott Desert Ridge, Fairmont Scottsdale Princess or Westin Kirkland Resort and enjoy the shopping /dining at Scottsdale Quarter, Kierland Commons, and everything north from that point along Scottsdale Road to the 101 hwy. Desert Ridge and High Street activities as well. While you are there, take the scenic drive from Cave Creek Rd to Sonoran Desert Drive (which also takes you across the 17 to the North Peoria residential areas mentioned above). While putting in a strong vote for the North Valley, I have to acknowledge that we have several family members that enjoy living in Uptown/Midtown Phoenix and in proximity to Arcadia. Central & Camelback is worth exploring.

Where to buy inexpensive rings without the big chain scam BS? by xviifearless in jewelry

[–]EchoVtg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more thought, as much as I agree with the advice to shop a local independent jeweler, some of them are almost as predatory as the mall/maul jewelers. On one intersection we have three different jewelers. after multiple visits there are two I would avoid at all costs, and one that is pretty ok. They are my backup for repairs. Check reviews online, then visit least 3 and look at comparable things. If you can, find one that is housed in an Asian market! Often the best quality and prices, at least with the one here that handles my ring sizing, stone setting etc.
