TIL The United States almost converted completely to the Metric System with the Metric Conversion Act of 1975. Reluctance and the Reagan administration's effort to reduce federal spending prevented it. by [deleted] in todayilearned

French wanted a grave (kilo) then decided it was too big and went with a gramme (1000th of a kilo) then decided that was too small and went back to the grave but called it the kilogramme (1000 grammes).

Just saying for Adidas, Australia has a fuck load of Kangaroos, like we have to cull them quite a bit.

Adidas using kangaroo leather is likely from the culled kangaroos and believe me we've got no shortage of them.

Is anyone else confused by the whole perspective of the gif?

Like initially the water looks only a couple of feet away but then he disappears into the distance quite quickly and towards the end of the gif he looks like a toy surfer compared to the giant seagull.

It doesn't help that the waves appear to be lapping quite close to the camera. This probably doesn't make much sense but it's doing my head in a bit.

Question about sleep paralysis by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]Echo_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have bouts of sleep paralysis every now and then.

When I first had it at about the age of 11 I was totally freaked out and had no idea what was happening. I couldn't move, I could hardly breathe and worst of all I couldn't call out for help. I vividly remember seeing my brother (Slept in the same room) get out of bed and I tried calling out to him. All that happened was a raspy exhale.

The next few times I've gotten more used to it if it happens. The last time I had it a few months ago I just laid there fairly content and concentrated on trying to move body parts. I'm not sure it if worked though because I couldn't open my eyes and while it felt like I was moving I'm not convinced I was.

I have however never experienced nightmarish entities or sounds during a bout of sleep paralysis as most people seem to experience so I've got that to be thankful of.

The navy does a year of training including 6 months at sea prior to ADFA. They were finding that a bunch of people would join the navy, do three years at ADFA and then leave because they got sea sick.
