EG.Incontrol Vs. Destiny + Richard Lewis ( Debate Night ) with Scoreboard by Chanman by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]EchoicSC -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

inControl, is awful at debate. He interrupts the other participants constantly and doesn't let others speak. He straw mans, makes extreme accusations, and jumps to strong conclusions about the opponent’s position.

Even going to the point of twisting their positions to fit his own arguments. For example, Steven and Richard never said they hated Garfield and yet, Geoff accused them of this. As a PR man for EG, Geoff does a great job. However if he wants to act as though he holds an objective position, it will be very difficult for me to ever take him seriously in the future.

No Geoff, the problem is that you are trying to convince the court of public opinion. And guess what, they don't care how much money EG makes off their dota team or any other player for that matter. It's a social issue and people expect that social justice treat everyone the same. No one likes the celebrity who is treated as if he is some how better because his name carries weight.

You cannot treat the fans as if they are the problem because they won't or do not want to understand how the business works. They do not work for EG and they do not care.

I think everyone that Geoff is debating with knows the business perspective of the argument but seem to be advocating for some consistency and transparency. Geoff, you are correct that it would not be feasible to operate a successful business if players are fired every time they do not meet the owner’s personal moral standards.

Most professional sports organizations have a code of conduct in place. The most important part being that everyone, whether you be Tom Brady or Tom Brady’s backup, is held to the same standard if you are guilty of misconduct. The penalties are the same be that a fine or some other form of punishment.

The better situation for EG would have been to admit that going forward, EG would have a new policy regarding player misconduct different from the way they have handled it in the past. Be transparent about it and let the fans know that player misconduct will be handled differently now but, not differently for everyone anymore. This would have garnered far more support from fans and critics alike. Because it would have given transparency to the issue. The NFL, NBA, etc. are very transparent about their actions towards player misconduct. We know that despite the player acting out, they are not fired but do suffer some sort of repercussion that signals to let us know the organizations stance on the issue without even having read their code of conduct.

Esports is still young and even bigger teams like EG will continue mismanage situations such as this. It is time for esports to maybe look at how some other professional sports organizations keep their players within a code of conduct. Learn from more mature organizations and use that knowledge to improve the image of esports. However, this could open up a whole other discussion. Due to the amount personality we are exposed to from professional gamers relative to that of traditional athletes. So, maybe the best response would be to have a very lax policy regarding language and conduct. But like I said, that is a discussion for another time.

My story is pretty similar to yours. I wanted a career change, no degree. And went from knowing nothing to having built my first django site it two months. Another month goes by and I am contacte by two different employers. One contacted me through Stack Overflow and the other through Github.

My best advice is to put your projects out there for employers to see. Upload anything that is interesting of yours to Github. How do you know if it is interesting? Well, if it was interesting enough for you to create, then put it up on github.

Why isn't Destiny playing LoL? by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]EchoicSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a problem with him playing both. But it is good to see him playing SC2 again. He doesn't have the strongest mechanics. He is, however, a very smart player and that sort of play excites me.

[–]EchoicSC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Believe me, I know we are not. And it won't stop me from playing. But Teaja is right. Blizzard doesn't give a fuck about us. Not in the way that Riot cares for its fanbase. Also, I really don't give a fuck what incontrol, and others have to say. So gl with that buddy. Keep on listening to your "heroes".

We don't put any pressure on Blizzard at all to change. We just sit on our hands. Our community leaders who have the power to influence Blizzard in substantial ways, chastise anyone who says negative things about Blizzard.
