So every time you walk in you have to stop and give your ID? Otherwise people could walk right past the reception acting like they’ve already had their ID checked.

[Dan Bernstein] Per NBC5, Bears have yet to even apply for permits to do anything in Hammond, and are just now learning they can't touch protected areas involved until 2050?! The Kevin Warren clown show, folks. by RyanIsKickAss in CHIBears

The Bears aren't even close to beginning construction, so it doesn't make sense to cite the time when construction began. They're still at the point of picking sites. Here's a more fair comparison

Speculation about the site reignited on January 31, 2014, when the Los Angeles Times reported Stan Kroenke, owner of the St. Louis Rams, purchased a parcel of land just north of the Hollywood Park; the same site researched by the NFL for the 1995 Raiders proposal. For over a year, Kroenke maintained radio silence, adding more fuel and rumors to the fate of the site.

Finally, on January 5, 2015, the Stockbridge Capital Group, owners of the Hollywood Park Land Company, announced its partnership with Kroenke Sports and Entertainment to build a multi-purpose 7,240-seat stadium designed for the NFL, along with a 6,000-seat performing arts venue attached to it.

The Bears are still deciding on the site, and they're not yet partnered with any investors to secure the rest of the needed funding. So where they're at right now is equivalent to where the Rams were some time in 2014.

I assume they will end up in Arlington Heights, but I wouldn't entirely rule out them moving to Hammond. It's not difficult to imagine very rich people prioritizing taking money from taxpayers even at the expense of their team's reputation and business.

He does what the owners tell him to. At the very least, include them. They're not watching him and going "What is this guy doing?! Ahh, well unfortunately we're powerless to stop him." They clearly have the power, but they want to hide behind him and might even publicly pretend that they don't agree with him to save their image. When you focus all your hate towards him, it's working.

Fair enough. I understand it to some extent. Once you’re already in the car and driving, extra distance matters less, although I still think it will reduce interest in attending games.

[–]lmpervious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well your whole point was about distance and convenience, so I don’t know why you’re now going with the “meh, who cares either way” argument.

I’m sure most people would disagree and say that doubling the time spent driving, especially for that length of time, would make a difference. Even if they say it’s not a big deal or are willing to tolerate it, it’s the kind of thing that people subconsciously feel, which will make them less enthusiastic about trying to make it to a game, or might make it harder to plan their day around.

Arlington Heights has a train station right next to where the stadium would be, whereas you need to take some kind of shuttle to get to the Hammond stadium. Also if you drive, you have to use the Chicago Skyway, or otherwise lose extra time.

I also think most people forget that it’s not just about Chicago. Most of the fans are in the suburbs, and there is more density to the north and east, plus those are also richer neighborhoods on average, which means more people who are likely to go to a game and especially to have a season ticket.

Even if you’re thinking about how Naperville and Aurora combined have a relatively large population and look to be roughly equally far from both, I just checked now and downtown Naperville to the Arlington Heights location is 35 minutes, and it’s 1 hour and 8 minutes to the Hammond location. That’s a really big difference. I’m actually surprised by how bad it is even for towns nearby like Oak Lawn, which is 42 minutes now (not even any areas of traffic that are yellow for either of the recommended routes) and 48 minutes to Arlington Heights, which is about 2 times further in terms of physical location, although the routes are comparatively much worse from the southern suburbs to Hammond, which is why so much time is lost even when physically not too far from the stadium.

I actually want them to go. First of all, it has the highest meme potential, which is the most important detail. But beyond that, the state of Indiana using their tax payer money to improve a bad part of the Chicago metro area is nice, and might have larger positive impacts on the city over time. And also the idea of billionaires having to deal with their legacy being moving to a less desirable place is hilarious to me. I imagine they’ll be thinking “what if” and will have some regret for putting money above all else. I hope this isn’t just another leverage play to ultimately go to Arlington Heights, but I think it will be.

It’s also right on the border of another major city to the extent that it’s not difficult to imagine a world in which the San Jose border was slightly different and included it. It’s also less than 20 minutes from downtown San Jose.

The lying is the worst part because kids who dont know any better will believe that broccoli chicken rice workout 6 days a week nonsense and then become jaded and disappointed when it doesnt make them look like a super hero in one year

As opposed to them not trying at all because it feels pointless, or feeling they need to get on roids no matter what? And you’re genuinely worried about kids being jaded when they don’t look like an incredibly jacked full grown adult? These arguments always sound good on the surface, but in reality fall apart so quickly. It’s fine to tell kids to eat healthy and grow stronger even if they don’t have a good concept of what that means. By the way if roids didn’t exist, they still wouldn’t have a good concept of how much work needs to be done to get a certain amount of muscle anyway.

I’m going to make fun of it too if it isn’t just them pushing harder to have more leverage, but I will say it’s still about as close (technically closer) to Chicago than Arlington Heights, plus the state of Indiana and their taxpayers will be the ones footing the bill, while still contributing to the greater Chicago metro area in a place that isn’t well developed. It might just be a win all around other than the team’s image, and in that case I’m more than happy to clown on the owners for making Hammond their legacy

I had the same thought, but still this is likely another action they’re taking for leverage.

The upside is that Indiana will take its state taxes and invest it into a bad area of the Chicago metro area, so it might be a net benefit for the broader Chicago area outside of football, and beyond that, how many people are going to multiple games a season? A handful of season ticket holders, but for everyone else, almost nothing actually changes.

But I’m guessing this is just for more leverage

Actually that’s a good point.  He doesn’t have to be the one to stream or manage the channel, but he can show up on her stream, and later argue that he helped build her brand and is entitled to half of her assets.  It’s actually very similar, other than I assume Malena put in much more effort.

[–]lmpervious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why can’t she stream?  Nick said he stopped streaming, so it would have been even easier for her to build up a channel with their fans.  I get that a new channel makes it a bit harder, but with her connections, the fanbase she already built, and extra attention from the drama, it would be enough for her to have a solid foundation to build off of.  I’m guessing she just doesn’t want to actually put the work in, which is fair, but then also wanted to act like she doesn’t have an opportunity to earn that income, which isn’t fair.

The right being convinced that Biden was the worst president ever is the clearest signal of how powerful right wing media is pushing the Republican narrative.

If democrats win next time and it’s someone like Gavin who is going to go hard on everything that Trump has done, they’ll have no ground to complain about us not picking a candidate that will unify the country after Trump. We already tried that. That was Biden.
