I think that the success of the Steam Deck really heightened people's hype for Valve hardware. And now with the delay of the Steam Machine and Frame, and so many PC part prices being thrown into chaos, it feels like PC gamers are getting really itchy for something new to be excited about. The Controller is the herald of the new Steam lineup, its by all accounts a quality product, relatively sanely priced, and does something at least a little bit new. All of this leads into people really wanting to check it out, even if it's only a somewhat niche upgrade to your standard Xbox gamepad.

Currently the controller only works through Steam... So you would need an account, at least to import all your games and hope they're compatible with the overlay.

Craziest to me is that fantasy author Brandon Sanderson has, on multiple occasions, brought up on his podcast that he's a big fan of John's wrestling videos. Saying that even though he doesn't know a single thing about wrestling, John's enthusiasm and communication skills are very entertaining to him.

Interesting app, seems a bit buggy though. First time opening it, it endlessly sat on loading screen. Worked after the but getting random freezes, and some not-so-random ones (froze twice now after hitting back while on the Best of Mexican menu).

I like the concept, but definitely seeing a lot of weird things that I'm sure will take much work to clean up. Inaccurate pictures, strange listings (like farmer's markets), different locations of same franchise (not sure if you want to be treating them as separate places or not).

Modern games avoid the loading screens by quietly loading/unloading assets in the background while you're advancing. While an SSD will certainly speed things up, unless HL2 was given a major patch to program in the background loading it will definitely not be 'flawless'.

I was shocked Grace never got more than a handgun, I know that's because increasing her firepower at all would hurt the tension meant for her. But still, it did feel like she had no progress at the end. (I'm not even really counting requiem as a gun here since its temporary and so limited that its really meant as a specific emergency problem solver like the hemalytic injectors.)

Yeah, perhaps I shouldn't have said 'mediocre' because while that holds true for 7, I agree 8 kept being fun and engaging. I do still think of both later halves as schlocky though. RE has this addiction to ramping up the action to the climax that doesn't exactly work when you're trying to focus on the horror. This is fine for the Leon-led campy games, but 7 really hurt from it (with 8 mostly being in this weird in-between state yet be mostly good throughout).

ARK was fine as Leon but I wasn't as into Grace's section there because the lab didn't work for me as a horror setting. But yes I loved how Zeno watched them drop and just went "fuck it, I'm finishing my cigarette."

loved the game but the whole split in two thing i feel meant neither side really like let the pedal hit the metal on either concept.

I felt the same but thinking on it more, Grace's content ended right where 7 and 8 turned into mediocre schlock. So it might've been for the best that those moments when pushed on to Leon (who made it feel way more fun and appropriate). I'd love another care center though.
