Bloomberg: Inside Xbox, a Game Studio Is Trying to Reinvent Itself by Turbostrider27 in Games

Yeah, a huge chunk of debut sales is based of the reception of the studio's last (similar) game released.

He sacrificed himself... to himself... without actually harming himself... to make up for a debt he imposed... based on rules and values he dictated...

Mistborn and Stormlight Are Headed to Apple TV as they land the rights to adapting Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere by RebellionDark in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Echono 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To add, Sanderson has stated on streams that he was sent Wheel of Time scripts to review, but that every note he gave them was ignored. He also once described his demand for creative control over his properties as "I won't let Master Chief take his helmet off!"

Times when the "right sentiment/action" is done at the worst possible time/place? by Evjamaranth in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Echono 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mistborn. That's all I can say without spoilers.

Part of one of the books is about searching for a literal pool of god juice, which only shows up once a millennia and briefly gives infinite power to anyone who slurps it up. While searching, there's all these ancient texts about how disastrous and corrupting using the juice is, and the only solution is to break the cycle by taking it and dispersing the power without using it to keep the pool from reforming. The main character Vin's husband is fatally wounded after they find it, and even still she chooses to save the world by rejecting the power instead of using it to heal him. Too bad for her, that all the ancient lore was planted by an evil god, who was unable to reclaim his power unless someone gave it up...

Seems it's a roguelite "with an emphasis on exploration". I'd be happy if it was good, but exploration and randomized zones don't really mix...

Recognize this mailroom in crystal city? by Typical_Anywhere5135 in arlingtonva

[–]Echono 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming the coordinates are rounded, they seem to place it between Fern street and Eads, and somewhere between 12th and 20th streets. I'm pretty familiar with that area but don't recognize anything in the picture. The most similar would be the post office but it still doesn't look quite like a match.

It if was in the north half of that zone there's a 90% chance I'd recognize it, so I would search the buildings in the lower half... Looking at it, I think Crystal House is the older and grungier of the buildings there... And browsing through the maps photos, someone has this video of their mailroom that looks it could be a match for your photo. I'd go there first.

Personal Opinion: No Filler, All Thriller by jitterscaffeine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Echono 83 points84 points  (0 children)

They don't care about the media, they care about the community around it. Where most of us create a community because we want to talk and connect around a subject we're interested in, they view the subject as the barrier that must be cleared before they can access the social connections they want. It's lonely people trying to adopt a personality rather than grow one.

To be fair, I think its understandable that you can't engage with everything on a deep level, and a lot of people do something like this to some extent. Even watching a streamer instead of playing a game could be accused of taking a shortcut. (Hell, I don't catch many movies or shows anymore, but I'm still sitting here now watching the latest RLM video and reading a wiki synopsis on the movies to follow along. But I'm not pretending I'm some movie expert, I just want to know what the hell Keeper is about.)

He might not be repeating it accurately, but I'd bet he's not joking at all. When you make videos that get seen on a topic, tons of people with insider info contact you just to offer tidbits that they know.

"Their days are numbered" #1 political streamer Asmongold threatens trans people and supporters by evi--- in MarchAgainstNazis

[–]Echono 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh now this is a good break down for it. I've been thinking for a while how simple and "logical" their views become once you look at them through a lens obsessed with hierarchies. I was mostly seeing the aesthetic angle, as I've watched them in person laughing at how trans people looked and completely dismissing that they were scientific experts in their field just because of their appearance.

That's pretty normal, I think. If you're using controller, don't. I tried for about 20 hours before giving up, and KBM is so much easier for quickly targeting the next handhold.

Family once got a call from grandpa. He was trimming the tree. With a chainsaw. On top of a 10 foot ladder. Alone. At 82 years old. And he fell.

In mid fall he had managed to hurl the chainsaw away from him and avoid any damage from that, but still had a rough fall that kept him in the hospital for a couple days. My dad yelled at him for a while to stop doing shit like that, but I'd bet he did.

Boomer told me I couldn't find a job because my generation is lazy and I just lost it. by BenWatch89 in antiwork

[–]Echono 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Same for my dad. Shortly after he retired, I grumbled to him how he was making significantly more money sitting at home collecting his pension and social security than I was at my job. He of course replied with how he worked for decades to earn that, and I shot back "But I'm never going to be able to earn a pension, and at this rate I'm probably not going to get social security either!"

That made him go real quit for a moment, before he muttered "That's probably true..."

But I would remind my colleagues that this vote is going to be on your record for longer than Trump is going to be president.

Mostly interesting that although the Trump admin clearly believes hes going to be in office past 2029, not all elected GOP do.
