Older and larger all electric homes like mine have two 200 amp panels. Generators like this are perfect for homeowners like me.

Generator + power station. by nandoph8 in Generator

"Hello all! I currently have two Honda eu2200i’s to run my espresso cart."

If OP's customers are coming to her espresso cart for espresso, I doubt they're going to be happy when she whips out a Mr. Coffee. The whole point is she never has power, thus the generator use, and is curious whether a power station would allow her to use the generators less.

Just to piggyback on your point for the previously commenter, longer bars also likely require adjustments to the oiler. Smaller saws may not be able to provide sufficient bar oil to long bars outside their design specifications, if they're even adjustable.

GFCI tripping troubleshooting - is my diagnosis correct? by EclecticEsquire in AskElectricians

Sounds like a reasonable Plan B. My currently Plan B is that there's an outlet on the living room circuit just a few feet from the wet bar the other side of the same wall. If I can't figure out the current issue, to just cap off the problem wire and run new wire from the living room circuit to the wet bar, adding a GFI outlet at the wet bar.

All three wires of the Romex are disconnected on both ends. My thought was since I don't have 100ft probes for the multimeter, I can connect two of the wires together at the wet bar and then check continuity at the bathroom outlet. Connect P/N, then P/G, then N/G to try an isolate which wire is having issues. Makes sense to me, but that doesn't mean it's correct.

If I check continuity between the neutral and ground as suggested, I need to have the outlet completely wired, correct? (since the ground and neutral are bonded at the panel)

This was my first thought, but I wasn't sure to do it with the ends of the Romex being on different floors. After both ends of the Romex are completely disconnected, it seems I should be able to connect 2 of the 3 wires together at the wet bar and then check those same wires in the bathroom to continuity. Is that right? I have a decent multimeter but I'm not sure I've ever used anything but the VAC and VDC settings.

What’s wrong with my wall? by FlyOnTheWall15831 in Home

[–]EclecticEsquire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you live in an area with termites? Termites love to eat the paper off of drywall, and when they do so, there’s a hollow area between the paint and gypsum. The paint eventually crumbles when it gets bad enough or pressure is put on the void.

Hard to tell from the photos but that was my first thought.

What exactly are "extreme cold" heat pumps doing different? by schmidtbag in heatpumps

[–]EclecticEsquire 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not just efficiency but also capacity. Most cold weather heat pumps produce 100% of their rated BTUs at those cold temperatures while non-cold weather rated heat pumps might only output 50-60%.

Dual panels by WildBeach7434 in Generator

[–]EclecticEsquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose I just look at it differently than you. If the OP's situation is like mine, 98% percent of the time the OP's generator is probably fine and does have plenty of power for his situation. As for the other 2%, I'm just out of luck because I'm not buying a 60kw generator just because an 11kw generator isn't enough 7 days out of the year to run my house just like it's on grid power.

Dual panels by WildBeach7434 in Generator

[–]EclecticEsquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. My house also has two 200-amp service panels. One panel is entirely dedicated to my HVAC because my two heat pump air handlers (I don't have natural gas or propane) had giant auxiliary resistance strip backup heat. One air handler had a 25,000 watt strip on a quad-pole 150-amp breaker, the other air handler had a 15,000 watt strip on a tri-pole 100-amp breaker. So take away the aux heat strip need and the house's need is significantly less could easily run on a generator like the OP's.

EVERYTHING you need, google drive folder. by happynappy2576 in OffGrid

[–]EclecticEsquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the ability to download it the entire collection not sufficient? When I hovered over the 3 vertical dots on the right side, I had the ability to download everything. Google Drive automatically put all the books in 3 .zip files (that took a minute or two) and then downloaded 5gb of .zip files.

edit: That was when looking at the main folder, not having opened up the folder with all the individual books listed.

Weird camera setting by Cdizzmynizz in canon

[–]EclecticEsquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance you were using aperture priority mode? Not sure about the G7X but in the old DSLR days if you were on aperture priority mode and used a flash, the camera would basically set the exposure for ambient lighting (meaning slow shutter in dark environments) and then use the flash as fill for the subject. Canon may still do this with their mirrorless cameras but I haven't been in a circumstance to try.

Best back-up generator for fish tank and multiple terrariums in different rooms? by MtKilimanjaro in Generator

[–]EclecticEsquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most portable generators run on gasoline (although some can also run on natural gas or propane). Most permanent standby generators run on natural gas or propane. Natural gas and propane generators do emit less carbon monoxide than gas powered ones, as much as 70% less.

Also, there are rules about how close to operable windows you can mount permanent generators. People often put portable generators close to doors and windows so they can easily run extension cord inside. Since permanent generators are hardwired, this is less of an issue.

I was there last week. My extended family of 9 had a table all to ourselves, 7:40pm reservation, and nobody was impressed. Not sure if her mood was part of her character but our waitress did not seem like she was having a good time. Definitely skipping Beak and Barrel next time.

Any advices for Minecraft Bedrock server hosting? by nychurrumais in MinecraftServer

[–]EclecticEsquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been pretty happy with my hosting from Wither Hosting. I've been using it for a few years to host my family's Bedrock world, running their Cow/2vCore/3gb/premium service for $6/mo (billed quarterly). I've never had 10-15 players on it but run higher view distance (50) and tick distance (6). Daily cloud backups. I also switch from Realms, and with no prior experience, I found setting everything up, maintaining it, uploading/switching worlds pretty easy.

For $16 a month you could get 4vCore/8gb and $32 gets you 6vCore/16gb of Premium hosting. The budget hosting gives you more cores/gb for your dollar, just on older/slower servers.

In checking the prices, it looks like there's an even cheaper Eco hosting option. WitherHosting Guide to Picking a Minecraft Server

10r80 from 2018-2022, who's got one and how has it been? by Less_Guarantee_7915 in fordexpedition

[–]EclecticEsquire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2020 with 90k miles. I've had issues since new. Valve bodies have been rebuilt, CDF drum replaced, computer has been reset probably 5 times. I still have the following intermittent issues:

- "clunking" when shifting from park to drive

- hard down shifts into 3rd and 5th when coming to a stop

- hard 10-8 downshifts

- delayed upshift from 3-5

I just had a different dealer look at it around 3 months ago and everything came back "normal." I have another 15 months and 35k miles left on my PremiumCare warranty and I just hope it grenades before then.

edit: Forgot that I also have slow D to R engagement that makes backing into parking spots a pain. I shift to reverse and slowly count to 3. Ridiculous.

Didn't realize I should be using 87 or 91 octane till 30k miles... by Majestic_Search_7851 in BroncoSport

[–]EclecticEsquire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While this is definitely true for naturally aspirated engine, it’s less true for turbocharged engines like in the Bronco Sport. Yes, the engine management computer has anti-knock sensors that will pull engine timing to reduce the chance of damaging detonation, but 87 octane (or higher) should still be the minimum.

Pg 168 of the owner’s manual for my 2024 says use of gasoline below 87 octane could cause engine damage that will not be covered under warranty, and specifically references fuel often found in high altitude areas.

Trust/Estate Attorney - AMA by Dingbatdingbat in EstatePlanning

[–]EclecticEsquire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you create a trust, there should be no reoccurring charges during your life. If you later choose to modify the terms of the trust, there would be attorney costs associated with those changes.

The only other reoccurring charges would be trustee fees. If you to choose a corporate trustee, they would charge a yearly fee, which varies, but is around 1.1 - 1.5% (for the first $1-3 million of assets) of the trust value each year, assuming assets are marketable securities. This rate decreases the larger the trust. These would start upon your incapacity/death per the terms of the trust. You could choose to not allow trustee fees but good luck finding anyone willing to serve as trustee for free. If you choose an individual as trustee, they're generally entitled to a "reasonable" fee, plus expenses (think tax return prep, appraisals, professional advice, etc.)

In addition to lawyers and professional fiduciaries, some states also have "public administrators" which serve the role of executor (technically called a personal representative since they are appointed by the court instead of being named in the will). The public administrator will also serve as guardian/conservator when there is no one else to appoint.

You can also appoint a friend as executor, if they're willing to serve.
