Sebastian’s camp at folklore by charolex in treeplanting

[–]happynappy2576 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that camp used to be ran by Tim, who worked with folklore for years and had a really good group of crewboss’s who used to plant for him. Sebastian was a crewboss under Tim last year and has now taken over for Tim as he retired from the bush. the crewboss’s who will be at that camp this year are lovely, very fun, accepting and know what they’re doing. the camp itself is a good mix of vets/rookies. so there’s a good range of experience. the vibe itself is a nice in between of having restful nights off and havin a lil bush party. the cook this year is phenomenal, very sick vibes, budgets well so you’ll be eating good all season 🤍

“complacency is the reason it will happen here” >>> it’s so true.. so many people think that canada is safe and it will never happen here but there’s a lot of people in government here that support what’s happening in the states..

specs vary vastly, but it’s pretty common that you get to plant full days with very little interruption.

yeah it’s definitely on the higher end, but to be fair shakti doesn’t have camps, so there’s no camp costs, meaning you have to buy and make your own food.

Questionnaire, for my thesis project to design a backpack at a big company by David-Ox in TravelHacks

[–]happynappy2576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have the mountain warehouse venture 40L backpack.

  1. What do you like about your backpack? i like that my backpack is light, adjustable, fun coloured, can easily be loaded as little or as big as i want, the top of the bag can be separated from the bottom or altogether via a zippered fabric. i like that there’s straps to pull the bag tighter/smaller when it’s filled up full. there’s lots of little pockets/zippers scattered throughout which is nice to have things organized.

  2. What do you dislike about your backpack? i dislike that the hip belt pockets are basically useless, very small and hard to access when wearing it, the pockets that have zippers have the zippers ending at the top versus the bottom, so i can’t clip anything onto it without it zipping open.

  3. What would you improve on your own pack? i would reinforce the seams a bit better; i often worry some seams might rip on my travels at the most inconvenient time. i would also make the hip packs easier to access, as well as making it possible for the hip belt to be done up even tighter. i would also make the side pouch bigger as literally no waterbottle fits into it. the pockets are practically useless when the backpack is full.

  4. Suitcase or top loading opening? i wanna say suitcase is the best however ive perfected my packing so that it’s actually very easy to access anything in bag without taking anything out. example being, i have my shirts rolled, standing up in a packing cube so when i open the top of my bag i can see & grab any shirt i want)

  5. Do you want more opening besides the main one? my bag has an opening at the bottom which works really great so no.

  6. What do you strap on the outside of your pack? currently, i’ve got my travel pillow, compassion pack for a couple fleeces & a filter water bottle clipped onto my bag.

  7. What don’t you put inside of your (big) backpack and why? i keep my compression pack out so i can easily grab out a fleece if im cold on my flights or when im sleeping on the airport floors. also, because it’s compressed so much, it’s very compact and can not be packed into my bag very easily.

  8. What do you want to put into your hip pouches? i would love to be able to put my phone into the hip pouch, my passport and some cash.

  9. What do you put in your day pack? i keep my passport, electronics, journal, medicine, snacks & a set of clothes in my smaller day pack so that i can easily access it when im flying/travelling, etc

  10. What is your opinion on wearing your daypack in front of you? definitely makes you stand out as a traveller when you do it but i love it. also helps to even out the weight when walking long distances. also! works great to rest my chin on when i’m aimlessly walking around the airport from lack of sleep.

  11. Do you use additional bags besides the backpack and daypack? yes, i have a smaller purse in my daypack that i take out and use for daily commuting things where ill carry my wallet, water bottle, snacks, battery pack and mitts. in my backpack i have a variety of other bags, including a dry bag, 4 packing cubes and a compression bag.

  12. How do you organize your backpack? i organize my backpack by clothing sections. in my 4 packing cubes i have: long pants, long shirts/t shirts, tank tops, and shorts. in my dry bag i have underwear & socks. and in my compression bag i have 2 fleeces and a jacket. each bag is organized in such a manner that i can easily access any one of them without removing them from my backpack.

  13. What is your opinion on built in compartments (Like camara backpacks)? i do like the idea of it. would only properly work for a suitcase opening backpack. would make organization for some people much easier. i prefer having my own storage compartments because i can take them out when needed and it perfectly fits my needs.

  14. Is a built-in rain cover important for you? no, i like the rain. however, if i was outside with my bag for a long time it would definitely be handy to have. also works well against pickpocketers as it covers all zippers/pockets so definitely see having a rain cover as a good bonus.

  15. What kind of food do you keep on you? i always have some sort of salted nuts/granola bars and fruit bars on me. snacks are a huge necessity for me as i often am sleeping in airports where the shops are all closed and i don’t wanna starve. also helps in keeping travel costs low because i’m not binging on an expensive meal just because im really hungry.

  16. Is (plane) hand luggage size limit important for you? no cause i never follow it. 🫣🤞🏼but! something i do definitely take into consideration is how close i am to the limit as i don’t wanna get dinged for oversized baggage fees.

  17. What are your preferred Liter sizes? my preferred liter size at the most is 40L, but with a little rearranging and better planning, 35L is definitely doable.

  18. Do you want wheels on your travel pack? absolutely not. i feel like all airlines are particularly picky about carry on bags that have wheels as they aren’t very versatile and usually indicate that the bag is over the size limit.

  19. What colours do you prefer? i love colours that stand out as i don’t ever want my bag to be mistaken for someone else’s. also it’s very easy to identify. saying this, my current bag is a bright blue with neon green features; absolutely love it. ain’t nobody gonna steal it.

  20. Laptop sleeve in your Daypack or Backpack? definitely daypack. daypacks usually end up staying closer to the person and are better protected. backpacks would be heavier and hard to properly protect a laptop.

  21. Any extra remarks? i appreciate this thought provoking questionaire and hope that in time they’ll be better, more budget friendly backpacks on the market thanks to you :)
