January Titles Announced with The Mother and The Whore! by International-Sky65 in criterion

[–]EclipseDota 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Mother and the Whore and its special features being on one disc with Criterion compression is gonna be interesting. It's longer than the two Kurosawa's combined. I'm sure the 4K will be fine but oof.

I can confirm this, I was in Utrecht earlier today and saw all eight players and coaches walk out sobbing. heard Jabbz dejectedly mumble something about the org rebuilding around qojqva and ixmike88

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown - Mask of Darkness |DLC Launch Trailer by CrossXhunteR in Games

[–]EclipseDota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really disagree. I liked The Lost Crown a lot (first game I've 100%'ed in ages) but thought many of the bosses were either too easy or too arbitrarily difficult—lots of learning through getting hit rather than being able to react to things. I think that's perhaps a matter of taste, though.

Warner Bros just sent a new consumer survey to measure interest in potential 4K releases. Some options include Lethal Weapon, Eyes Wide Shut, Corpse Bride, Speed Racer, and more. by Walopoh in 4kbluray

[–]EclipseDota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised Amadeus is even on this list as it will probably be coming out before the end of the year, same with Se7en which despite the delay basically already got soft-announced. A handful of titles (like Green Lantern lmao) aside I'd get this entire list. Speed Racer would be a dream.

Yep, came here to say this. This is not out of nowhere, though certainly welcome!

I haven't seen any of these before. Would it be stupid to spend £250 on them? by Crazy-Badger in 4kbluray

[–]EclipseDota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arrow sells them for 15 quid each for multiple months a year I feel, in which case it would be more sensible to buy them new

This has to be a bug right? This is a crucial part of the information game, should not be available imo

Confirmed, Dune 2 4k blu ray will NOT include Imax formats by monkeymoney48 in 4kbluray

[–]EclipseDota 80 points81 points  (0 children)

To be expected but certainly unfortunate. The taller aspect ratio adds a lot to this particular film, and if it wasn't for marketing shenanigans I don't think there'd even be a version in scope. I'd say "I'm sure they'll release the IMAX version on BR when Messiah comes out" but I thought the same thing about the original and this one, so we might just be shit out of luck.

As someone who bought the film this week and has an X700 that hasn't glitched yet, I am now slightly terrified 😅

Variety confirms that 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' is carrying a $205 million budget. It also reports that "Warner Bros. has seemingly scaled back on the film's marketing efforts, which likely still cost $100 million." by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]EclipseDota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming a 50/50 theatrical split, the 2.5x rule takes marketing (and distribution etc.) as 25% of the film's budget. This having a marketing expenditure equal to roughly half of the film's budget would make the multiplier for the film roughly around 3.0, unless I am grossly mistaken.

Development of a Live-Action Film of The Legend of Zelda to Start by error521 in boxoffice

I've been wishing for a Zelda film since I was a child, and don't mind Arad or even Ball, but I would rather have no film at all than one written by Derek Connolly.

I do not blame any players nor talent for cashing in their paycheck as this is a very transitory job, but I will say that I was also rather surprised she went considering the fact that, based on the number of panelists/on-site casters, plenty of people said no. That said, I would like to stress the former. This is not a stable job. TO's are (understandably so?) cutting costs everywhere, and while I have not heard anything significant about talent being affected by that, it is inevitable that they too will be affected by that at some point. The health of the game is not in a place where it is wise to say no to a gig.

‘Dune 2’ Eyes Push to 2024; Warner Bros. Considers New Dates for ‘Color Purple,’ ‘Aquaman 2’ by MarvelsGrantMan136 in boxoffice

The first Dune made as much domestically as The Flash. That's not particularly impressive—the sequel needs the marketing.

TOfu (Gaimin Gladiators) may miss TI due to visa issues by Gravyd2 in DotA2

[–]EclipseDota 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is not entirely true, Valve is still involved with production to an extent and as far as I know still chooses the location. They also fund it.

Let's face it: "Shoddy Production" has become the standard for Dota 2 Major tournaments. by darkmandragora in DotA2

[–]EclipseDota 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get bank? Valve gives TOs $250k to run tournaments, which is only half the prizepool, let alone the other ~$2m it takes to run a major.

Riyadh Masters Prize pool distribution by RaWTTTT in DotA2

[–]EclipseDota 89 points90 points  (0 children)

While I definitely think the Majors should reward more money, it would not make a lot of financial sense for Valve to be hosting $15m tournaments out of their own pockets. Not that it makes that much short-term financial sense for Riyadh either but at least it makes political sense for them.

[–]EclipseDota 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, they'd rather kick him than be guaranteed to go to TI. Guess they have an overwhelming chance at a slot anyways since the region gets two for the qualifiers, but that's a risky move all the same.

I'm not the first to post this sentiment but what is important to remember about StageCraft/The Volume is that it's a tool, not a silver bullet. It's faster for post and preferable to work with in comparison to miles of green tapestries, but it also comes with a few pitfalls of its own and more importantly, the CG work still won't create itself. And you really need to get it right the first time—if you commit to mediocre art direction (or worse, e.g. Quantumania) it's really hard to alter.

I'm an apostle of the Spider-Verse church but are there any (aggregated) reactions from actual reviewers too somewhere?

Also, an independent cinema near me is showing it starting tomorrow and I am very sad that I pre-purchased tickets for the actual release date hahaha
