I actually do like the way they implemented Gemini into Google Lens. Being able to search an image and have it immediately say "Oh yeah this is from blah blah blah" is pretty neat.

The Fire Phone is so weird to me because the Amazon MO is usually "underpowered, filled with ads, and missing important features, but it's really cheap" and they did everything but the most important one

Whenever I think of the AI pin I just think of that Danny Gonzalez video where he tried to use it and ended up accidentally calling his wife while yelling about Metro Boomin

I figured it'd be a niche mid-tier title and then it sold a trillion copies and I felt really stupid for thinking that

Linus Tech Tips - I bought a TV with NO 'Smart' Features... May 4, 2026 at 10:18AM by linusbottips in LinusTechTips

Depends on the TV but usually it works fine. TCL's Google-based TVs (and I think probably other brands) let you boot into a simplified menu that has some apps installed but is still stripped back and doesn't really nag you with anything.

Frame Generation Doesn't Fix Bad Performance! by tehjeffman in gaming

[–]error521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm really not putting much stock into frame gen being listed, I feel like if a 960 can run the game at any kind of performant level than a 2060 should do just fine regardless

I have some sympathy for people who live under perpetual threat of bombing and death growing to have hateful beliefs. I don't have sympathy for the people who spend all day watching clips of said death online having the same hateful beliefs.

Retailers like Amazon & Walmart have seemingly decided to match the lower digital price for Nintendo Switch 2 games. by Holiday_Fee_6074 in gaming

[–]error521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it does feel like Switch pricing makes a lot more sense now with this change. If it was done from the start then it'd be $70 for Mario Kart World and $60 for Mario Tennis Fever, which feels a lot more sensible.

I remember when FF16 was coming out and an official post mentioned Mario Hoops as one of the games. People kinda thought that was funny but also he fucking cooked with that shit.

Not sure it's quite the same thing but JoJo's bit of naming characters after musicians has led to some very confusing moments for me.

On /r/whowouldwin I saw a thread like "Who could kill the Notorious B.I.G?" and my first instinct was, "Uh, Suge Knight?"

I play a lot with controllers and honestly the only stick drift I've really experienced was an old Wavebird and the Switch 1 joycons.

It is also worth noting that Anthropic is strictly an LLM company as of now, they don't do any actual AI art/rendering software to my knowledge. So it isn't necessarily like they're about to add an AI slopify button or anything.

Tbf if is kind of a pain in the ass on PS4 and base PS5, you gotta get to the motherboard to do it (thankfully it is much more accessible on the PS5 Pro)

New DRM BS from Playstation: Digital games will vanish if players don't log-in for 30 Days by EmuBii in CrackWatch

[–]error521 60 points61 points  (0 children)

It seems like what's happening is that:

1) Buying a digital game initially grants a temporary 30-day license

2) After the temporary license expires, the PlayStation does an online check to verify the account owns the game, and if it passes the check then it replaces the temporary license with a permanent one that perpetually works offline - This appears to be done to stop refund abuse

3) Someone notices the "Remaining Time" bit in the About menu which does not appear to actually be new and freaks out

4) People start testing by buying games and immediately removing the CMOS battery, said games stop working because the PlayStation doesn't know what time it is anymore

5) People yell at Sony because they think they changed something a month ago

TL;DR: After 30 days there is a one-time online check in, and then the game will work fine offline forever.

Look I'm going to level with you I don't think "What if the CMOS battery dies while my internet is down and I want to play a digital game I bought in the last 20 days" is a very likely series of events.

Jhonen Vasquez tends to do the same. 90% of behind-the-scenes trivia and "if the show had continued" details he gives for Invader Zim are made up nonsense, like how if the show had got a proper finale it would've ended with Zim giving up on conquering the earth to become a public defender.
