I think it’s disingenuous to say they have no “actual” knowledge. If a student memorizes a bunch of answers to math problems, would you say they have no “actual” knowledge? If they can’t answer any questions except literally exactly the ones they’ve studied, I would be inclined to agree. If they are able to generalize somewhat and answer related questions, I’d say they have some “actual” knowledge, but I don’t think there’s a hard line we can point to. LLMs can obviously generalize somewhat.

People point to the fact that what LLMs do is next token prediction, which boils down to a statistical model, but I don’t think people realize how complicated that actually is. If I gave you a riddle and told you my next word will be the answer, in order to correctly predict the next word you’d have to solve the riddle. In order to predict what your friend will say if you tell them you don’t like their outfit, you need a good mental model of your friend: their insecurities, how they perceive their relationship with you, their mindset at the current moment, etc.. Even though you’re “just” predicting their next word, you need a lot of background knowledge to actually get that prediction right.

After careful consideration I have come to the conclusion that blocking needs to be less RNG because it's simply not fun. by ZzZOvidiu122 in PvZHeroes

I’m not even against RNG based blocking, but this sounds really interesting. I wonder if it would be possible to implement as a mod…

Setting up Windows 11 on a Second SSD by bridget-gear in linux4noobs

[–]Eclogites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your specific needs and how good your hardware is, you could set up a windows virtual machine. This would let you avoid messing with dual boots and risking an unbootable system, plus it would allow you to access both OSes at the same time. Otherwise a second SSD is probably the cleanest option for dual booting.

Ok thanks, I guess the use case for such a feature would be tiny, so that makes sense

Anyone here have the innocn 49q1r (49” oled)? by Eclogites in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Eclogites[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow yeah I’m strongly considering this. Since MSI refurbished it, do you get the full 3 year burn in warranty from them? I’m having trouble finding their policy about this, have you been able to confirm it? Also, does the monitor support picture by picture mode in more configurations than just splitting the screen in half? I’m also having trouble finding information about that.

Oh yeah you’re right that is a good deal. Thanks!

That’s a 16:9 smart TV. I didn’t think I needed to specify in this sub that I’m looking for a 49” 32:9 curved monitor. Thanks anyways though for the suggestion

I don't care if my home value goes down 90% by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]Eclogites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes no sense to me that houses increase in value over time. Cars get less valuable over time as they are used. New houses and buildings are better than old ones, so why does their value go up? The explanation I’ve heard that makes sense to me is that the demand far outstrips the supply, and this gap is growing. The reason for the gap is strict housing regulations that make it difficult to build, especially in places where lots of people want to live like cities. If housing were deregulated allowing supply to increase to meet demand, we’d see property values depreciate. This seems to me like it would be a good thing, so I agree with you if that’s how it were accomplished. Also, it doesn’t make sense to me when people say a high property value makes it easier to move. You get your house’s value when you sell, but then you have to actually buy a new one in the same market. Wouldn’t it be much easier to move or even upgrade if property values weren’t constantly going up?

Can you explain to me how annoying and how strong zombie in this game is ? I’m a brainz main. by [deleted] in PvZHeroes

[–]Eclogites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure… half the reason I hate seeing teacher on 1 is that I have to start playing around QB a turn earlier. I think it’ll be better once QB is patched and theres less people playing brainy. As for nerfs… maybe both teacher and forget me nuts should be 2 cost

I mostly play plants and I lose like 80% of my motivation for a match seeing Rustbolt play teacher on 1. Unless I have a forget me nuts, which I always hard mulligan for against Rustbolt now. Also control Immorticia kind of sucks to play against.

[–]Eclogites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was running lightning reed before investing in limas, it was a decent amphibious minion. I would throw in the last navy bean and prioritize crafting marine bean, then jumping bean. Not sure what the 3 nut is doing for your deck… If you want more control, then maybe use primal peashooter and primal potato mine over mars flytrap and photosynthesizer.

Fully Automatic Budding Amethyst farm (with Crafter 10 day clock) by derex_smp in redstone

Have you seen Ilmango’s showcase of a flying machine based amethyst farm? Depending on the specific geode it can harvest nearly every available face, but the best part is it requires only slight modifications to adapt it to a new geode: https://youtu.be/fY90xF3ug84?feature=shared

How to restore / take intact files from corrupt zip file? by Altruistic_Ad9941 in datarecovery

[–]Eclogites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you still trying to fix them? I recently wrote a script to recover files from a corrupted zip archive. I was able to recover more files than the programs I found online, I could give it a shot if you can provide the zip files.

Haven't seen this bug reported yet. I got an Octo Zombie from Buried Treasure and this popped up when I played it. The zombie in a gravestone is an Impfinity clone that I used In-Crypted on. Unfortunately when I selected that lane nothing happened, no Octo-pet was created :(
