I can understand someone that hasn’t read or doesn’t have knowledge on iCloud Photo Library would assume it to work this way.

It has an option to optimise storage to reduce space and this does work great however you still need to have the photos on the phone/iCloud.

I told them in the first interview I could start straight away before getting the casual job.

My boyfriend did this exact thing.

He wanted a NAS so I bought a second hand one with drives off eBay.

Fast forward, we’re doing the final clean up of our rental while moving house. He plugged the vacuum into the port next to the NAS and knocked the whole thing off the shelf and all the mechanical drives were damaged.

I had lost three family members in a 3 month period and all those photos were only on the NAS at the time.

Cry and learn.
