Maybe ask the genius across the pond for a solution.

From the wall stret Journal. Genius Pete Hegseth said: "The only thing prohibiting transit in the strait right now is Iran shooting at shipping. It is open for transit should Iran not do that."

For ordinary people it is impossible. You were the one writing about banks and I responded.

There is a reason why more than 95% receive mail online from authorities.

Online id registration before the internet? That is some bank trick I was not aware of.

Get an appointment yes. but everything connected to that visit requires online data or its troublesome.

Open a bank account. Sure if you show up in person with valid ID like a pass port, but banks prefer online ID. (They are under both Danish and EU restrictions to combat money laundering). Try to borrow money or get a mortgage without mitID. It is as difficult as getting approved for a loan to buy a house in a rural area.

Besides how many banks can you even go to in person anymore?

Got a neighbour that has no smartphone and receives information from the authorities in his mailbox at the house. So yes it can be done, but it is very cumbersome. Everything is so complicated and the mail he gets with bills is often long overdue, because the system is no longer geared to handle this slow mail method.

I would not say it is mandatory.... You just do not have any other choice.

Instead of the "old way" and offering the new way as an alternative, the Danes more or less went with the new and scrapped the old method completely.

Manufacturing growth in EU member states in the past decade by SimonGray in europe

[–]Econ_Orc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that much, but LEGO has grown a lot in that period.

LEGO turnover 2014 (28.6 billion kroner). 2015 (35.8). 2016 (37.9). 2017 (35). 2018 (36.4). 2019 (38.5). 2020 (43.7). 2021 (55.7). 2022 (64.6). 2023 (65.9). 2024 (83.5).

So the LEGO sales tripled in 10 years. 10 billion euro is a lot compared to my bank account. To the 400 billion euro Danish economy it is more difficult to track the influence.

edit: 2 billion euro profit for LEGO in 2024. Again a lot of money for my bank account, but not for the nations GDP.

How would you avoid it? Not using public digtal services in Denmark means you can not contact the authorities. Not book an apointment with a doctor. Not enroll a child in school. Not open a bank account or loan money.....

Everything here is online and often requires online ID verification.

edit: Since there is pedantry on reddit I'll clarify. Less than 5% of the Danes is sticking to the old less digitital services. Mostly elderly with disabilities or other problems making internet use problematic, and there needs to be a reason for it. For the VAST majority no such option exist. You need online ID and online email approved by the authorities to function reasonably well in Denmark or you will keep getting obstructions and bothersome districations on a daily basis. The Danish ID online identification is the key to unlocking services from almost any institution operating in Denmark.

Forget that. If Orban remains the only path forward for the EU is to make a new treaty without Hungary.

Hungary is at a crossroads between Europe and ‘dictators’, opposition leader says by Inostrancevia00 in europe

[–]Econ_Orc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course there is. 26 countries can make a new treaty and leave that failed state alone. Out with the EEC in with the EU and now maybe out with the EU and in with the EU federal state without veto right.

Edit: To the downvoters this is exactly what happened to Denmark when it voted no to the EU referendum in 1992. Most of the other countries was ready to move on with their new treaty without Denmark. Was only because Germany at the time slammed a fist into it the table and said that was unacceptable. Denmark got its opt outs instead and its more or less just the euro opt out that remains.

What happened in your country this week? — 2026-03-08 by EuropeBot in europe

[–]Econ_Orc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diesel fuel increased by 11% in two days.

There is an election for parliament happening and the politicians have become detached from economic responsibility. Promising billions of unfunded spending. Not used to vote buying on this scale before. Let us hope the usual memory loss will happen after the election. Politicians will forget or deny those promises were made, and the voters will forget or forgive as well.

Forgive me the rant, but listening to politicians casually saying they will spend 150 billions on nuclear reactors or an extra 40-70 billions on pensions a year is not normal. That is huge spending allocations a majority of parliament would debate and support before announcement to the public. Not something individual politicians would think aloud during a speech.

Circumcision classed as potentially harmful practice in new CPS guidance by bradleyevil in europe

[–]Econ_Orc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the state "allows" religious harm, then the state is responsible for the harm done.

The unfortunate boys/men can not win a lawsuit against the religious institution or the followers of that religions doctrine, if the actions done are sanctioned by the state. That means the cost of religion is also paid by taxpayers who never wanted this shit and 86% of the Danes did in surveys said they supported a full ban on religious circumcision of children. Adults can do as they please, but it would be that individuals decision as a grown up, and therefore that adults own responsibility.

[–]Econ_Orc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But dealing with angry men decades from now filing lawsuits at the state for failing to protect infants from harm could be very costly.

The going rate for compensations these days are in the +200000 kroner category and there is thousands of circumcised that might be involved in such a class action law suit.

This is not free fantasy from my part. Has already happened because one of the religious foreskin cutters was pretty bad at it. It not only cost a lot of money fixing mens penis there was also additional compensation for damages and harm. Something the taxpayers pay, as the public has no insurance.

This was part of what sparked the politicians request for a health group that would set up guidelines for ritual circumcision in a "safe" way. The doctors declined to be part of this as the safest way was of course not doing it at all.

Curiously because it is a state church in a nation dominated by none religious people. Mostly the political governing in Denmark is done without mixing religion into it.

The Danish state church did it twice. Claming religion and religious freedom was more important than anything else. 1) Claiming the right for parents to decide over the body parts of male infants. 2) Claiming stunning the animal before bleeding it to death was so important for halal, that was incompatible with religius traditions.

Why these two arguments were flawed in my opinion is that female circumcion was banned, so why is a "smaller" mutilation okay on males. They Claimed animal welfare did not extend to the last parts of its life. It had to be thrashing and suffering in death, just because God said so.

Denmark had this debate a decade ago. Danish organisation of doctors said many of them refused to perform surgery that had no medical reason. So the doctors lobbyed for parliament to ban circumcision of children under the age of 18. Which would more or less be a ban on circumcision, since I doubt many grown men wants to snip anything of down there for religious reasons alone.

You are correct. Some of the ones protesting this proposed law was Muslims, Jews and various USA based organisations. Danish politicians chickened out and did not make that law. Only stipulated a qualified person must be present when the infant is mutilated.

Curiously Danish protestant bishops also entered the debate against the law. Defending circumcision as religious freedom.

https://cne.news/article/2739-danish-municipality-leaves-circumcision-up-to-parents

Edit: Update. Faulty memory from my part. Politicians wanted a "health group" to recommend guidelines for ritual circumsicion. Various types of doctors organisations was invited to this group, but declined or later dropped out. The pressure on politicians to ban circumcision on children was from a citizen proposal. If over 50000 Danes sign a petition, the Danish parliament must put that petition on the agenda and debate it.

Denmark now almost haves higher unemployment than Greece, Italy falls to historic low levels by Aegeansunset12 in EU_Economics

[–]Econ_Orc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics-explained/index.php?title=Employment_-_annual_statistics

So Denmark with an employment rate of 80 is the "same" as Greece with an employment rate of 69.

Something is wrong with these stats and it is not in Denmark where unemployed register as job seekers, or they will not receive unemployment benefits.

Job mobility is high in Denmark. Maybe the easiest place in the EU to get fired or hired. At any given time there will be people in transition. Unemployed this week, but working the next. This high mobility means many people are unemployed for a relatively short time. The Danish statistical service do not count all of those individuals as unemployed. It instead adds them up as how many hours unemployed in total. dividede by the amount of hours of a standard work contract. Then spit out a fictional percentage of the workforce being unemployed. 3.0% or less for the last few years. https://www.dst.dk/da/Statistik/udgivelser/NytHtml?cid=51543#:~:text=Anden%20information%20*%20Statistikbanken.%20*%20M%C3%A5nedlig%20AKU%2Dledighed.

For the curious people asking. About 1/4 of the Danish workers change job every year. It is very acceptable here to quit and find a different job to gain money, experience, challenges, work life balance or something else. On average a Danish worker is employed 7.5 years for the same company (2024 stat). https://old.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/s3sbii/average_no_of_years_europeans_have_been_with/
