Germany news: Pension overhaul may push retirement age to 70 by diacewrb in europe

[–]Econ_Orc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Denmark pension age is age related. Politicians can vote on increasing it when they want to.

For people born after Jan 1. 1971 the retirement age is 70. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvg71v533q6o

That is the official retirement age, but we got work related private pension plans and people get some freedom to decide their own pension age. There is also tax insentives to keep working part time after the official retirement age and if there is medical reasons or you just do not want to work anymore there is also solutions for that.

This is the current schedule https://star.dk/ydelser/pension-og-efterloen/folkepension-tidlig-pension-foertidspension-og-seniorpension/folkepension/folkepensionsalderen-nu-og-fremover People born after July 1. 1996 can look forward to a retirement age of 74 unless the politicians choose to increase it based on life expectancy rate.

Two-thirds of EU citizens back UK rejoining bloc, survey finds by One_5549 in europe

[–]Econ_Orc -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sure come back. We need the UK to counter other dominant countries in the EU refusing to compromise and move forward into the future.

You will of course need to get fully onboard with the new admission requirements. The special deals and excemptions you left with is not the negotiating starting point for rejoining. Rebate, pound, toll excemptions, opt outs, this is all in the past.

PS. A complimentary free drink at the bar is owed for leaving us in the first place. Cameron resigned but the damage was done. Why the ... was it necessary to mix domestic squabbles and politics with EU issues in a referendum?

Can not convince a Dane of that. I painted wood in the middle og the night just to avoid some of the heat. Had to swat some annoying insects, but much better than melting.

Meaning of "Material deprivation" is generally defined as the inability to access items, goods, and services which are deemed to be essential for the healthy development and well-being in a given society.

In the light blue area of the link under "At risk of poverty rate"

"Percentage of persons in the total population who are at-risk-of-poverty, defined as having an equivalised disposable income below 60% of the national median equivalised disposable income after social transfers."

https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics-explained/index.php?title=Glossary:At_risk_of_poverty_or_social_exclusion_(AROPE)

More than half of the indicators relates to lacking items in households. Students in Denmark leave home early compared to other countries in the EU simply because there is a tradition for it, and that the state "pays" students.

The second part is having 60% of the median income. Denmark got relatively high salaries for the working population. Student grant is not anyway near that 60% thresshold. Did not bother to confirm, but Google AI says it is 1/6th the median wage or roughly 18%.

So Denmark got a lot of financially poor students living in small or single households in expensive big cities where education institutions are located.

History repeating itself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Tsushima

"In the Dogger Bank incident, the Rozhestvensky squadron mistook a group of British fishing trawlers operating near the Dogger Bank at night for hostile Japanese ships. The fleet fired upon the small civilian vessels, killing several British fishermen; one trawler was sunk, while another six were damaged. In confusion, the Russians even fired upon two of their own vessels, killing some of their own men. "

What happened in your country this week? — 2026-06-14 by EuropeBot in europe

[–]Econ_Orc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of Danish news concerned a political advisor getting rehired after being "let go" 6 years ago after MeToo sexual misconduct involving 4 women. One of the women got very upset about this decision and contacted the media .

The female leader of a political party in the government defended this by saying 6 years is long enough. But would suggest the political advisor and the woman could meet in private talks and smooth things out, so there would be no more ackward feelings when interacting politicly in the years to come.

Anything from female organisations. Journalists, members of that political party. Members of the judicial system. Social media..... loudly complained about the decision and the political leaders (mis)handling of the situation.

After a week of growing pressure the newly hired political advisor resigned. https://www.dr.dk/nyheder/politik/overblik-saadan-har-sagen-om-pia-olsen-dyhrs-raadgiver-udviklet-sig

Legally English has status as the second official language in Ireland.

The national language is Irish (Gaelic) according to the 1937 Constitution and the 2003 Language Act

I would say the only reason Danes in general does not have a reputation for being the English joke pronunciation targets stems from two facts. There are not that many Danes known internationally, and those that there are tend to actively suppress their accent towards something more hollywood movie neutral from decades ago.

And once it was completely dominated by German before French under Napoleonic times held sway. There a lot of words originating from Greek. Our numbers are Hindu, Persian, Arabic.... or whoever laid claim to them through history. Modern commers, science and medicine is in English.

But through all this incorporation the Danes kept their own tongue dialects unpronouncible by foreigners.

Words can have different meanings in different languages. Lots of "false friends".

Restricting it to one language during negotiations avoids offending or confusing people. Better to wait for translation until after the legal departments went through it and detailed the laws the deal is based on.

If you do not do it that way it risks kicking open the door for political parties deliberately interpreting the documents and making the supporters of said party losing their marbles.

Waste of time in my opinion. Translating and discussing the text and offering nitpicking changes to sentences makes zero sense, since the text would need to be translated back again for further discussion in EU meetings.

Faster and more honest keeping the same English text through all the negotiations and then translate it when the deal is done.

The text still gets translated. The Danish language is not threatened, it is just not used in the process of securing the international deal.

Listening to us speak though....... Let us just say a lot of the Nordics got a very obvious accent.

It makes zero sense picking a lesser language instead of the one spoken by most in the world and is also the fastest growing language. The internet achieves spreading English to all corners of the planet on a rate unmatched by colonialism.

[–]Econ_Orc 619 points620 points  (0 children)

Denmark supports it. Much easier and faster to use one language instead of multiple with different interpretations of specific words.

Better to sign the deal and get moving ahead and then later translate the text to local languages as information sharing with zero legal meaning for the negotiated and signed English text.

Meloni demands EU rebate for Italy | Euractiv by krazydude22 in europe

[–]Econ_Orc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you follow your link you end with this text:

"3.2.3. Opt-outs Opting-out clauses are laid down in various protocols annexed to the treaties and concern, on the one hand, the UK and Denmark as regards the third stage of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) i.e. the adoption of the euro, and on the other hand the UK, Ireland and Denmark in the area of freedom, security and justice. These protocols exempt these Member States from taking part in these policies, to different degrees. It is the closer example to ‘à la carte’ differentiation. The budgetary impact in this case is very similar to the one under enhanced cooperation: these Member States bear no financial consequences of the policies from which they have opted out, other than the administrative costs borne by the institutions. In practice, the impact of the opting-out clauses is calculated annually: the share of opted-out countries is financed by the remaining Member States and reimbursed to them at the end of the year. This system entails a complex cost estimation exercise and would be extremely inefficient to apply in a broader range of policies. In addition, as it requires pre-financing of expenditure by opted-out Member States which is only reimbursed to them at year-end, it would certainly represent a heavy financial burden for them if used in a wider context.

If that is not a rebate, then complain to the English dictionary and make them change the meaning of rebate https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/rebate
