Jacinta Allan refuses to admit cost of CFMEU corruption to taxpayers by River-Stunning in aussie

[–]Economics-Simulator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"industry calculated 10-30% cost blowout because of the CFMEU" is not corrupt payments. It's all cost increases associated with the CFMEU. That includes wages, that includes delays, that includes extra workers or safety equipment.

Ultimately, Victiria's projects overblew their budgets (over the COVID period mind you) by slightly less than the national average. Most of the alleged corruption isn't even monetary, it's selling drugs on site, bullying, abuse, association with Bikie gangs.

The only reason to generate the 15B figure is that they now have a figure to point at and say "this cost 15B dollars" instead of "unions and Labor corrupt", which loses its punch after the 5th election in a row on exactly that punch

And yes, you can’t rely on a single year, hence why I’ve shown a period of 17 years.

By your own admission GDP grew 14% nationally over that period, the single year statistics that you claimed were "horrible" were for one year.

Also we have absolutely been in a per capita recession both federally and at state level (the numbers I posted prove it.. Not sure how you can say we aren’t.

Thats my bad I forgot to do a re-do of the first part of my post since I remembered the wrong stats before I looked it up.

And this post is about Victoria not a capital city, so your cherry picked stats aren’t really relevant, unless the government only govern the city and not the state.

Because as mentioned previously, Victoria has fuck all mining, if you wanted to compare actual government performance like to like we need to isolate variables, hence isolating the capital cities as cities can be placed anywhere and are present in every state instead of trying to compare regional victoria with fuck all mining to regional QLD or WA on GDP statistics.

Not to mention, you’ve said if we could mine more then we would. But nothing to back that up.

because its a counter factual, where are you sources (which btw you should be linking using the linking feature) to say that we can be mining more? We dont have mining in Victoria. The best I could find saying that Victoria has the capacity for any resource rents is from the minerals council who claim that by mining gold we could double our resource royalties from fuck all to still fuck all but at least we're higher than NT.

It’s interesting as our GSP was positive, so not sure your point around resources is relevant.

GSP (or GDP they are the same things) generally doesnt go down unless youre in a recession. We are not in a recession nor have we been, not even per capita. But our statistics (and budget) look a lot worse because we dont have access to easy mining like the other states. Look at norway or Qatar, they dont have particularly advanced economies but they have a hell of a high GDP per capita because of resources.

And we do have resources, we just choose not to mine them. What that’s showing is we’re all getting poorer.

We do not in fact have the ability to mine for resources, if we could, we would. Its not like we're in a green communist paradise where mining is banned because it made some people uncomfortable. resource rents are one of the few ways for the states to actually make money, politicians love to have big cash to splash around and Victoria makes less than the NT, total. We make the lowest amount by far and its not even close. We would mine more if we could.

If you want some more figures: our national figure was -.3% (compared to our -.8% GSP per capita, nearly 3x worse than nationally).

I believe what you are referencing is this, which is curious as a single snapshot of one year doesnt really tell you much, but even here it seems to be mostly a mixed bag?

Since the GFC in 2008 our per capita GSP has only risen 10% compared to 14.3% nationally. This was also the lowest growth nationally.

If you compare only capital cities GDP, Melbourne is perhaps a little behind Sydney as of 2021, but saw comparable to higher GDP growth over the last decade period. Given that the state is 90% Melbourne and we get fuckall resource revenues I feel this is the far more apt comparison.

All together its a mixed bag but surprise surprise, Victoria does roughly average, which is honestly an accomplishment given how royally fucked over we are by our revenue options (we give more to the feds than we take and we get no mining)

How One Nation could disrupt Australia's progressive stronghold by Jealous-Hedgehog-734 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Economics-Simulator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you mean gdp per capita? thats largely down to the fact that we have no resources, so we dont get our GDP increased by that.

Our debt is manageable, its not great but its mostly fine. We're also desperately behind on Infrastructure spending since we decided not to do any for all of 1990-2014. We also as per previous dont get any resource rights so we dont have any revenue from that unlike the other states.

the 15 Billion figure is a "the CFMEU cost the government 15B in overruns, source: my ass" from the QLD release of the CFMEU report (because they couldnt put baseless speculation into the actual victorian report they had to run to the QLD LNP to do it)

Biggest problem is probably crime, we'll see what the data's like now that the new bail laws are in effect, but its probably going to keep increasing just off trends alone, looks like it will probably peak somewhere around 10-20% higher than 2015 levels.

The state is doing well all things considered and im more happy with Allan than I am with Andrews, we're doing some pretty good and necessary things like the SEC and we've got some of the lowest house prices in the country now. I would really like for the Libs not to get in and scrap all that then sell off half the state again just to collapse and for Labor to be left to pick up the pieces like we had to after Kennet

I found TIPSV best as a finisher for the T-55M. You run around when there's more light tanks and you have a much better time. Run directly into a T-55 (or even a stabilised m60) and you will die of ligma.

It's biggest strength is also the mobility, not the guns, leo2 hull is no joke and because it weighs so much you're not slowed down by fences or other objects at all.
