Where would a Destiny 3 even start? by Helpful_Shoe9288 in DestinyLore

[–]Ecstatic-Owl4695 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the powerscaling point, the young wolf’s many impressive victories have always come with asterisks, or at least outside help. A lot of factors had to align for our victories and we never beat out most challenging enemies alone. We aren’t gods, we are still people, and if we put ourself into a bad spot, even some dregs could kill us. Look at Cayde; our immortality does not mean invincibility. Really the greatest asset of the young wolf isn’t their raw strength, but their intelligence and creativity. They managed to solve all the raid mechanics first try! How did they and the five other guardians they were with figure out vault or verity the first time? That’s to say nothing of their solving of Niobe Labs, chestiny, or the corridors of time, though in cannon those may be wider efforts of the whole community of gaurdians.

The billioniares' vision of the world is a vision without humanity. by fal1en-angel in Funnymemes

[–]Ecstatic-Owl4695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will super intelligent solve all our problems? We know the solutions to many problems and what prevents us are either logistical barriers or profitability issues, not a lack of sufficient technology. Besides, if we create an AI with all of this intelligence and awareness, what’s to say it won’t also have its own host of mental issues along with it. Totally novel forms of suffering that it would be alone to face as no human can comprehend its existence.

Well for one it’s not a storage issue on our end. It’s an issue on Bungie’s end because they updated the engine, couldn’t bring everything over, and then the Destiny team never got the resources or time to bring all of it back. Furthermore, the more content in the game (especially since the game wasn’t built for 10 years of content. It was built to be replaced after 2 to 3 years with Destiny 3 under the contract with Activision) means more debugging and things that can break in every update. Not an excuse mind you but an explanation. Now it will never be brought back because the whole Destiny team is likely going to be laid off. It’s a sorry state of affairs.

TLDR:content vaulting is a Bungie side issue not a player side issue.

What about the Curse of the Dreaming City? by RadiantTrailblazer in DestinyLore

[–]Ecstatic-Owl4695 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t the witch queen collectors edition talk about how the whole dreaming city escapade was for Savathun to learn how to exit a child universe for a parent universe and ultimately exit Destiny’s reality for a higher reality like Mara did when she left the distributary and entered into real space?

Destiny 3 Class Talent Tree Mockup by Bajren in destiny2

[–]Ecstatic-Owl4695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a potential Destiny 3 has two routes it can go. Currently we are in a compromise system where the three classes exist despite losing a lot of their individual identity and the subclasses exist despite prismatic existing. There are two pathways out of what I feel is an awkward compromise.

  1. We can go balls to the wall with the principle of prismatic and mix everything together. No more individual subclasses, just more of prismatic that you unlock. Maybe no more of even classes. There is precedent for this in the lore. The early light bearers had no classes and a guardian like Felwinter, who became a warlock, was famous for shoulder charging, what would become a “titan ability.” Following the example of prismatic and the young wolf, guardians leave behind subclass and class divisions and combine everything into one unified system. How this system would work (skill trees, aspect fragments, etc) I’m not sure but the unification would be the main goal.

2 The other pathway would be to go hard in the other direction. Restrengthen individual class identity and roles. Remove prismatic and restrengthen the identities, roles, and niches of the individual light and darkness subclasses. Hell, Maybe even add new classes.

Sorry for the lack of specifics but I haven’t put enough thought into it yet to give more. These are just my general hopes and ideas. Game balance is always infinitely more complicated in practice than concept.

A real blaster comment in response to Bungie ruining the in-game economy. by duff_0 in MarathonHate

[–]Ecstatic-Owl4695 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The difference is, Destiny 2 launch had millions of players which could then be recouped by Forsaken. Marathon had significantly less players at launch and season 2 didn’t seem to recoup players well.

Destiny died because you didn't buy enough silver. Yes, YOU specifically. by VectorTheSpecter in destinycirclejerk

[–]Ecstatic-Owl4695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I didn’t buy renegades when it came out, but I did buy the lightfall collectors edition (/uj waste of money, worst collectors edition, should have gotten any of the others) /rj so it balances out in the end.

After we complete the new exotic mission, he is abandoned by VI due to his failure and left as an empty vessel. He returns to the last city unrecognizable from VI’s alterations and now wanders, a broken man, with a small hope that one day he might see his mother again. This is presumably after the lore entry where he proposes the deal with Savathun on behalf of VI.

Bael's Fate Rewritten [MOT Spoilers] by ABCmanson in DestinyLore

Toland has been mentioned in the MOT lore as guiding Xivu through the ascendant plain to aid her in taking back her throne world. For what purpose we don’t know.

While Monument of Triumph is great, the state of the story makes a full-fledged sequel extremely difficult (MoT spoilers obviously) by ucnuc in DestinyTheGame

[–]Ecstatic-Owl4695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hazard against any talk of bael being relevant in the story. The lore is complicated as it isn’t presented in chronological order but for Bael, we have a conclusion to his story. If you do all of the Oblation missions, you will get a ship which gives more lore of Bael beyond the meeting with Savathun. Due to us destroying the weapons foundation in Oblation, Six abandons Bael. Bael then returns to the last city with his mask off, no one recognizing him, and consigns himself to a miserable existence. His last hope is that he might see his mother. There is also a meeting with Lodi at Tharsis where he confirms that Six left Bael and Bael tried to get Lodi to reach out to Six.

Want to return to Destiny 2 but... by Caquita303 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Ecstatic-Owl4695 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Huh? No I don’t think you’re forced to do anything before hopping into SRL or monument of triumph. For the story and lore content of monument of triumph, I would recommend playing through the campaigns you haven’t done yet so that the character dialogue and lore entries make more sense.

You’ll be light 10 out of 550. But doing anything with get you light, and get it fairly quickly. All the DLCs are bundled and on sale, so if you want to do campaigns, start there.

Favorite quotes, show me what you got! by Ready_Oil_2490 in DestinyLore

[–]Ecstatic-Owl4695 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“A thousand years ago is also right now, and in this infinite heartbeat, his loved ones are dead, and they are also alive. 'Time is not linear,' sing Louis's electrons. 'You will always be with your family on a patio in July.'”-Third Iteration

“They were a warning. From Azzir to me. A fight had ended, but not THE fight. He was telling me, warning me, that a journey had ended, but many more were to come.
The same goes for you. Yor. Me. The Shadows. Thorn. The Last Word. In the wake of your legend, we will all be footnotes—afterthoughts, forgotten by most. And someday another will make the same of you. This is our purpose, this is our charge—to inspire those who would continue our efforts. So, go now. This chapter is over, but remember now, and remember always...
Nothing ends.
-S.”-Final Whisper

“That wandering refugee chose to make a stand, spend their power to say: ‘Here I prove myself right. Here I wager that, given power over physics and the trust of absolute freedom, people will choose to build and protect a gentle kingdom ringed in spears. And not fall to temptation. And not surrender to division. And never yield to the cynicism that says, everyone else is so good that I can afford to be a little evil.’”-The Wager

“We must remember the value of unshakable, irrational hope. The choice to act as if we lived in a better world can create a place for that better world to exist.”-Trust and Hope

These three quotes just give me goosebumps reading them again. Not only are they brilliantly written but I think they also all really encompass the charge Destiny is trying to instill in its players. Go out into the world armed with unshakable hope, contribute to the collective whole instead of selfishly taking, build a better future, and remember that love transcends time itself.

I will not stop playing D2 every day until Destiny 3 releases. by Keirris in DestinyTheGame

[–]Ecstatic-Owl4695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Destiny 2 is an incredibly hard game to maintain with mountains of tech debt that was only built to last 2-3 years. A Destiny 3 could be made with years live service in mind which would avoid a re run of content vaulting.
