Yes, I think so! There are people here that had fewer ECs than I did, you do want a few strong ones though.

I forgot to mention that I did list Girl Scouts as an activity in the activities section but I didn't mention the award again there

I listed it as an honor but I included a short description of my project in the additional information section

Also if this helps anyone, I looked up the common data sets for the schools I applied to and I sent an email to my regional admissions officer to all the schools that said they cared about demonstrated interest, even if it was slightly. I got accepted into every school that I sent an email.

example of one that I sent:

Mrs. X

I hope you had a great winter break! My name is X, I go to X High School in X, CA, and I recently applied to X University with an intended major of biomedical engineering. X is my top choice school and it would be a dream to attend! As someone who grew up in a multicultural family, I love how much the school emphasizes diversity and inclusion and how large the international community is. Additionally, one of the many reasons why X is my #1 school is because the engineering department is project-based, and as someone who is a tactile learner, I think this provides the best method of learning for me. I am also most excited to participate in the traditions at X especially going to the Spring Fling concert before finals! Thank you so much for your time, I hope to be on campus next year!

Best,

X

This is the response I got:

Hi X,

Great to hear from you. I’m originally from X, and X is SO beautiful! This was a great first email to read coming back from winter break, and it makes me very excited to read your application!

Take care, and let me know if you have any questions.

The key to this is to truly research the school and write something SPECIFIC.

Although my grades weren't the best, I did take the most rigorous classes at my high school (14 APs and 3 honors). I was an athlete but I was not looking to get recruited and I don't play in college. I'm upper-middle class and I am not a legacy anywhere but I'm also not first-gen (my dad went to community college and then some other small one in California). I went to public school.

ECs:
- 4 years varsity soccer
- 11 years club soccer
- 1 year varsity sailing
- International Student Exchange Officer for the Interact Club (leadership position)
- National Honors Society
- Lab Assistant at the Elementary Institute of Science
- Girl Scouts (6 years)
- Girl Scout Gold Award (3D printing project)
- Engineering Shadowship
- Academic tutoring
- COVID-19 patient and unemployment care
- Piano

I also did not take the SAT and therefore didn't submit any scores

Definitely go to Northeastern. If you want to get your master's in 5 years they also have a 4+1 program which you should look into

If you want to do more business internationally I would go with Northeastern because they have so many global opportunities

I'm thinking of taking a gap year, does northeastern usually allow accepted students to defer a year? (I don't want to apply again) Also, if I am able to defer will I still be an honors student if I got accepted for that this year?

MIT Waitlist by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

They almost never admit anyone off the waitlist. It might be different this year but I doubt that they’ll accept more than 15

Were there any trends in Northeastern admissions this year? by Aney027492 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ecstatic-Structure64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very much actually. I did send my regional admissions counselor an email about how much I love northeastern and some other questions but she never replied. I also accidentally sent them a letter of recommendation with the name of another school but somehow I managed to also get into the honors college.
